Jose, as the picture of obsequiousness
It was a great episode, as always when Jeremy talks about Metroid. However, I am slightly disappointed in their non-treatment of Other M, while the story in it sucked, that game could have used some serious discussion of its gameplay.
We'll save that for our eventual episode on 3D Metroid games. We ignored anything involving polygons, or else this episode would have been uselessly glancing.
It was sort of a joke. I only know him through podcast appearances, but that's how he usually comes across to me. I'm sure he's lovely.Come on.
So how was the latest metroid episode? I am not able to download it.
I'm dying to know how this podcast would have went had it been recorded post-E3.
I played HL2 on the Xbox, then played the episodes (plus Portal and TF2) on my new gaming PC when The Orange Box came out.
When can we start considering the 360 retro? It's now over 10 years old!
Congrats?
All future episodes of Retronauts will actually be a "10 years later" chronological retelling of the Xbox 360's life. When we hit 2026, we'll shift to "10 years later" recaps of those episodes.
Thanks for the unnecessary, douchey response. I'll be sure to post a sarcastic "congrats" in here when I finally get my kickstarter backer rewards three years after paying for them.
Have you guys explored the possibility of having the podcast on spotify?
That would probably get you a few extra $$$, also exposure of being part of the pioneers.
PSP Episode us up on Pateron.
How could you guys forget about the Tapwave Zodiac when talking about handhelds out at that time? I mean come on, it had such amazing games as StarPong, Xploids, Z Pack: Adventure, and a Spy Hunter game based on the movie staring The Rock that never happened!
Just kidding, Ray remembered the GP32 which is even more obscure. The thing used SmartMedia cards:lol
There's a 1UP Show YouTube video of me singing about Mario to the tune of "Maria" from West Side Story in which I'm playing a GP32X... I think I used it for about a month to play through Cave Story and some pretty lame NES emulators before dropping the thing like a hot potato.
Wipeout Pure was the must have PSP launch game for me. It looked amazing, played great and reviewed very well. But of course it's not even mentioned on Yankonauts.
Oh man I remember that ghost and goblins thread
Great episode
I was a lurker back then. Duckroll wasn't a mod back then as well, but looking at it now it seems like it a mod made the thread.Oh man I remember that ghost and goblins thread
Great episode
At 21:17 they lament the lack of quality games at the PSP's launch. The only titles mentioned are DarkStalkers Chronicles, Metal Gear Acid and Lumines.
Since Ridge Racer and Wipeout Pure are still in the top 10 rated PSP games 11 years later it's very odd not to mention them. Almost as if facts that don't fit the PSP-had-a-weak-launch narrative were being ignored.

Is this it?

I didn't realize that giving Ghost and Goblins a low review score worthy of being tarred and feathered:lol
Yankonauts
I think you must have mistakenly listened to a retro masturbation podcast.
Ridge Racer and WipEout Pure were superb launch games, both showed just what could be achieved on the hardware, they both had a level of polish above and beyond 90% of launch titles on any platform (Mario games aside). Add in Lumines and Virua Tennis and the PSP dumps all over the DS launch line up from a great height.
PSP took me away from console gaming in a big way, I remember being blown away by Pro Evolution Soccer and Football Manager appearing on the system, then all the JRPGs, great arcade racing games, awesome 3D platformers, puzzle games and of course portable OutRun 2006, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Power Stone, Tekken and Soul Calibur!
Oh PSP, how I loved thee <3
After listening to the first half or so of the excellent Uematsu episode and all the discussion on this topic, I have to share my not so secret shame: I did actually play the Final Fantasy theme in my wedding ceremony, lol. It was the FFXII arrangement, and it was the recessional rather than at the beginning. There's a moment where everyone under 30 in the audience suddenly realized what it was while all the olds were just hearing some random classical music, it was pretty good. Sorry Kohler!
Just upped my support from $1 to $3 a month and also decided to support Jeremy's stuff at $2. Five bucks a month well spent. I've come to realize that these guys create the only video game-related content I regularly care about any more. Keep it up!
