Resident Evil 6: Bro-Splosion Announced, Nov 20 PS3/360, PC Later, PR/Trailer In OP

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
watched trailer, felt nothing. Were it not the return of characters like Chris and Leon, I feel like almost all games are beginning to blur into one. Is this me being jaded or just the games industry becoming more and more creatively bankrupt.

It just seems to me like they have tried to please everyone.

"Do you think fans will enjoy playing as Leon again?"

"Hmmm lets just put every Resident Evil character in there just to make sure"

"How do you think we can improve the gameplay mechanics?"

"Lets just copy every single action game that has been released in the past 6 years"

"Oh, and lets add co-op again just in case"

Because that's not what I want from a Resident Evil game. I mean, if it does that stuff well, great! But when it opened up with zombies in a ruined city, it felt like a kick in the teeth when Chris (basically) roadie ran and went into cover.

Yeah, look what happened to him after he went into cover.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Really? Oh well. I mean I found this trailer entertaining and heck, I would buy it. I thought that Capcom would do away with the cover based shootouts. I was wrong.

Yeah. I'm done with plodding atmospheric RE games. RE4 buried that shit with its fantastic gameplay.

And I played RE5 entirely in co-op, so I enjoyed that quite a bit.

I just hope RE6 has co-op in the story, so I can play with my roommate.

No, Leon and Ada are the best characters with everybody else following after and Chris being at the absolute bottom.

It is a complete mystery to me as to how anyone likes Ada at all. Oh wait, she's a scantily clad woman. I cracked the case.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Yeah... no. Anyone who actually thinks this a worse direction than going back to Resident Evil 1 tank controls, mansion exploration, etc is super imposing their personal opinion.

I think people are talking about the HelicopterEXPLOSIONS...kung-fuZombiePresident style more than the controls. The Resi games under Mikami saved that stuff for the endgame, they didn't shove it in your face right from the start.

This...is not Resident Evil. It feels more like a tie-in with the Paul WS Anderson movies. I'll remain curious because it has Leon in it (whose voice seems to have changed for the worse) but I expect it to be a million miles away from Mikami's vision for the franchise.

Whenever I hear PaulWSAnderson my mouth starts foaming.

But see thats the beauty of it, you don't have to use it if you don't want to. If you'd like to be exposed to enemy fire that's fine but that'd be your choice for us that feel its an intelligent addition to the formula we now have it. Everyone is satisfied, why complain?

Yep. Although kudos to them, because this somehow avoids like looking like a greatest hits. Instead, it's looking like a glorious clusterfuck. :lol

And the action game comment isn't fair, cover is usually against these T-Plagas beasties

This was a great Capcom day (that demo)...
Then it turned into a nightmare (that trailer)...

I'm going to play some RE4 while the tears are drying.

Soo it looks like, maybe...

When you play as Leon the game is like RE4

When you play as Chris the game is like RE5

When you play as bald dude the game is like..Vanquish?

Yeah this is going to be dope. Old school fans may be sad it's not the game they want, but somehow the RE team became one of the best action developers in the business. RE5 was fucking excellent in terms of pacing, variety, creativity, and had incredible coop mechanics. They shot themselves in the foot: in their desire to make deep coop mechanics they went beyond the capabilities of their AI and so ruined the SP. If you hate on RE5, you owe it to yourself to try it again with a partner, it's apples and oranges. Plus they're no slouch in the graphics department either.

Given how this is the sixth game of the franchise, I'm geussing this is the endgame.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
The trailer looked amazing, espescially the lightning. I am going to pick up the PC version as long as it releases within a two month window of the console version. It seems like Capcom has achieved a good mixture of horror and action. Some horror for the longtime fans of the series, as well has a more action oriented part to ensure mass appeal. Hopefully they will also bring back Mercenaries. RE5's Mercenaries was a big step up compared to RE4, and I spent far more time with it than I did with the main campaign.

I didn't see any horror in there. I saw a shitload of action and scripted segments however.

The problem with games (and anything involving creative arts in general) is that when you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.

Well, that was completely disappointing. I was hopeful that they were going to move away from the action game approach after Takeuchi's reboot comments. Instead they've gone even crazier with that approach.

I thought this looked amazing. I don't really care if there's more action as long as the atmosphere and set pieces are right.

My biggest complaint about RE5 was that 90% of the game took place in daylight. It had zero atmosphere.

This game looks to really nail the horror mood, except you'll be shooting a lot of stuff. I don't give a shit.

To be fair, it looks really good. But I'm just not really down with the sort of high-tempo OTT action in conjunction with the RE franchise.

Zombies are claustrophobic monsters, they should lunge at you at out of the shadows in rooms with limited space to move, which to me seems really at odds with the relentless enbiggening of the action shown in the trailer.

the OTT helecopters explosions tanks etc don't seem to be in Leon's part so much. it's like everyone has forgotten the first minute or so of the trailer.

Because she's a tease, and on top of that she's a sexy mysterious tease that kicks ass in a hot fucking dress. You never know who's side she's on man! Teeeeeeeaaaaaaaseeeeeeeee

I don't think Capcom has said anything. I would expect it to be like 4 and 5. Maybe even less so.

I thought the chick at the end was Ashley.

Cheers for the reply! Hopefully there are some decent puzzels like in RE1/2.

Anyway i love me some Resident Evil and will buy this regardless, so does anybody know how long until amazon usually put these things up for pre-order?

Does anyone else think the three different campaigns/characters will present three distinctly different playstyles?

I'm kind of hoping it does.

Leon: RE4-styled horror. Solo. Without the goddamn escort missions.
Chris: RE5-styled action. Co-op.
New Guy: Something different again? Will Ashley be a co-op partner, or will she be someone to escort (or both?)?

If they do shake it up like that, I'd be very pleased, especially if each campaign is good enough to stand on its own feet.

OK so it's still two-thirds shit. That's too much for me.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Chris parts looked straight up like Gears and now he has even more incredible agility. How can it be survival horror if my character is a superhero?

Easily.
Swarm you with enough enemies that running is your only option, or make you fight the damned Cloverfield monster with a puny assault rifle, for starters.

Speaking strictly from a visual point of view, I think at RE5 looks a lot better about this game. Something about this one seems really unpolished. I know it's not finished yet, but I expected it to look equal to or better than its predecessor.

I never played RE5 alone, that would be torture. Coop mechanics are indeed good, but the rest? Pacing, variety, creativity? Naaaaah.

Having played RE: Revelations today made the reveal for me a whole bunch worse, I believe.

I just got into the mood of playing a more slow-payed, atmospheric Resident Evil and I started to anticipate that RE6 might go in that direction too ... and them came the trailer.

The first part was actually really promising. Leon's gameplay looked really atmospheric and promising, but what came after it was just ... eh.

Chris started talking and I realized quickly: I hate that guy. The gameplay shown was RE5++ which is probably not that bad on its own (I actually enjoyed RE5!), but I absolutely hoped for something else.

And then the new guy came... I really don't understand who thought that putting him into the game would be a good idea. RE is now an action brawler? What? It's like they don't care at all anymore for the past of the series, lolz.

Hearing that one can play every part of the game individually just makes it worse. That's like saying "If you don't like one part you can just skip it!", yeah, cool story, but you know what? I don't want to play a game where I skip 30% of the game or even more!
