I agree entirely with the second half of your post, I would love it if the game was limited saves only as well. However, what you said doesn't exactly disprove my points in the earlier post. Sure, you have Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Nioh and a bunch of indie games that imitate the difficulty curves, but you have to remember that those are niche titles. Think about what games sell best in the market today; COD, Battlefield, Ubisoft games, and GTA. Those games are designed to be quite hand-holdy by the devs to cater to mainstream gamers, who form the vast majority of the consumers in the industry. Most mainstream gamers wouldn't even touch Soulsbourne with a ten foot pole, only the dedicated fanbase do.
As another example, take Tomb Raider, for instance. The platforming in the classics were brutally hard and gruelling, you had to time and position Lara right to proceed. Now look at the recent games. Platforming has been dumbed down a lot, same goes for the Uncharted games. I mean, you're free to disagree, but this is a sentiment that many share about the industry today.
