Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - Release Date Announced.

This better be a much longer game than Ratchet 2016 if they're charging $70.

R&C games are meant to be replayable for unlocks, cheats, and other bonuses, so none of them exceed 15 hours on a one-time main story playthrough. You'll have to settle with a 10-14 hour game at best unless you're a completionist. It's better to not count R&C 2016 anyway since it has cut content and planets missing that were in the original.

My head might explode when I see this game running at 4k/HDR on my CX OLED. I loved and Platinumed the remake so I can't wait for this one. Insomniac is fucking KILLING it.

So if the updated specifications of Ratchet and GT7 in that December trailer (compared to their reveal trailers) are supposed to eradicate any concerns of them being cross gen...does the updated specification in this *newly released* Ratchet trailer have the same effect?

But why are there concerns about it being cross-gen or not that need to be eradicated?

Unless the videos (including full level playthroughs) have been misreprentative, it looks like that. And it does things in combining levels together that we've never seen before in a game. (Whether that's "revolutionary" or not, that's a different matter; it's a great use of the SSD, but how often it uses rift-switching or how many games might actually use that same level-switching technique, we will see but it'll probably be limited.)

So, sure, Sony is a fink for its whole "We believe in generations" bait-and-switch, but the game should look and play like what we have seen. Are you not impressed by what you have seen? Have you seen past-gen games that can do what Rift Apart does? How is it going to hurt you if Insomniac or some port studio finds a way to get this game kicked down onto the PS4 when what they're making right now looks and plays like what we are seeing right now? The game will never be any more PS5 or any less PS5 than what you see of it running on a PS5.

I remember fondly when Insomniac hid the PS4 'port' (even though we know it was the other was around) until less than 2 months from it's release and a few days before PS5 pre orders went live.

So, three months after the PS5 product was announced in the first place, then?
The game was announced in June, confirmed as multiplatform in Sept, and released in November. Super-short timeline, not much time to get hyped up and then deflated that it was not a next-gen exclusive. And like you said, you couldn't buy either version (or the new console that it was built to promote) until after the full slate was revealed. Plus, given that the original announcement was primarily cutscene video, the same day you saw the first full gameplay sequence, a full 20 minutes of the game running on a PS5, that was the day when you learned of the PS4 version's existence.

So, how long could you have been mad about this?

People either saw the PS5 version and were impressed by it (Miles Morales is a notable jump above Spider-Man PS4, even in its PS4 version,) or you saw it and thought it looked like it could have run on a PS4 (which it does, in lesser respects.) Either way, you saw it as a PS5 product and got to judge it on its own merits, separate from the existence of a PS4 port-down.

(*I realize abacab peace-outed the thread, but I don't get what the problem is. It's funny and it's scummy what Sony pulled in its marketing speak, but the games are the games, and they speak for themselves.)

Sure, in that trailer from December 7th, it specifies Playstation 5 Exclusive for Ratchet.
But this latest trailer for Ratchet specified it as 'Playstation Exclusive.'

Or does that only work one way for you (and you're just going to ignore that actual change)?

I'm simply going by what I see NOW.

Insomniac Games have once again said today it is PS5 only.

Why is this €80 for the EU standard edition? I'll obviously get the $70 USA version which is €57 but wtf that's a rip off for the EU.

No. They said there is no PS4 version, which is true as the game has not released yet. They didn't say whether there is going to be one at some point in the future.
Hahahaha. Why are you rooting for a PS4 version so hard? You'll be able to upgrade your PS4 by release date ;)

Finally a release date, can't wait. Figured it was going to come in June/ July when returnal got pushed back

The only reason I own a PS5 so early in the generation was because of this game and Spiderman. After really no true Ratchet release last generation (remake was good but still a remake), I am so excited for what Rifts Apart appears to be. I love Insomniac, and their quality with Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet and Clank series, Spiderman, and Spyro is impressive.

Damn judgment for ps5,nier replicant, guilty gear strive, death loop, mass effect legendary edition,village,returnal,r-type final two lots of games for me until ratchet and clank come out.

2 AAA games in the span of 7 months Insomniac, not bad.
I said this before but they really are going to be one of standout 1P devs for Sony this gen. It's between Insomniac, Guerrilla and Sony Santa Monica as the Big 3 to keep an eye out for IMHO. Right after them I'd place Polyphony, Sucker Punch, Housemarque (if they are acquired), Bluepoint (same) and Japan Studio.

Naughty Dog I think will still be good but TLOU2 story-wise was not very good IMHO (for complicated reasons) and they have something of a troublesome workplace culture WRT burning out game animators in the industry and whatnot if the Schreir stuff is anything to go by (and yes he is kind of an annoying pansy but his investigative reports on ND, CDPR, 343i etc. seem relatively well-researched).

Personally where Naughty Dog falls this gen is in that 2nd tier for me somewhere in the mix but if Neil can reign in some of his tendencies and maybe get someone else to focus on writing the narrative so he can play a role more in line with what he did with the 1st TLOU or UC4 (and rebuild relations with game animators and others they burned through on TLOU2), then they can still obtain further greatness.

Lol what? Naughty Dog are the most successful and awarded developer of the last 15 years. They are Sony's crown jewel studio. There's a reason they're Sony's biggest studio and have the ICE team work out of there.

They shipped more PS4 games than any other Sony studio (except for San Diego with MLB) over the gen and receive the most critical praise and prestige. And their games sell very well too.

And Neil Druckmann wrote the stories of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4.

I thought you like supporting Sony for their generosity.
I do but I mean I buy most games on sale. Top class Sony exclusives I get day 1. Other games I'm not sure I'll like I'll get for $40 on sale like Spiderman or tsutshima. Games I'm not interested in initially like days gone ill get them $20 on sale.

I'll be buying all future games on my USA account which works out as €57 brand new which is good value imo.

Guaranteed.
My most anticipated console game of the year. GTS was somewhat of a let down with its focus on online racing. I just want to play Pokemon racing game and collect all the cars.

Please just bring back GT3/4 magic.

Gotta Catch 'Em All! 🚗 🏎️ 🚙 🚓 🚚 🛻 🚒 🚛 🚌 🚕 🚜 🚑

It costs almost 50% more and yet it's 15-30% longer, depending on how much of a completionist you are? That doesn't sound like value to me. This definitely should've been a $50 game. And that's coming from a fan who had no problem with the ps3 game pricing...it's just a different time.

You must be a fan of Ubisoft games if you think more hours is more value, Mario Odyssey (like many Nintendo games) is a 10-12 hours game yet you don't see anyone saying it's not worth full price.

Hmm price looks bad - previous Ratchet game on PS4 was bit cheaper than normal AAA so I kinda expected it will take same price as Sackboy.

Yeah that sucks. It looks like fun, but i would definately not pay 80 Euro for a "15? hour ssd demo". By the time i have a PS5 it will be down to 20 and i wouldn't pay more for this anyways,

I hope they make a bigger game compared to the old games now that they charge 80 euros, i don't give a damn about the replay factor, gimme a 20-25 hours game.

I didn't like the PS4 R&C that much so it's not going to be a day1 purchase, but I'll definitely pick it up later on to enjoy the graphics. :)

My gues is
april: returnal,
May: Re8 and deathloop
June: Ratchet
July: ff7: remake ps5
August: nothing
September: gran turismo 7
October: no major exclusives, but the usual big third party holiday games
November: horizon forbidden west
December: The Last of Us part 2 "remastered" (just an excuse to resell the game for 70 bucks with the mp that should have been in the ps4 version and some ps5 visual and performance modes)
January 22: No major exclusives
Feb 22: no major exclusives
March 22: no major exclusives
April 22: god of war next
.
.
.
.
Some time in holiday 2022: final fantasy xvi
Holiday 2022 will be Spiderman 2 PS5 Exclusive. Count on it.

The game looks amazing, I loved the last one, and I'll almost certainly get this when it as soon as it realises... but no Sony, I will not be pre-ordering

I remember when they said Spider wouldn't come to Xbox. I wonder if there are still xbox fans waiting for it.
