Resident Evil Movie - Teaser Trailer

Doesn't look bad and the protagonist is a white man so that's quite rare these days. ;)

Does it need to be called Resident Evil? Probably not, especially not without a subtitle to let people know this is some separate story.

Because they demoed it as a VR game where you're just sitting in a chair... of course no one knew it was RE.

it was still the themes and characters from the final game.

thematically it was completely new for resident evil, and basically nothing from the prior games was there.

this movie seems to go a similar route. a story set in the same universe where Umbrella experiments on bio weapons that get released into the wild, but in an environment that we haven't seen before.

I genuinely think some people just want the new Super Mario movies but with Resident Evil.

Mr. X has Jill Sandwich and Chris Impregnate My Sister cornered in the RPD police station when an explosion suddenly fills the screen with debris, and when the smoke clears... IT'S TOFU!!!

THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!

*dangles keychain*
100%

There are tons of people on here who defended the Mario Galaxy movie and legitimately think it's actually good. It's crazy, but it's true.

Chris Pratt playing Barry: "You, the master of unlocking."

*moronic crowd cries and screams and shits themselves in joy*

Looks phenomenal. Will be the best RE movie ever.

As usual, gamers showing their embarrassing taste in movies, writing, direction, etc. LMAO

Of course its not going to be a stupid video gamey ass movie, like DOOM and the old RE movies.

Bro we've had
  • zombie outbreak with giant fucking zombie sharks, crows, and spiders
  • worldwide bioweapon outbreak with giant hulking terminators
  • Giant zombie plants
  • Dudes with Matrix super powers
  • Generic Spaniards and giant fish
  • Roided up agents punching fucking boulders
  • Inbred rednecks with black cum monsters
  • Vampire mommies, Quasimodo that fucked a fish and had a retarded kid, a poster from /b/, and female Jared Leto
So what exactly does Resident Evil look like? Because even if we don't count the animated/live action films there isn't really a cohesive look to any of it. At this point it's just sci-fi horror.
It's not a stretch to believe he could've satisfied everyone by just setting the movie inside a mansion.

Hell, even renaming the character to Leon Kennedy and making him a rookie cop instead of an organ courier would've won everyone over.

It still looks great though. But yeah, wish it had a little more of a connection.

Looks like an unrelated horror movie. Might be good, who knows. But it doesn't appear to have anything in common with RE.

I'd rather not see any videogames turned into movies or tv. Interactivity is what makes them good, the stories are almost always no more than average. But for some reason here we are in 2026 still looking for validation from industries that look down on our hobby without understanding that it dwarfs their dying artform.

Certainly a "to each their own" situation. I figured some people would complain because some really want/need to see direct connections to the game. I guess zombies and creatures (that we heard so far) are not enough.

This is appears to be an approach where we're seeing the outbreak during or RIGHT after it happens from the perspective of an average person. Someone not related to any characters, to Umbrella, to STARS, etc. Which I honestly think is a smart move, especially since we've received 7 Resident Evil movies that were far from perfect and did plenty of their own things. Feels like a breath of fresh air, honestly. While it's not hitting us over the head with nostalgia and references to the games from the look of the trailer, it looks like it's trying to a better film. I'm all for that.

in a game design sense yes, in a thematic sense absolutely not.
they successfully demoed the game without anyone knowing it's resident evil, a year before being unveiled fully.
It was though. It had the same absurd ridiculous horror as all the other ones with people morphing into building size monsters, corny one-liners, etc.

The only thing that didn't feel like Resident Evil was the original trailer and reveal. When you play the game it's very Resident Evil, just in first-person.

I'm intrigued. The only thing I was hoping the director would try to do with this film's plot is a full one-shot movie in the vein of the 1917 film, since it all seemingly takes place during one continuous night.

Maybe that's too much of a budget though.

How would you have done it?
The first movie was good in terms of atmosphere and locations, the main problem with it was the script which had nothing to do with original games and its cast, plus writing was bad.

They basically should've taken original movie concept, mixed it with the first game in terms of location (Mansion), added laboratory stuff for the second and third act and written better script closer to original. As for the cast, idk, tough to say.

If you saw Weapons you saw that this director was good at telling a story of one character up to a certain point before jumping back in time to another character and following them up to the point of the jump. I could see that working out amazing for a Resident Evil 2 movie jumping between Leon and Claires A & B scenarios. I hope this first movie ends with the nuke going off and then part 2 starts back in time with Leon at the gas station.

If you saw Barbarians, and even Weapons, you'll know this director LOVES to switch up the setting/theme halfway through the movie without any hint of it in a trailer.

Meaning....We will probably get a mansion.

He is a fantastic horror movie director , im 1000% positive this will be the best RE movie ever by 10 miles

Barbarian was ass and weapons was just fine. People glazing this director have never seen a good movie.
They were great. Not "fine". Do you watch much horror?

Barbarian was great.

Weapons was okay but kind of disappointing (IMO)

I could see his style working well with Resident Evil. His movies always kinda feel like a survival horror game.

It wouldn't have immediately clicked with me that this was a Resident Evil universe movie if the trailer wasn't titled such( yes it has some of the series tropes but I didn't immediately think 'yep, that's Resident Evil alright'). That said if it's competently done I'll watch it just because I like horror and then see where it connects to the main running story. Personally I don't need an adaptation of the games, because well, I already know those stories. But I wouldn't mind seeing, for example, Leon done well on-screen in some capacity and not that abomination of his characterization in Welcome to Raccoon City.

At the moment I don't really like it that much, hopefully that changes once they shown more. Currently less hype for it than when I first saw a trailer for Welcome to Raccoon City and the original first 2000s Resident Evil.

No doubt about it being the best. This looks good and all other RE movies have set a VERY low bar.

But it's not representative of the story/setting unless they're hiding a lot from the trailer.

Cursed IP for the silver screen, I don't know how or why, but this is like the third time trying to launch the franchise for cinema, not counting the embarrassment of the Netflix meme-adaptation

I'm grateful they didn't try to shoehorn a mainline character with some lame ass actor that doesn't look even a bit similar, if it's a self contained story it doesn't tarnish the brand, so that's good

All passed movies heavily based on the games were some hot trash, so I'm giving this a chance. Weapons was really good, if you haven't seen it yet, go watch it.

I'm fine with having new characters as long as lore is truthful to the games.

To be fair, those movies weren't trash because they were based on the games. They were trash because the directors/writers attached to them were awful.
That is also true but in games plot is also goffy AF, it would suit anime more probably, so I'm fine with them doing something else rather seeing another iteration of Leon or Chris.

Zach Cregger himself breaks down the trailer:

  • Movie takes place alongside the events of RE 2
  • Mostly takes place over the course of one night
  • This is another guy on his own objective outside of Raccoon city during those events
  • He is trying to get inside of the city while the T-virus has already broken out
  • The nuke at the end of RE2 does not take place in this movie, it is before that
  • He wanted the movie to emulate the game's feeling of facing bigger threats
  • This also means having the protagonist be aware of resource management and health
  • Points out that protagonist starts with pistol
  • Eventually finds shotgun, then MP5
  • A lot of the movie has a steady cam following the protagonist to emulate a third person game's visual language
  • There is also some first person scenes
  • He wanted there to be tension and slowness like in Resident Evil
  • Does not have a 'nemesis' character in the movie due to the above
  • He wanted to make a Resident Evil movie where you're following an average joe with little to no combat experience who is learning his guns and adapting to his environment
  • The box the protagonist is carrying is important
  • Doesn't reveal yet what the big naked obese guy does yet
  • Wants the smaller threats to be actual threats
  • Movie focuses a bit more on the T-virus creatures than the regular zombies
  • Has a unique creature that is hinted at
  • There is an herb in the trailer and other things that people might notice on second viewing
  • He likes RE4 the most, and also liked RE8, loves the older games (especially RE2) for their tension and puzzle solving, but he loves the replayability of 4 the most

Far from glazing dude, the horror genre has been horrid ass for a long, long while. Creggers is one of the few doing cool and creative things within the genre. Not saying his films are perfect, but good god are they better than other horror films. Or you know, yet another ham fisted sequel to some overdone IP that James Wan is attached to.

Haven't seen any of these movies, but what I've seen in this trailer is worse than the first RE movie, even if it's not 100% lore accurate and writing is bad.

Sure, why not. Can't be any worse than the dumbass RE movies we got in the past. This sounds a lot more grounded considering who it's following. Looking forward to it!
