I'm arguing idiotic semantics with... well. nevermind that. We'll just say you.

I just feel long live the king is probably not the right thing to say right now. As far as I'm concerned there is no new king and there won't be for a long time.

OMG !! I just heard the news,

It feels `like a friend died, I met the man a few times in the past and I'm a huge fan.

REST IN PIECE MICHAEL !!

What the fuck. MTV is playing music videos.

Have I been teleported to an alternate dimension?!

Not just music videos, but the best music videos.

MTV is watchable for this one day only. It's Michael's final gift.

Two perspective, Michael Jackson was an amazing musical artist, and secondly he was a fucked up individual. You have to remember though his dad was insane and I'm sure it affected him greatly. Either way Mike, you the man and you'll be missed for sure. Very few people I'm sure would think this was a good thing.

Elvis, Lennon, or Michael Jackson huh?

Dude, this guy owned most of the Beatles catalogue of music AND married Elvis' daughter. What are the odds.

I don't think that's any coincidence, MJ realized how huge the Beatles and Elvis were, they are #1 and #2 in the history of music and he wanted to be up there with them, and he was.

I remember back in the day I grew up with his music man. Even in Iran, he was and still is a huge deal. He is to me the definition of world fame. Everyone knows him, and everyone loves him. A truly sad day to see a musical legend leave us.

This assumes people don't do this all the time. You need thicker skin.

I consider the jokes a tribute to his enormous popularity and impact on the world.

Well I consider the jokes to be about as crass and tasteless as you can get, at least posted in this thread. There is a time and place for that sort of thing, this thread is not it. I guess you don't understand there are appropriate and inappropriate times for cracking jokes. Everyone else seems to grasp the concept fairly easily, don't know why you are having such a hard time with it, but whatever you say man, whatever you say....=/

Very very sad. I grew up through the 80s and one of the first songs I ever remember is 'Beat It'. The man was a legend even with all his exploits. He will be truly missed.

the thing that surprises me is just how few albums he actually released. He's effectively the king of pop based on two or three albums - mostly Thriller, with a little off the wall and bad. Plus all the Jackson five stuff of course, but not that much as a solo artist

The news doesn't really affect me emotionally, but he is one of those people that transcends logic and is just a superstar.

MJ's star is blocked off because of the Bruno premiere, it's a mess at the walk of fame right now and there's a slew of people at UCLA Medical Center.

For years, I always dreamed of the day that Jackson would collaborate with Quincy Jones again and put out one last killer album.

I really thought it was a possibility.

I'm sad. So, so sad. God, I loved him as a kid. I had really hoped he'd have an amazing comeback someday. His life seemed so strange, wonderful, and tragic all at the same time.

No shit, but you're not the taste police. Let it slide and remember what matters.

Oh wow :lol

I'm kinda bummed. Poor guy had a strange life, I hope he gets remembered for the good rather than the bad.

C'mon folks . . . a little levity. He made extremely popular pop music, he didn't cure cancer. Even the AP is having fun with the story . .

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted "King of Pop" who emerged from childhood superstardom to become the entertainment world's most influential singer and dancer before his life and career deteriorated in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. He was 50.

The person said Jackson died in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

The circumstances of his death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told the newspaper.

Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

His 1982 album "Thriller" — which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" — remains the biggest-selling album of all time, with more than 26 million copies.

He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves, his high-pitched voice punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove and tight, military-style jacket were trademarks second only to his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance.

As years went by, he became an increasingly freakish figure. His skin became lighter and his nose narrower. He surrounded himself with children at his Neverland ranch, often wore a germ mask while traveling and kept a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles as one of his closest companions.

In 2005, he was cleared of charges he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at Neverland in 2003. He had been accused of plying the boy with alcohol and groping him. The case took a fearsome toll on his career and image, and he fell into serious financial trouble.
