Rayman Legends: Leaked Wii-U Trailer

I don't get it and topic is 1000 pages...

Is it a platformer? And what's this thing about putting something on the screen? When a certain weight is applied it triggers something?

It's not that long, and your second question has been answered on pretty much every page.

Yes, it's a sequel to Rayman Origins, a platformer.

When you put certain figurines (the ones in the trailer were probably just for demonstration) on the controller, chips inside communicate with the controller via Near Field Communcation, NFC. This tells the game what the figure is and how to react to it.

Game looks good :O

Also, the NFC chip is on the screen? Couldn't they just hover the controller over the toy and NFC would have still worked?

Maybe they also required some kind of touch on the screen.
So you could hover over it, and just push the screen with your finger.
I'm sure you just remove the figure once the content has loaded.

Wow that trailer looked awesome!

However I still haven't played Rayman Origins since I wanna get it on Vita and I need a Vita to do that. (Which I plan to get late this year/early next year) so theres really nothing to tell me that I should get this one first since I would rather have it on a portable an-WAIT! YOU CAN PLAY THIS ON WIIPAD ONLY??? DAY ONE!!!!!

:P If it is a launch title I may just get it day one. (depends on other games, only got enough for 2-3 at launch.) Trailer looked really cool. I must say the way they did the figurines was...well...shocking. Didn't think it'll work like that.

I love waking up to leaks. Especially good leaks.

Also this confirms that Jeff Gerstmann will have to buy Wii U games out of principle.

I'm going to have to call you out on that. If Samaritan had been shown running on WiiU as a demonstration of what the hardware could do I don't think most sane people here would label it as anything other than impressive. I think that would actually renew peoples faith in the hardware.

Only because Epic made it and said that it's next-gen. I can guarantee that nothing short of Mark Rein coming on-stage at E3 saying that Wii U runs UE4 will convince GAF.

Also, to everyone, the controller doesn't even have a Nintendo or Wii U logo on it! It's obviously not final.

This means I finally should beat that last level of Origins... I love the game, but ugh... I just died there too many times.

So...skylanders-esque pokemon game reveal at E3? Was it known that the tablet had scanning tech before this?

Game looked nice, use of touch screen to move a ledge up didn't do anything for me.

The "scanning tech" is the NFC feature Nintendo talked about last year. Putting it on the screen is just a fancier way to do it.

But he wont, cause it's not going to, and doesn't, despite some seedy gaffers in "that thread" trying to act like they have inside info it does.

I'm not so sure the WiiU will be capable of UE4, though, if what they're saying holds any truth. That doesn't mean it won't be more powerful than current hardware, of course.

Or the game could force you to let the figurine on the screen, while pushing you to use the motion-tracking/gyro capabilities of the padlet to control something on the TV. You would have to manage the TV content + win an "equilibrium/balance" real life mini game.

Oh, and we need food NFC tagged

Imagine a western RPG where you'll have to put NFCed bottle of wine, chicken drumsticks, cakes, etc, on the screen, to regain energy.
Picture a situation when you're in a difficult stage with tons of enemies coming at you, your life is low, and you scream at your girlfriend for her to pass you all the real life food and scan it frenetically on the DRC like on a checkout machine in a supermarket, for you to survive.

The implementations are limitless !!

To anyone surprised about the "scanning tech": pay more attention. This was announced early this year, maybe even last year. It's called "NFC."

Basically, it's a chip that can detect proximity to another chip, and send data between them. Place one or a "receiver" in the tablet and one or a "sender" in the toy, and you have this "magic."

It's the same kind of thing used in Skylanders, but the possibilities are endless (for instance, you could use your phone (many phones have NFC now) or your credit card (many credit cards do as well) to make instant transactions).

I didn't say that it will, but it's good to know that you have inside info. :) So, how weak is it? Wii HD basically?

And do you want to take my avatar bet offer?

Edit: Actually, forget it. Letting you troll me is exactly what you you want. See you at E3. :)

I've worked for (and know many people who work for) agencies outsourced from gaming companies to produce trailers like this. In my experience, E3 trailers are produced and finalized 1-2 weeks and sometimes days before E3 - not well over a month. Unless this a "round 1" revision - and I don't think it is - I find it hard to believe this is a legitmate "leak." I think it's a plant.

HA HA what? First this game get stealth revealed through a questionnaire and now the leaked trailer leaks WiiU footage. What a cursed game. Guess my rabbids prediction was half right.

Next thing we know the game will accidentally include nuclear launch codes on the disk.

My goodness it looks like

it looks like a painting

LOL @ Altair Back to the Future

It would be good if all future pre-order bonus statues had special features, but it would still make me concerned for those not choosing to buy the statues

So, this game will be multiplatform, right?

Yes. And although it's an absolutely gorgeous game that rivals anything, it requires almost no horsepower to run. Running Origins on PC at 1080P/60fps reveals CPU/GPU utilization that's less than a typical flash application. I've yet to see a current gen game that requires less power. Memory aside, I'm absolutely convinced it could have run 1080p/60fps on an XBOX without issues. The engine is just that good.

That looked visually amazing. Although I own Rayman Legends for Wii and Vita, I still haven't played it. How does this game stack up graphically to that one? Also the Skylanders thingy seems pretty neat, specially because you don't need those portals.
Rayman Legends is the sequel of Rayman "Origins" that you said you have for Wii/Vita. Meaning, you don't have this game yet, not a port...

Also, looks really cool!

So this is a completely new game, different from Origins? Awesome. Wii U looking more like a day one lately. Hope this makes launch.
