Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

Take Sheva so we get her back! Capcom stop making great characters and ditching them.

The pain

It's such a no brainer having Billy Cohen and Sheva in Revelations 3. Billy is a badass and his backstory tied into progentior flowers in Africa. Shit writes itself.

A man can staple his leg on =/= a black ops helicopter has a logo

Meh lol

Nah Umbrella can't help but plaster their logo all over their illegal secret facilities, they love it so much, they probably get hard from the danger of getting caught

I'd be ok with this. I'd love more Billy Fucking Cohen. Bring back Carlos too!

I finished the game last night. I played through half of it in VR and the other half out of VR (just for comparison sake). Loved the game and it is right up there with RE1, RE2 and RE4 as the best in the series.

I'm confused about Lucas in this game though. If the rest of the family were normal people negatively affected by Evaline's wrath, why was Lucas such a horrible person if he wasn't affected by the mold and was in contact with Evaline's caretakers the whole time? Was this explained at all? Why did he want Ethan dead?

I think 1 of the files found in his room suggested he was taken to have his brain scanned as a child, possible the parents knew something was up with him early on.

If his childhood diary is any indication, he's been a shitty person since birth

It clearly isn't Chris, imo. No reason for them to change the character model, no reason for him to call himself by his surname if he's actually Chris.

This. If they wanted to shock people that Chris is now working for Umbrella, they would of gone out of their way to keep the character model the same, and introduce himself with his full name.
Otherwise then it's this situation where people aren't sure what's going on which has to be what the staff were going for.

Oh, right. I assumed he was turned shitty because the beginning scene at the dinner table showed him to not be fussed by his 'daddy' stabbing him brutally.

Plus Chris would never work for Umbrella.

I think it's a much safer assumption that this guy is someone else.

Yeah it is.....

You're all gonna be in for a rude awakening when it turns out to be chris. Hopefully they'll listen to the feedback this time.

I wouldn't put it past Capcom to be that stupid to make Chris' character model so different even with Vendetta round the corner but...
It would still be that stupid of a move. Way to totally fuck up the impact of the ending because some dev member wanted to make him look different for no good reason.

Yeah it is.....
Red herring.

OK, I finished it. Overall, I liked it. The ending was good, but it felt like it was "supposed" to end like 2 hours earlier. It was kind of strange.

Anyway, a few questions:

1. What the hell happened to Lucas? He didn't mutate or anything and kind of just vanished.
2. There's a scene near the end of the game where Ethan is stuck in the icky goo of Evie and Mia (or Zoe, I guess?) is about to rescue him after moving through the ship. Right before that happens, the player gets a flashback of Ethan talking to Jack (with Zoe next to him) about how the family is a victim, too and they aren't bad people. My question is: when the hell does this take place? Since Jack is cured at this point, but the last you saw of Ethan was that Evie took him...so the continuity is confusing.
3. The guy at the end is clearly not Chris...but he was a Redfield?
4. How isn't Ethan infected? I mean, come on, he was in contact with that mold forever, and Evie had ample ample time to infect him. He was in one of her goo cocoons for at least an hour for christ's sake.

You mean the full name they give in the credits?

But of course the credits are gonna say Chris Redfield. They're not gonna spoil their own twist.

They're not gonna show this guy and then five minutes later have the credits show:

Not-Chris

or

"Redfield"

or

Redfield *wink wink*

The guy could still be Chris, it's very likely that it is him. But if it wasn't, they're not gonna spoil their own twist.

I really love Redfield's redesign. He looked too goofy before.

That's assuming everyone will bother to watch the credits. If they wanted desired impact it would of made more sense to do in the game's ending, especially when spoken.

You reminded me how awesome the RE7 credit roll was. Really well done.

1. Ran away. Probably will be in DLC
2&4. Ethan is very likely infected, but in the early stages, seeing as he can begin to see Evie, but not long enough that Evie has control over him like the Bakers and Mia. Also remember he tries to take both serum syringes from Zoe. It's sorta weird that they never come out and say that he is but the clues are there.

That scene suggests there's a psychic hive mind by those infected by the Mold

3. Hate to disappoint (I am too) but that's gonna be Chris. He looks different due to being based on the actor he's portrayed by (photogrammetry)

I thought Lucas was that giant boss you killed by injecting him with the serum. The one where you would shoot the eyeballs.

Wasn't that him? That wasn't just a molded..

That was Jack...Ethan even calls him out by name...he cries about Marguerite's death...

Ok I'm convinced Capcom somehow screwed that scene up because you're not the first person to think that was Lucas

Because introducing a character in RE game by having his name being Redfield doesn't have a impact?

Having the name in the credits as Redfield wouldn't spoil the twist. That wouldn't confirm it to be Chris nor it wouldn't confirm it to be not Chris. Having it as Chris Redfield is there so that if you missed who the character was.

I'm still amused that several people thought the giant boss with numerous eyes was mutated Lucas, it was obviously Jack. He mourns over his wife's death and even says his "Little Ethan" line. Furthermore, Ethan blatantly says "This is getting old, Jack!". Did you guys put the volume way down and turn off subtitles or something? :P

What was the toy shotgun used for that you find in the attic? Could you replace the broken shotgun with that and repair the broken one?

What about the other toy?

I never found a repair kit in my playthrough.

They should have had a Zelda style boss title card for him just to make it absolutely clear

Giant Molded Abomination
ULTIMATE JACK BAKER

That fight wouldn't have been out of place in a Zelda game actually.

Yes to your first question. The toy axe is used in a puzzle to get one of those boosters that increases your reload speed.

The repair kits are pretty well hidden.

Yes. One repair kit is under the porch in the yard, the other you use the toy axe for a shadow puzzle in the yard (I don't know where it is I've never actually did that and I don't think it's on Madhouse?)

One of his best lines is "Nice car, Ethan" and he sounds just like Goofy when he says it. Cracks me up.

My mind was actually blown when I much later that was actually Ethan's car in the garage and not the Bakers'

5-6 didn't have mind control though

Well 5...sorta did (Jill)

The first repair kit is under the decking in the yard, right by the dog door. The other one I think was in the test area somewhere, I forget exactly where

After a great atmosphere the ending was pure resident evil wackyness, and not in the cool old style 1-3 but in the Michael bay shitshow 5-6

Dropped the game final rating for me. Went from OMG WHATS THIS to HUH

Where was the broken shotgun, anyway? I never found it...but I did find the toy AND the other repair kit...

Yup, felt the same way.

Because introducing a character in RE game by having his name being Redfield doesn't have a impact?

To raise questions on his identity, yes. If this was a BSAA chopper then it'd be much easier to believe that it's just Chris Redfield with a different photogrammetry actor.
But also, I just can't really see why Chris would want to withhold his full name. That's some black ops shit right there. That's out of character, just like him being a part of Umbrella. Both RE5 and RE6 has him regaining his dedication to fight against bioterrorism.

Otherwise they throw that away for some Captain America bullshit twist.

The final boss was full on Uroboros, can't say I liked it. Mines didn't bother me, they only lasted like half an hour

Bruh in RE2 you basically fought a
mutated train while you were riding it
during the finale. This wasn't really near that level of shitshow.

I mean, Ethan literally says "this is getting old, Jack" at that point.

People just didn't pay attention.

It's a noisy moment with a lot of visual information being put on the player. Plus logic (and a game history) dictates that Lucas threatening the player with suprises he would logically be the next boss and not just disappear from the story altogether.

I can see why so many people made that mistake.
