Resident Evil 6 DEMO VER. Thread: Capcom's final chance for redemption

It's incredible to me that some people think that slow walking sections through dark rooms with scripted lightning strikes is a sign of them returning to their roots. Hook, line, and sinker. Good job, Capcom.

Or, how about that really great moment when you walk through the dining hall and come back to it to find all the balloons and chandeliers swaying gently against the breeze in near-pitch blackness? It was suitably creepy and atmospheric and also visually impressive. Compared to what we've been getting from this series, yeah, I'd say that stuff in the demo made me very hopeful.

Also, it may be a good idea to see what the full game actually has to offer before writing it off when it comes to the horror atmosphere. For what it's worth though, I felt this way about Revelaitons. After a couple of hours it completely stopped trying to be creepy and turned into one of the most generic and god awful shooters with some of the goofiest characters in any RE game, and yet I see people heaping praise on that one all the time like it was some spectacular return to form.

Maybe thats why he didnt want to make anymore resident evil games, because capcom probably forced him to make more action oriented games like biohazard 4. I also think that mikami also wanted to make a survival horror game like dino crisis on next generation systems.

I don't think so. IIRC, he had free reign over RE4. Also, he made Vanquish after. He was clearly interested in action games.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but the increased focus on melee had me sold from the beginning. Melee attacks were the best part of RE4 and RE5 and now for the knife (OR FIST WEAPONS) being legitimate just makes me want to tear this game apart.

It's a great game, or at least I think so. Plus with Gold Edition you get what is in my opinion the best RE console experince since Remake with Lost In Nightmare.

I always avoided it due it not looking scary, but I dont mind a decent action game, especially with split-screen.

Not going to lie, it lacks in Horror. However the game as a whole makes up for it, and thankfully LiN brings in some much needed tension and cool level design.

Would be nice if the lightning was just random.

I think it's hilariously wrong for lightning to make Leon flinch over and over... the guy has shot his way through hell for over a decade without cracking, and lightning sets him off?

haha... no.

lol yeah thats what I was thinking. Its Metroid Other M "Samus freezing up at Ridley" level stuff. Now should it be used to make the player uneasy? Sure. But only in the way that random glass breaking or things falling out of vents does. Dont make the character themselves flinch.

True, but I think I've been gaming long enough to know that these moments will be far and few between. Also, that moment would have been better if something actually cool was happening. Escorting that stupid father looking for his dumb looking daughter killed whatever mood there was supposed to be. Waiting for some guy to move a mattress or whatever the fuck it was out of my way so we could proceed down a one-note corridor, yeah, no thanks.

Yeah, Revelations was pretty much a joke. The supporting cast members were definitely goofy as shit. Man, you just got me thinking about all the really extra bad parts of Revelations. Those endless Hunter wave sections, oh my god...so terrible.

After playing the 360 demo almost daily for two months, I can confirm that the PS3 version, which I downloaded today, doesn't measure up. Despite the 360 version's terrible tearing, the PS3 version drops more frames, has some really ugly aliasing going on, and loses graphical effects here and there. I generally prefer the PS3 pad, but aiming feels less intuitive and successful thanks to the slight choppiness. I'm slightly annoyed, since I was banking on purchasing the PS3 version. I'm now thinking of getting a 360 copy. Both iterations of the game will no doubt be subject to change, but I'm disappointed in the PS3's performance here. IMO, PS3 RE5 fared better against its 360 counterpart.

That said, the PS3 version is still a great-looking, great-playing game. If you don't have the chance to play them side-by-side, you won't know what you're missing and will have an awesome experience regardless.

It's the old E3 demo...the performance in the new builds was fixed (for both versions)

Well that somewhat justifies my decision to pre-order the 360 version over the PS3 version. Hopefully they're both fixed by the time the game releases.

Okay time to do a little fishing!

I got a 50% off code for anything in the "Ubistore" excluding pre-orders and GR: Future Soldier. Whoever hooks me up with an RE6 download token for PS3 can have it, no strings attached.

Already browsed the store and there's nothing I want, so it's up for grabs for whoever can gimme dat code.

Another site, spanish site i think, with a preview build gave a better impression of the PS3 version, guess will have to wait for the Sept 18 for a comparison of the newer builds.
Its a old demo so if this is true, i hope we see an improvement with newer demos. The last part you said is true but in my case i probably wouldn't get the game at full price if Capcom is shipping again another inferior port.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I haven't really been following the game due to a semi-blackout but thought the PS3 DD demo was pretty fun.

After figuring out the controls (and bumping aiming speed up a bit), I'm pleasantly surprised by how fluid and intuitive everything feels. Running bashes, sliding, weapon switching, that auto-aim L1+R1 thing, etc. It feels so good to be able to sprint into a dodge roll, pull back, and instantly redirect your shots to what you may have been running from (all while still lying on the ground, no less). I also like how cover obscures your vision, becoming a place that's focused more on gathering your bearings instead of being the same kind of cover we see in so many other games.

Can't wait.

So I guess this didn't happen. That's what I get for reading the OP.

I haven't updated the OP yet, but this was the information I had available to me almost two months ago. =/

I've been busy working on the actual OP to get worried about updating this, apologise.

Pros:

  • Awesome, hilarious cut-scenes (I lost it when those dudes were holding HELP signs at the camera)
  • Really good looking eyes
  • Really good looking hair
  • Dual wielding is back

Cons:

  • Forced walking, running speeds
  • Loading screens replaced with co-op door opening
  • Lighting looks like forced OPC mode
  • Diagonal aiming feels awkward
  • Character takes up too much screen real-estate

It's all good. Was just a bit disappointed when I didn't see it up. It's going to be up on the 18th, right?

That is the information we've been supplied, yes. I'll try to update that now.

In other news, the OT has gone GOLD. All we need now is a banner and it's all ready ^_^

Play it. It's good.

So I've heard. I'm still planning to play through RE2 and RE3 before RE6 comes out, but I doubt that will happen since I started replaying MGS1 yesterday lol. SUCH A GOOD GAME!!

A FULL MONTH BEFORE THE GAME LAUNCHES??!! Capcpom Nemesis pls

To be quite honest I realised I have a shitload of assessments coming up for University so I knew I had to get it done quickly.

Hopefully nothing TOO radical gets announced between now and then, but I can make adjustments as need be.

Keep in mind it will be posted on September 25th.

There is a spoiler OT already made up too, though I have to quickly put together a co-operative matchmaking one.

I'm sorry? When was dual wielding ever a thing in Resident Evil?

lol... real answer like others have said is CV.

Wait, there isn't a choice of walking speed? Thought I was doing something wrong in the demo last night.

BTW has anyone downloaded RE2 and RE3 from the PS Store? Are they in HD, or are they just the upscaled PSX game?

I DL'd pretty much every RE game available on PSN the other day... but progressing through them slowly.

They are certainly not HD haha... but you have some options for "smoothing" which imo is a mixed bag, results vary by game. It's better for some PS1 games, worse for others.

I'm playing on the Vita which offers a couple more options... but overall the games are still kinda gross looking. Sorry, it's true.

What I've been doing with RE1:DC is playing through a section, and then watching the same section from REmake on Youtube haha...

Anyway, from what I played of RE1 it looks slightly better on Vita (because of the crisp colors) than on my Monitor/PS3. But I ruin it a little bit my stretching to full screen. It's easier to play that way, and doesn't look too atrocious.

Move the stick less? (It might also be worth noting that you can move and aim now, but slowly, so any situations where you would have wanted to walk before you can now do with your gun up - just hold the aim button/trigger!)

They are just the original PSX games. Is that what you mean by upscaled?

Yeah that's right.

Dammit. I'm playing RE2 on an emulator right now, and while the character models are HD-ified, the pre-rendered backgrounds look like ass. I was wondering if the PSN versions are better, but it seems that it is not...

Hmm... I'd probably rather have a consistent IQ than one that lacks any continuity. You know the worst thing about these games as I'm going back through them isn't how they look, or even the controls or anything like that, it's the darn voice acting is ruining my nostalgia clouded memories! I mean I even remember it being bad, and totally "you, the master of unlocking" hammy... but I didn't remember the awful delivery.

However, the terrible localization is still entertaining as ever. When I was younger I thought everything was just really cryptic, but now I realize this person(s) just didn't know English very well. It's still has a certain charm to it though. *examines door puzzle*

"needs an armor"

Needs a whatnow? lol... having fun with the game. I've really forgotten most of it. It's kinda challenging too. I died a few times. Not sure if because the Vita has a small screen makes things tougher or what, but it's tense playing though cause I've been dying occasionally. The crows got me in two different spots. I forgot about the crows!

Heh yeah they're pretty tough at points. Not "Battletoads punishing" tough but more like "you will die if you don't know what you're doing" tough, especially if you're trying to get all the items. That big, long office in the police station with the massive desk in the middle, 3-4 zombies walking around, and the "dead" zombie lying on the ground is a pain to navigate, but oh so exhilarating.

Okay back in this thread just to say after having spent about an hour playing the "demo"

THE CAMERA IS FUCKING AWFUL!

GAF, you were right on this one

Hope this shit is fixed in final as it's literally unplayable for me at this point

I'm worried they will try and address the camera issues by changing its perspective rather than its function.

After playing the demo a bunch more. I don't believe the free camera works well for the game. I still believe it's playable, but it's quite difficult not to think about how much better it would be if bound to the player.

Do you mean the placement while aiming or the way it moves around (or both)?

The camera animation/tracking/whatever is truly awful. It's as though they haven't played a single 3rd person game from the last few years. I was watching The Last of Us demo and it really emphasized for me how far camerawork has come. All I can hope is that it's not as disorienting and distracting when you're actually playing compared to watching videos.

The primary difference being TLoU is a more traditional camera that is fixed to the player's perspective. For this reason, the game controls more similarly to a FPS and the camera isn't unwieldy.

The freely rotating camera in RE6 is fundamentally different. Mix in a little bit of floaty control jank in the player movement and you have a recipe for the problems we're reading about in this thread.

Wait a minute the more recent build of ps3 version with FXAA has more aliasing of no AA older build of 360? wat? & what the hell of effect has lost, out of my curiosity? I can understand your disappointement but I think you need to take a breath before put some sentences how facts... imho...
