Heh, again... lying =/= upselling. It's one thing to say "This product is absolutely fantastic! Great buy!". Saying, "...this looks dramatically better on our system" is just lying. Many have pointed out that sometimes it isn't even on par.
Never said it was. If anything, you are making a bigger deal about how posters are reacting to this than how people in this thread are actually reacting to what Reggie said.
That would have been a bigger lie. Lies come in all different sizes.
Again, there's a difference between "hyping" and straight out saying false information. If you don't care then why are you even in this thread?

2.) Ranting? Bro please. Someone having a different opinion and take on the situation from the (sadly) common groupthink in this thread does not equate ranting. The reason I'm stating my piece is because I expect that level of complaining and bickering to exist on gamefaqs and possibly IGN. Not here. Come on now. It's not even remotely a controversy. The "Reggie needs to be fired" posts are so over the top it's ridiculous. I'm stating my piece because I think GAF is much better than that.
Well the topic is here so he would discuss it here. Or is it more practical if he had gone to some news site and made a topic like "NeoGAF arguing over Reggie, here's why that's dumb"?

I don't recall Reggie calling out say....EA in their interview stating that whatever engine they use in their games is "horrible" or anything to that effect. He's promoting his company's products. Not someone elses's.

I'm not pointing fingers or anything by this but just generally curious. Do you have a Wii U?
So because he is the COO it's his job to sell products by disseminating misinformation because in business it is okay to do so because you are selling your products. I mean, he did categorically state that under side by side comparison CoD looks "dramatically" better.
Heck if he had said that the tablet allows for a more unique experience thereby making it a better version then it wouldn't have been a lie or even a truth being stretched. Because that is up-selling the product by outlining relevant features that separate and elevate one version above another.
Is the statement (and/or one similar to), "The version of the game on the Wii U has unique features not found on any other current consoles that thus make our version feel more fresh in multiple ways...", that out of the blue or hard to come up with on the fly?

Why are people totally lost? The point is, he specifically compared COD with the other versions, calling it dramatically better graphically when it clearly isn't. If he had generalized the quality of Wii U 3rd party ports, then whatever; that can be spinned, and heck it might even become true down the line, but he drew a line in the sand with COD.

Reggie has always been annoying and deceptive. He really knows how to shine a turd and should frustrate anyone that has a minimal amount of knowledge about the video game industry.

It was confirmed at 40nm. Wust thread is a complete joke.
Even moving to 28nm doesn't change performance for watts that much anyway.
What I'm saying is that companies will exaggerate and hype up their companies products all the time....and it's really not a huge deal. Apple did so with the iPhone 5 when they touted their display as "the most advanced display" despite the Nokia Lumia arguably having a better display. It's standard upselling to hype up your products. Should Tim Cook be "fired" because of that.
NOT saying that's what you stated, just pointing out some of the extremism in this thread in response to an innocuous comment on a very quick CNN interview.

I actually think I understand where he was coming from with that remark and I actually agree. Unfortunately I think he was frustrated and he really shouldn't have said that to the press. Not a smart move on his part there.

Edit: Also, I'm not saying that it's wrong to jump on Reggie's back. No defense or anything. He should get put through the shredder for this, just as Sony has been put through the shredder before.

There are plenty of people debating this issue in a rational manner, yet you decide to focus on the extreme posts, and condemn all of GAF for it. I've been around gaming for a long time; longer than a good percentage of GAF I would reckon, and I know how things work. Doesn't mean that these companies can't be called on shit; I praise them when they do the right thing, and let them have it when they do the wrong thing. Nothing wrong with that.

I just think saying COD Blops 2 looks "dramatically" better on Wii U is a misrepresentation of the truth. I have a feeling if he had worded it differently like, "Wii U has the definitive version of the game," no one would have batted an eyelash.

I'm totally stunned that people think him going on CNN and lying is ok to do. All the games that are on multiple systems seem to perform better on the other systems than the WiiU for any objective comparison.

Yeah. It's not his job to lie, it's to spin. He could have spun it a different way to make the Wii U versions sound better without resorting to outright falsehoods.

Sony got called out on their bullshit, and rightly so. Still even though it was stupidly over the top "Toy Story quality graphics" is a lot harder to objectively judge than a direct comparison of the same game on multiple systems. This is easy to jump on because comparisons that fly directly in the face of what he's said were only released a few days ago!
But don't worry... I'm sure we will catch out Microsoft and Sony lying as well soon enough. But that will be tomorrow, and not today. For now, everyone should point and laugh at Reggie for saying something stupid.

My point exactly. It's not a big deal, but it's a topic that was put up for debate, so why is it wrong to criticize Reggie for it? There was no outcry of support for Sony when they were "upselling" their product; or is it because Sony is "evil" and Nintendo are the "good guys"?
What? Why is that harder to objectively judge? It objectively wasn't true. There really isn't any gray area there.

Something weasely like "if we put all the PS2s power into a single model, we could fully render one of the characters from Toy Story". You know, stuff like that.
It's clearly a lie, but like the "Avatar quality graphics" for 720/PS4 it's not as easy to do a quick and direct comparison.
I think I should clarify that Sony lied through their teeth in both the lead up to the PS2 launch and the PS3 launch. It stank of BS then and it still stinks now. It'll be interesting to see how Microsoft and Sony go about it in the lead up to next gen...

Yeah, when I said that, I wasn't comparing what Sony said in the past to what Reggie said in the CNN clip.
I was just replying to him since he said it was "nothing but spin" when (again) there's a difference between spinning something to make it sound better and actually telling a straight up lie.
Those examples you stated from Sony were straight up lies.
Sony never said the PS2 would deliver Toy Story graphics, (though they did say movie quality). Thats one impressively long running gaming myth. MS directly said the Xbox would, but its never attributed to them. Sony told many a lie at E3 2005, but I think if you have to compare to another companies lies and PR blunders to try and excuse this, its probably already damning evidence that Reggie goofed.
