Oh wow. Is there somewhere I can get a full plot summary?
Basic rundown of the main events of Resident Evil: Heavenly Island Manga (which was made by the same people who made the RE6 prologue manga, which was also canon and introduced Piers).
HEAVENLY ISLAND SUMMARY:
-The manga takes place in 2014, after RE6 and before RE7.
-There is a 'survival island' tv show being films on an island off the coast of South America starring swimsuit idols. A few of the idols and one of the cameramen are part of the main cast of the manga (and in my honest opinion, by far the worst part of the manga).
-Claire Redfield is also on the island investigating reports of strange fish B.O.W. for TerraSave. There is some strange virus that seeped into the water and mutated some of the fish, the people have been 'dealing' with infected people either attacked or consumed infected fish by killing them and burning the bodies. Claire calls into TerraSave for some back-up upon confirming that there is some type of BOW activity here.
-The people hosting the survival island show get attacked by some HUGE Tyrant-like BOW that wears a mask and wields a giant anchor. He kills and turns people into zombies, and picks up the zombies and takes them away, but for what reason is unknown at first. We later find out that this monster still has some of his humanity left (and we learn who he is later) and is trying to form a family in an underground cave to make a village and build a family of zombies up (but these are dumb zombies, not intelligent ones).
-Claire Redfield finds out this island was once an Umbrella testing ground that Ozwell Spencer bought in the 1960s. It's also where Alex Wesker was working for Spencer in RE5: Lost in Nightmares, before she ran away with the research. It was the island she was using to test and try to find a 'immortality virus' for Spencer.
-Part of Alex's test was trying different strains of the virus in hopes to make something that made people immortal while also retaining their humanity, and trying to seek out a perfect BOW by using the failures to 'combat' each other, using a sort of 'mixing pot' arena system inspired by the Chinese pot fights where they'd put predators together to fight and only the strongest gets to survive. The plan was to eliminate 'failures' until only one was left, and the strongest B.O.W. they'd take the strain of virus that had mutated inside of them to create a new BOW line.
-While this is happening, we find out that the survivor island show happening here was no coincidence, some crazy guy who lost his family to Umbrella after being an employee chose this island to unleash the old experiments on the island to televise the dangers of BOW to idols, because people place great importance on actors and TV idols, but gets killed in the process from a Witch Doctor who seems to know a lot which we learn more about later.
-Skipping a lot, but Claire contacts Chris, who's busy on some mission in the Middle East (related to the RE6 epilogue?), but knows a guy in the BSAA South American branch who may be able to help. Parker from Resident Evil Revelations comes to help aid Claire in exterminating BOWs on the island.
-Meanwhile the Witch Doctor unleashes a second giant BOW that was being nursed in ab abandoned ruin to take care of the pest and prove it's the BOW top running to be the ultimate from their arena test. Wipes out the BSAA agents outside of Parker, and begins to fight the other BOW with the giant anchor/mask.
-The BOW with the giant anchor/mask, meanwhile, had its 'zombie family' torn apart after the idol cameramen and an idol burn the village it made for them down while trying to survive the zombies, and the anchor BOW begins to actually cry and swears to get revenge on the two that killed its family.
-Skipping a lot again, they go underground and find the entrance to the hidden Umbrella facility under the island, there are three idols, the camera man, Claire, and a back-up TerraSave member left at this point (Parker goes to sacrifice himself to distract the BOWs so the rest of them can get away), they find a lot of signs of Umbrella's past and Alex Wesker's work on her time here on the island.
-They meet the Witch Doctor again, who reveals himself to have been a member of Umbrella who stayed after the companies demise and was Alex Wesker's right-hand man on the island. He stayed behind when she left to continue the research into the ultimate BOW, which he was too invested in to leave for the sake of immortality research. He felt entrusted by Alex to continue this research, and was on the brink of devising 'the ultimate BOW'.
-One of the members of the group that survives (one of the idols) is a double agent for a group known as Sheng-Ya, which is the primary corporation featured in Umbrella Corps. She contacts Sheng-Ya revealing the BOW research and virus strain being conducted here, and contacts Sheng-Ya to retrieve the sample. They confirm and send in Umbrella Corps agents to steal the sample. The double agent assassinates the right-hand Umbrella guy to take the research, but on her escape out she gets bitten by another idol who had turned zombie and is forced to use one of the vials on herself.
-The other Umbrella Corps agents from Sheng-Ya abandon her after retrieving the samples, and the woman who injected herself turns into a Molded and the Mold begins to grow across the walls that she retreats into. She comes out and mutates further into a giant being with reptilian features who's bent backwards (like Jack's final form) but with less eyes and more tentacles.
(when I read it, the last few chapters weren't translated yet, so I don't 100% know the conclusion but there were rocket launchers and fighting with the giant mutated double agent woman).
---
That's about the story of it, the original strain for the Eveline project seems to have been taken from a BOW research center and was taken from a BOW who had traces of his humanity left and a strange focus on family, when the woman injects herself she basically turns into a Molded, the virus was stolen and taken from Sheng-Ya, who is likely the corporation that Mia is working for who was featured also in Umbrella Corps. It also fits since Sheng-Ya is shown in the manga to primarily use ships to transport themselves.
