Reggie on CNN: "3rd-party games like CoD look dramatically better on our system"

I actually wouldn't mind the lie if he didn't use the word dramatically

Nintendo better already start mapping out a whole plan for what to counter with on the lack of horsepower once the PS4 and 360-2 arrive

never trust PR people. ever.

Unless the 720 and PS4 are actually a 360 and PS3 with new controllers, then yes, it's a foregone conclusion. The Wii U won't be able to compete.

false - depends on how sales are, and what kind've work devs would need to put it for the version of UE4 the WU supports. we know there's a gap, we don't know what the playing field looks like, and wont realistically for well over a year from now, if not more.

ITT: Nobody knows what the fuck the word next-gen really means anymore.

it's not hard; WU is next gen, everyone not getting that prolly didn't call the Wii next gen with PS3 & 360, making them consistently wrong and not worth hearing

man you know Nintendo PR for the N64 era ended ages ago, it's OK to admit that it was just a fraud statement :P

I always cringe when people say Shadow of the Empire is a good game. I've rarely played a game that holds up worse than that junk. Rogue Squadron can blow me too, shit game.

The other two are good, but the point I am making is that N64 was a wasteland. This is indisputable basically. PSOne got a trillion third party games that people now consider classics, N64 had so few that it was a constant embarrassment for Nintendo.

1) we weren't talking about good games we were talking about 3rd party support in general and shadows is an example of a major 3rd party release

2) you can cringe all you want the game has a pretty sizable fanbase

3) rogue squadron is a classic. You have no idea what your talking about

Maybe he was told it was this way.

We know the Wii U doesn't destroy the 360 power but we will most likely see improvements in the future, 3D Mario, Zelda, Retro's game will probably be the first to show off the Wii U's full power.

The rumors/leaks for PS4/720 suggest

PS4:
1.6-8 Tflops
A10 APU series
4GB

Xbox 3:
1.2 Tflops
8GB

Among other things, but statements from insider on GAF suggests the Wii U to have a 620GLOP

Wii U:
Rumored on GAF: 620 GFLOP
Rumored on GAF: E6760 and I think 4870
2GB

Things could of changed for PS4/720 for sure though.
That impossible for the wiiu. 400 gflop is the most.

Ok, so then... you're 100% wrong. It's a revisionist history to claim that N64 didn't have wasteland thirty party support. Everyone on Earth knows this is true. I don't even know why you're trying to debate about it :P

Seriously this is the most settled question in the history of videogame history discussions!

2) you can cringe all you want the game has a pretty sizable fanbase

popularity equals quality, as we all know! Shadow of the Empire's gameplay holds up about as well as dipping ones penis into acid.

3) rogue squadron is a classic. You have no idea what your talking about

man the standard for "classic" is really getting lowered these days. Shit Chameleon 64 is a classic too!

If games on the 720 and the PS4 aren't dramatically better looking than on the WiiU, then MS and Sony have done fucked up. I just can't even entertain the possibility.

Taking the worst ps4/xbox8 rumors vs best positive wii u rumors... Looks legit.

they're gonna be, im saying the gap shoulndt be where the WU ends up with Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop, but if it does, then that's how it goes & they'll have the Wii on their hands again. I'm saying i don't think it's set it stone yet, but year 3 of the new cycle should totally tell the story.

I think the game looks fantastic on both my Panasonic 65ST50 and on the pad itself. Do the graphics equal what gets output of my GTX680? No.

The game plays great though!

The WiiU fits into my life perfectly right now. With limited gaming time, a one year old daughter, and a wife that likes to rock the HGTV.

So what if the game is slightly slower than the other versions. The WiiU actually gives me the opportunity to play the damn thing over fighting for the TV. I think Treyarch did a great job with this version.

Just my 2 cents.

Why is it impossible?

Because there is not enough power in the system. R700 at 40nm is 12 gflops per watt at best. To get 600 you need at least 50watts.

The wiiu uses 34 watts and that includes everything. Using 100% for just gpu is 396 gflops.

More likely around 25 watts for gpu is 300 gflops.

The Vita has all those too minus the powerful GPU( not sure how weak it is compared) and thats never touching the PS3/360

Vita's gpu is powerful by mobile standards (uses power vr tech like iDevices). We get shit like sub native resolutions on the Vita because the developers try to match the same effects they use in console games.

All you have to say about the n64 3rd party support,

Dream Team -_- 'Nuff said

I don't think it'll be that easy this time. Motion controls was almost all new back then, now we have tech we're all pretty much used to. I think Nintendo will just have to bet on their first and second party offerings and work their asses on making as much and as good games as possible

Do you lack the capacity to understand those funny little specks on your screen that I've typed in on my keyboard or what?

I said that Yoshida and Iwata are better persons to interview because they aren't in PR. They actually want to answer questions instead of selling a corporate image.
Interviewing any PR speaksperson is about as usefull as just repost the pamphlet and press releases. It adds a "human" face to a CI.

And why a more informed gamer of today would even take anything in press releases at face value is beyond me honestly. It's a circus that is meticulously designed to push a biased agenda (imagine that).

This is why you clarify. Which you've done enough to my satisfaction. Your initial statement was not really backed by the words.

Now, my vision doesn't deceive me. Be clear from the get go so I don't have to bait you for clarity.

LOL, talk about a useless interview. I have a feeling that comment will come back to bite him in the ass further down the road with another interview......

I'd love to see Reggie drop his puppet act and tell up what he really thinks of the Wii U. Also, the sales for this month are gonna be weak. Calling it now.

I really hope they come out with some cool stuff. Seeing that $299 deal in AU, I'm all over it. I should know what to expect - Nintendo stuff and not much more - but we'll see I guess.

Absolutely correct. I also only owned a N64 and I have to admit some of my best gaming memories from that era are from when I borrowed a friends PSX and realised what I was missing out on. Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII were a revelation and I haven't gone single platform since.

Oh I still went Nintendo-exclusive up until I bought a PS2 in 2005, so even during the Gamecube era I had to squeeze every drop of fun out of 3rd party hidden gems like Lost Kingdoms.

These conversations are all so odd to be having after all the incredible, defensive fervor about what a possible beast this machine could be. Personally, always figured it would be low key, like 360+, enough extra horse power to hit full 720p, anti aliasing and more steady framerates where the others could not., playing conservatively and expecting less than another Wii (in the PS2/Xbox pool) when we were being told it was going to be targeting enthusiast players more.

I wonder if anyone in the media will have enough balls to actually start calling some of these outright fabrications out in interviews and the such, probably not!

In the end, I never expected to buy one for anything other than the ol' Nintendo franchise refreshes, so I'm not crushed or anything, but it's pretty shitty. My biggest annoyance remains the faults with the controller though... that fucking battery especially.

With how lunatic conservative Nintendo is, I wonder just how many games, especially new ones, we'll see from them that push this slightly reduced hardware in any meaningful way, anyhow. We certainly saw very little of this nature on the Wii and I doubt the budget and art hikes that'd go into creating vibrant worlds, let alone ones with new franchises, will be something they'll be very hot on.

Company feels like it's at an impasse, to me, like their goal seems to be to just awkwardly attempt to clone the Wii, hope for the best and just sit on their money instead of doing anything with it.

Sadly in this thread a post like this will get ignored. This is really what is important right now, that people are actually enjoying the games on the system currently.

As has been stated previously -the PS3 had some bottlenecks and was a pain to develop for but ended up producing the most consistently high quality graphics from its exclusive titles on consoles. Only time will tell.

Can this be the definitive moment where we all collectively stop listening to this terrible windbag?
The internet's insistence on celebritizing him is a crime against humanity. It's becoming a Michael Pachter situation, where we only listen to him so we can point and laugh.

The thread is about Reggie's interview, not about the WiiU's potential, or how fun it is.

Not a fan of lying. What's more, I don't think it's remotely necessary to lie in order to get people to buy the system. Just say the game is there, mention some of the online implementation, the fact that it supports the Wii U screen and even the Wii Remote, etc.

I've seen the comparisions on lensoftruth.com and I do feel BLOPS2 looks better on Wii U (than ps360), if only marginally. GAF being GAF. Course this is just in screenshot compares, I don't play BLOPS2 and have no idea what the fps or other differences are.

But it's not R700 and it's likely not 40nm. I guess you're still choosing to ignore everything in the WUSTs.

BTW: I'm not saying it's 600GFlops either.

In what way does BLOPS2 look better on Wii U than 360? I see absolutely nothing to suggest it looks better...

Can you imagine if he was honest?

"Yeah, our 2012 hardware makes CoD look slightly worse, but we think you'll buy it anyway cause we have a controller that you can play for about 2-3 hours before recharging it, but we're going to sell you a better battery next year, also MARIO is coming, so kiss all my asses." would be something.

The WUSTs have many good reasons for being ignored... Power7? ;)

heh, you haven't played Black Ops 2 but say it's just "GAF being GAF".

OK.

Again I'm not agreeing with reggie that it is a dramatic difference, but color accuracy looks better and things look a bit clearer to me than both ps3 and 360

I don't play FPS, but I still have eyes.

FWIW: I prefer Nintendo over the other two companies, but defending this is ridiculous. No one should be doing that. So please stop doing that, if only to keep people from constantly resorting to the 'Nintendo defense force' shit that lessens anyone posting any comment remotely positive about the company.

The thing that got me while watching the interview, was that the right questions were being asked, but Reggie either outright lied or skirted around the questions. Maybe he's gearing up for a senatorial race. He'd fit right in with all the other politicians.
