Resident Evil 4 HD Project - Progress Thread

It's been years since i played RE 4 but i vividly remember this hole section and sequence. The main reason was how detailed this area looked.

There is a big pallet of textures in display here, the whole effect is akin to what id wanted to do with it's Rage engine and the mega texture technology. This probably was one of the more demanding areas for the project.

The other rooms that to me looked at the top of the 6th generation in this game are the one where Saddler's throne is and the hallway with flowing curtains and the sea of broken glass all over the floor.

If i find some pictures i' ll put them up here.

Man that original deer mount thing is hilarious. Amazing work. This has been the longest time I've gone without playing Re4 only because I'm going to wait till I can play it with this glorious mod.

Where can I throw money at this? Also, what's Capcom's opinion on this? Or have they even said anything on it?

They've got a donate button on their homepage. Capcom hasn't directly acknowledged the mod as far as I know, but they generally have a hands-off policy with this kind of stuff. They won't do anything about it as long as its free. It may even be remotely plausible that if fans really love the finished mod and make some noise it could be officially added to the game (not likely, but it should be done).

I haven't checked in on this in a while and I'm simply amazed every time I do. If there was ever a game that deserved this kind of treatment it is RE4. Thank you guys for all the time you must have invested into this already. The bar for HD textures has been raised to a ridiculous level with this project.

Man, I'm continually impressed, if developers and publishers put in half the amount of effort you guys are putting in, we would have some incredible remastered games.

Absolutely amazing work being done here, kudos to everyone involved :) Hoping to donate a bit to the project when I get paid next.

Phenomenal work as always. The incredible effort you've expended to make to stick to the original vision by painstakingly recreating the sourced textures is remarkable and so often the downfall of otherwise solid modding efforts. The urge to not insert your own vision must be hard to suppress but the faithfulness you've shown makes it a no-brainer to even the pickiest fans.

You guys are a treasure to the modding scene and RE4 totally is a deserving title for your skills.

At this point I'm completely overwhelmed by all the amazing work that I lack for words to properly describe the extent of my amazement. Or maybe I just did.

I have some small feedback regarding the previous update:

Shouldn't the lever handles be round? They were probably hexagonal originally in order to make them look round.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, that's definitely on my list of things to adjust for that room. :-)

I'm actually playing resident evil 4 for the very first time. PS2 version. so seeing these HD shots and awesome work has been incredible.

Will this project work with texture packs on a PS2 emulator by any chance?

Probably not, but... I had to ask!

Still amazing.

Sure Capcom will use any excuse to sell a classic Resident Evil game again and again. Would be sweet if they got in contact one day and offered the team good money for that mod and release for all platforms.

The work you've done on this is amazing. Capcom really should pay your for your work, and add it as an official upgrade to the game.

Is the lion supposed to be looking forward? Your work looks like it's starting towards Leon.

I'd pay for the texture pack. At least 15 or 20 bucks.

There's so much detail to see now where there were only blotches before... I get the feeling that I'll be constantly stopping to look at things that never would have stood out in the original game. This is almost going to feel like a remake along the lines of Ocarina of Time 3D rather than just a texture mod. Everything will seem new and it'll be fun to explore it all over again. Great work.

Yeah, there's a difference there that's noticeable at that angle. Albert adjusted the eye based on that feedback (others mentioned it on the site as well. :))

That's exactly my hope! Another way I think about it is that it should feel like getting glasses or contact lenses after years of blurry vision. :)

Your attention to detail, and willingness to include feedback is incredible. I'm very much looking forward to trying this.

Looks amazing! When's this expected to be completed? I think that's when I'll fix my gaming PC. I'd like to show RE4 to a non-gaming friend who I'm bring up to speed on games, and I'd like to do it using this mod.

Funny reading posts from 2 years ago saying you won't keep this up for 2 years. Good work man, really impressive, and screw anyone who said you wouldn't go anywhere with this.

In addition to the usual compliments about how great the texture work is I think Cris and Albert deserve praise for working on such a rapid schedule. Some fan mods take eons and possibly never even come out (I've been waiting for AM2R for how many years...). It's nice to see a near professional level of commitment to the mod work.

I'm hoping that there's a bad-assed selection of Steam controller configs by the time this is done. Right now the top one has no gyro-option.... which is a no-go.

To be fair I think the initial responses were reasonable in the sense that it was basically some random guy saying "I'm gonna do this thing that's going to take a long time." If I were anyone else, I would probably have had a similar reaction. :)

It'd be cool if Capcom swooped in and offered a fat stash of Bison Bucks to buy this mod (once complete) and incorporate it into an official current-gen remaster.

Really looking forward to playing it for the first time with these vastly improved textures. Thanks for working on improving it crisdecuba!

I really really really wish I could download this mod, but alas, RE 4 will not launch on my computer. It's a very widespread issue from what I understand.

Are there any ENBs for RE4? Is it possible?

Edit: I googled and see there are some but none match the care Cris and Albert give this project. I'm looking for some other stellar visual mods to pair with this when we eventually have it. This texture mods is the reason for the replay but I kind of want to go all out. The animations and mechanics are already so good, with these textures, some improved shaders (or whatever), and the right resolution and framerate, RE4 would feel remarkably newer than a 11 year old game.
