Only once did I try to have a discussion about this over there, because where I'm from the police is very well respected too. In fact, saying cops are bastards would probably warrant you a punch in the face. Unfortunately it seemed that because the USA police force has racism issues, literally every police officer in the entire world is a racist bastard. In fact, at this point it's a-okay to say someone's relative is dogshit when they're a cop.

You're literally called out when you feel that not every cop in the world is a racist asshole.

What kind of bubble do you live in when you think every cop is a bastard anyway? Surely only people who never had to call upon the cops for help live inside this dream world where the cops are out to get you.

Like I get they don't want porn being posted or blatant sexist posts but does every thread have to be super serious? If someone doesn't like a thread, then they can ignore it.

But for many of era's most unhappy users, that's not enough. Even if they only saw a thread for 2 seconds before blocking it, that was a great injsutice and punishment MUST be dealt.

It will feel like a milestone if/when this thread passes onto the Undying Lands. Like Frodo on the ship, sailing out of the harbor. Some of us teary-eyed on the shore to see it off one last time.

I think a case can be made that this thread has run its course considering we’re not great at keeping it civil and not making it personal.

But for me personally it might also be that after posting in this thread for months and then stepping mostly away, my annoyance with Era has been reduced to apathy. They’re gonna do what they’re gonna do and nobody can change that.

Plus I don’t think anyone can question that some people might get a bit too angry with Era. So with the new kinder and more level headed political forum, does this thread stick out even more?

I’m not really advocating one way or another but we’ve all read between the lines and have a general idea what will happen.

The vast majority of posts is simply posting theirs and laughing about it. (mostly abusive rantings against users)

There is an 'ignore thread' function that could be used.

Anyone who steps over the mark does get slapped down from what I have seen.

Gonna be talked about anyway, best kept in one place IMHO. Otherwise will bleed into other threads and people may be banned. (A guess)

No media will challenge the fact that saying you think it’s ok to discuss a giant vampire woman’s tits is somehow a bannable sin. Or that enjoying a Harry Potter game requires you to be acutely aware of debates around child HRT.

People may come think that it is the new normal, unless they see some reasonably normal people elsewhere pointing out it’s not.

Of course when you see abuse of power on display over there it's natural to react harshly. And when you see the serious dysfunction on display it's natural to comment on it. I'm just not fond of when the environment leads to resentment boiling over toward identity groups, like with one of our recently banned users increasingly hating trans people in general, or following users' personal lives with ongoing screenshots because they're a little too open with their lives in an illusory safe space open to the public.

Highlighting the lunacy of their moderation actions is reasonable. And when refugees stop over, this thread is a good way to decompress from all the groupthink pressure a lot of people are under there 24/7. We've picked up some cool people that way. The rest of it we can do without. Nuking this thread is under consideration for those reasons.

Yeah. I tried to jump in and steer the discussion away from hating on her, deescalate, but there were some pretty overboard comments from people. We'll be more proactive in handling threads like that going forward.
