Remember Me - Review Thread

If we all made our choices based on the experiences of others we wouldn't be living our own lives. Sure game reviews are great but many are full of hyperbole and brown nosing also. See "Citizen Kane of gaming."

It seems to be one of those games that have visionary ideas that are torn down by mediocre execution. But in a few years when every games has these ideas the small group of people who played the game will go all "Remember Me had this first".

The name of the game could't be more fitting though :P

I just want to know if it is filled with bugs. I don't trust reviewers to sell the fun factor on a game like this. I don't mind trying out experimental mechanics but I would mind a product with unresponsive gameplay and the inability to progress through stages.

I probably won't be able to update the OP until tomorrow afternoon (GMT), unless we start getting some more reviews in the next few hours. Bear with me, guys.

Cult classic one day but forgettable today.
I'm going to assume that IGN believes that gaming is going straight into the shitter; the game may not be good right now but we'll be extremely grateful for it after all the garbage that is about to come out.
It's like playing Doom 3; I didn't really like it when it was released, but it's certainly a lot better than much of the shit we're getting now.

At least, this is the only logical reason I can think of for saying something so dumb in a review.

Obligatory "dafuq at IGN review" comment. I wonder if they mean most people will forget about it, what with E3 and The Last of Us coming next week, but once it's $30-ish and/or there's not much else, more people will look into it. Still a confusing statement.

I'm trying to decide if I want to get this game or not. I like the idea of the Memory Remix parts, as they kind of give a Ghost Trick vibe, which is a good thing, but everything else looks.....okay, I guess. I think this is one I'll pick up once the game is a bit cheaper & I'm not swamped with other stuff.

No it was pretty much bug free for me.

Haha at the IGN review, that literally reads like a highschool paper. Scoring is somewhat useless in my eyes, I wish my publication wouldn't do it but at the same time I can see how some people prefer it with the ability to quickly glance and gain a "summary".

I'll still be grabbing this title though, it intrigued me when I first read about it and sounds like it will offer a good amount of fun.

If the game released at a $30-35 price point, I think it could find some success. Anyone watching the trailers knew this was going to be a somewhat B release. Which there's absolutely nothing wrong with and I think there's a place for these types of games that don't hit it completely out of the park but do some thing right and can find an audience.

It's too bad that $60 barrier makes it really hard to find that audience right out of the gate.

So it turns out most of the people in this thread don't know what a cult classic is. Being a cult classic does not imply greatness, only that it has a dedicated fanbase, an elaborate subculture that engage in repeated play troughs, quoting dialogue, ect. Most of them under the belief that it's so bad, it's good (see God Hand :-p ).

Haven't witnessed one bug so far.

Since everyone is shitting themselves over that one dumb quote, I'll quote some of the IGN review which isn't really weird/dumb:

When you’re not fighting, you’re climbing – up drain pipes, across window ledges, and between rooftops – but none of this traversal is remotely exciting. There’s no suspense. Nothing breaks, nothing gives way, and Nilin makes every jump. Even if you’ve slightly misjudged the distance, don’t worry: you’ll be pulled, almost magnetically, towards your destination

So there's platforming that's all fluff, typical nowadays.

What nuance there is to combat comes from entering the Combo Lab, a place where you can freely customise your attacks with effects that inflict damage, regenerate health, or cool down one of your more powerful attacks. If, say, you’re extremely low on health, it’s useful to jump into the Combo Lab and quickly construct an attack entirely composed of "Regen Pressens" to restore part of your health with every attack. This system does make the relentless combat situations a tad more interesting, as you actually have to tinker with your combos when facing particular types enemies early on. But once I unlocked enough Pressens to dedicate a combo to each perk, I pretty much forgot about visiting the Combo Lab ever again.

Challenge is thrown out the window pretty quickly, in a game where combat is the majority of gameplay.

From these assertions/observations, it sounds like it deserves the score it got.

IGN....

I thought the game would end up in the 7's. It would be nice if they had a demo up for it.

I've had one weird bug in about six hours. Nilin's head got stuck constantly facing the same direction in a cutscene which caused her neck to contort in weird, uncomfortable, and sort of hilarious ways. Funny and a temporarily ruined the atmosphere, but I wouldn't consider it damaging.

Watched the PSM UK video review and thought it looked like the reviewer just sucked at the game rather than the combat being bad.
These reviews are what I expect though.

On another note, I find it funny how a lot of GAF preaches how worthless games journalism and video game reviews are, yet will let these same things inform them of their purchases.

Mitch Dyer, the reviewer for IGN, is pretty infamous for having his reviews being on the low end of the spectrum. He gave the last Ninja Gaiden a 3 or something ridiculous. I don't trust his opinion on anything.

That all being said ill probably pick this up on a summer Steam sale.

Was never getting this even if the reviews were AAA. Not surprised to see the gamei sg ettign lousy reviews though. IT looked mediocre from the start.

Wasn't reviewed by Mitch.

Same here. I'm not a fan of that dude at all.

The Memory Remixes and setting seemed so cool to me. It's too bad that the majority of the game is fighting and there's little to no exploration.

This was reviewed by Daniel Krupa.

That's perfectly deserved. Ninja Gaiden 3 was a borderline suicide concerning the Ninja Gaiden series, even the new updated one is terrible.

Still want to play it for the art and music. Doesn't bother me that the gameplay maybe poor. I just want to see more of the Neo-Paris.
