RESISTANCE 2: The Official Thread of Mankind's Last Stand

Wow, I just realized I've already clocked in 10+ hrs in the co-op. Great stuff. Medic is still probably my favorite class. SpecOps isn't too far off; I quite enjoy its dual role of sniping and providing ammo. I also find the Soldier fun to play, though I haven't touched this one so much as of yet. I can see why people can find it repetitive if your SpecOps are really good and just stand behind you and keep your shield up indefinitely - but that's not my style of play. I protect my SpecOps and medics when I can or have to, but I'll be daring and run off to revive downed allies who ventured a bit too far in, covering myself with the shield. I also won't rely too too much on the spec, saving my shield for crucial moments, and not using it when not being fired at by the whole enemy army. I'll hide behind cover when I can, try to flank the enemy, get in close with the shotgun. Of course, I'll also assume the traditional soldier role of meatshield when the team requires it depending on the situation. I have soldier ADHD!

As a whole, it can be satisfying when the whole team works really well and we play very efficiently, but I think I enjoy it when the team isn't that good, providing for some nice challenge. It's fun when you're being completely overwhelmed and you're fighting just to keep the team alive.

Edit:That co-op level with the 2 tunnels is a very hard level. :lol

The exp racks up fast especially in Skirmishes, its the kills i am having trouble with. I cant score more than a dozen or so per game for the life of me. I haven't tried much deathmatch though, because I just hate DM in general. And I dont want to grind DM matches. I want to enjoy my playing...

This really is a fantastic game. I've only had the game 2 weeks and I've almost completed my second play through. I'm not really keen on MP though and expect it will be dead once K2 hits the market. I'm sure co-op will keep people coming back.

Does anyone think that in co-op that if you aren't revived that you should be dead? Seems to me that one player can always stay out of the action to ensure that people respawn.

Heck no. Winning is fun. Losing and watching other people play while you have to sit out is not.

10,000 kills?? With 4 hours I have 600 kills in deathmatch. It does feel like grinding, i just wish there were more incentives to keep leveling up. i just keep getting costume stuff?

Yeah only thing I dont like is sometimes you get game full of snipers, which is very annoying.
Which is why I prefer smaller, 10-20 player matches. In the 60 player matches, you always have that group of douches that camp and snipe.

I just wish that for bigger games, like the 40-60 player games, the kill count limit was higher. Big ranked games only last about five minutes or less, because there's more people in the room and the kill limit is the same (160).

Logged on 45 minutes ago to get the last 40k xp I needed for the Point Man trophy... I normally get about 15-18kxp on a team deathmatch, so I thought it should take maybe 20-25 minutes. I was just so awful, even though it was constantly my favourite map (although the Encroachment map on Orick sucks...). I think I had one game where I hit double figures for kills when I went on a blitz at the end nabbing a few each time with a couple of grenades. Maybe I'm getting a bit burned out of competitive. Should probably take a break.

So (until very, very recently) multiplayer's been a blast.

The single player was a bit dull. The visuals were my main annoyance - it was either too dark or too bloody orange. The sun was always setting it seemed. The gameplay itself was a bit better than I remember R1 being but the game really lost all the charm the first one had. I dunno if it's the setting, the 'different' story-perspective or the levels themselves. At its best, the game was excellent, but it could get incredibly boring at times.

Also the difficulty of the game was really strange. I died nearly 90 times :lol Fair enough there were a few times where it was down to my stubbornness (the boss in chicago a prime example :lol ). I would feel confident in saying that over 50% of these I would end up thinking 'what the fuck...' as I would be one-shot out of nowhere. The difficult sections weren't really entertaining as I normally find them to be in other games either, but the bread and butter sections of a dozen hybrids being thrown at you (their whole zerg mentality was a bit annoying...) were dull so that's just me being awkward.

I think it was in this thread where I read someone describe it as 'trial by death' which is pretty much spot on.

Parts I enjoyed were getting to take down a frigging huge thing in the tutorial, the magnum (<3), fighting
the Kraken - the only time the orange pallette was quite nice
, going inside
the Chimeran battleship - the first time, I dunno what it was, but the whole thing just clicked for me
, the platforming section in Chicago, the boss in Chicago, that huge fight on the bridge, and then towards the end
defending the bomb
.

Overall I think I got my moneys worth but it should've stayed a bit more faithful to the first game in the single player campaign - hopefully the co-op one is quite good, although I haven't touched it yet. Got high hopes for that.

Chicago was the best part of the game. Best graphics, best gameplay, best design. The "boss" was okay, but I think I would have liked it a lot more if I hadn't know about it before hand.

The good thing is.. I'm sure R3 will be a perfect blend of both of the campaigns of the first two.

Hence why I'd like to see the loadout concept tossed in favor of system with a better sense of balance.

Louisiana was pretty cool, at least the swamp part. Houses looked nice too. However, it would've been nice if they gave the Marauder a better intro instead of just assuming the player knew what it was.

Your design team internally seems heavily consensus-based anyway.

RS: Absolutely. It all starts with Ted. That's Ted's approach: collaboration, creativity, quality over quantity, and independence. Those are the qualities that drive the company, those are the qualities that Ted stands for, and they're lived every day

PSN name is Pojosamaneo.

May add some people for co-op, I'm pretty awful at competitive. Any tips? I'm used to Call of Duty where you see someone and one of you will die within two seconds of said sighting. This is like...soak in the bullets for a few seconds and someone runs behind you and kills you both. It's weird.

Ok, need some help.

The announcer guy in coop no longer announces anything to me. I heard it through other people's TV's when they have mics so I know it is happening. How do I fix this?

It happens once a while. :(

I've been playing all of the levels in a team of 3. I thought for the most part it was making it harder, but that part is really easy with 1 of each class.

Im crossing my fingers so the patch is released this month.
Make it happen Insomniac ! :lol

It's a joke that I have to start all over again because I have a new PS3. How can something like this happen? I want to play right now but I won't because the synching with the server isn't there. That's a major bug.

Hehe, that is nothing. Remember how I got a defect game?

I've replayed the game 6 times, pretty pathetic.

Or just get all of the requirements for the trophies or whatever you want since your online stats are still there, and wait for the patch.

finally! platinum trophy get!

death match is a pain in the ass with the AWESOME spawning points, otherwise it's been a phenomenal cooperative experience, a fun competitive game (skirmish) and an ordinary if not disappointing single player campaign.

So are you gonna stop playing ?

I'll be playing with you guys in skirmish/cooperative 'cause it's a lot of fun (maybe until Killzone 2 hits or more, depending on what the R2 patch adds to the game) but definitely no more games with random people to get the 10000 kills.

Ok, i just played some small TDM in the awesome forest in Orick, the spawn points are devils work :D

This is what I'm dreading.

And beating SP on Superhuman. I played on Normal my first time so I'll have to play through it twice to get that trophy. Ugh.

yeah that's an awesome map for death match, and spawning in TDM is just fine... I was referring to old vanilla single player death match, keep away from it.

edit: Flunkie, not sure but I heard something along the lines that loading and finishing the last level on whichever difficulty gets you the trophy.

Wait, so I could load up the last level on Difficult, beat it, then load up the last level on Superhuman and then get the trophy? If so.. :D

You still have to finish the complete campaign on Hard to unlock Superhuman, but when that diff. level has been unlocked, you can simply load the first checkpoint of the last level and play from there to get the OMGWTFBBQ trophy.

Congratulations Lince, you're fucking rawr chimera-killer :D . Im around 1600 kills, and my objetive is to get the Platinum (if Killzone 2 lets me play other online shooters in the PS3). Time will tell.

And by the way, if you complete singlepayer in Hard, superhuman is not that difficult. In fact, because all chimeras are elite and carry the awesome Bullseye Mark II, I found it even easier OoU

Yeah, I also wish there is more incentive to keep leveling up. The good incentives stopped at the low-level upgrades (LAARK, Pulse Cannon, and other berserks). I've played competitive MP for 33 hours, and I have just over 3,900 kills.

Letdown total. :(

1,700 kills w/ 9 hours here

I cant bring myself to play DM. So I popped in Batlefield Bad Company for a while, the MP is fantastic, I love the long range open map game.

Small 10-player Deathmatches are the best and fastest way to raise your Competitive stats and XP. It helps that they're also fun most of the time.. when you don't get stupid spawns.

I just wish you could stay in the same lobby after the game ends. That really, really irks me.

So after that, all I gotta do is press start and change difficulty? That's awesome. :lol

To all those complaining about the 10k kill requirement, just don't keep thinking about it and you should be able to get it soon enough. If you have fun playing R2 Competitive, then 10k kills is NOTHING. If you're not enjoying it, then yeah, it'll be a nightmare for you to achieve.

Honestly though, R2's trophies are pretty easy to obtain, especially compared to the ridiculously hard-to-obtain trophies SOCOM Confrontation has.
