What kids care about Michael Jackson's music, let alone know who he is?
My 7 year old nephew who did a performance to his music at school and my 10 year old little cousin who learned most of his dances.

Unless kids these days are way into pop music and not just the flavour of the month, they won't know him unfortunately. So much bad pop nowadays.

God this is depressing. One thing is guaranteed.

This man is going to get one hell of a send off, the cream of the crop from music industry will pay their respects. A testament to this mans genius.

Rest in peace brother :(

I hope someone kills him brutally

the best thing that could happen to perez hilton is for him to fade into obscurity and be remembered as the revolting pig that he is.

Just an assumption I'm making, but I think kids who are musicians/dancers and have an appreciation for his music/art will be affected by this more than your average kids. My brother and his friend are both dancers, and I first heard the news from a musician at a music seminar.

There are enough young kids who like MJ's work because his music is timeless and very universal.

His songs will never get old.

And Perez is a dipshit.

And im sure the stars kids follow these days were inspired by MJ. So its full circle.

Great loss for music. :(

wow, time of death 2:26PM. Declared deceased around 2:30PM.

This was around page 1 or 2 of this thread.

People are saying on this ABC show that he was "truly healthy", yet every guest on CNN talked about his poor health. WTF?

Fair enough, but I can't imagine children mourning his death.

I was 13 when Princess Di died and to me it was just "a famous person died, oh well".

I was 11, and still remember that day. I knew of her, but nothing more. Watching all the news reports, and the way my parents seemed to react to her death sticks out.

Michael Jackson is CERTAINLY more known than princess Di, and I think kids will remember tomorrow when they're older.

I was at work when news broke; I was watching it on a CNN broadcast in the Rogers cable centre attached to my store.

A little girl, no more than 6 years old walked over with her father, and pointed/exclaimed, "Who's that daddy?" as concert footage of MJ played. The father said "That's Michael Jackson", and his face just dropped as he read the headline at the bottom. The whole generational dichotomy of MJ awareness captured in one brief instant for me. Really tore me up inside. I'd always poke fun at old celebrities dying that I knew nothing about grewing up; kills me that kids would mock this now.

Live and learn I guess...

RIP Mike.

An often forgotten Michael Jackson work. Say what you want about the movie itself but thinking about this really puts a smile on my face.

do you have any idea the emotional impact his songs have had over the years for people?

my parents first dance was to a michael jackson song. i would not be surprised if there were hundreds of thousands more people who have that same experience.

EDIT: oh wait, the rest of GAF already has this covered

Man, if I were an entertainer and some couple came up and told me their first dance was to one of my songs I can't even imagine the feeling of joy and honor that would give me.

I just got back home, when I left it was still uncertain that he died. I don't think anyone could have predicted this. I think right now he is mostly remembered for his bizarre personal life and insane plastic surgeries, but as the decades pass people will once again best remember him for his music.

It's kinda chilling...

According to my sister, a publicist of MJ's, who was with him from like the J5 Days, til like Thriller, said that MJ said "He'd be dead by 40".

If true...he was only off by a mere decade.

He's half right though. You have to admit.

Not many kids under 17-18 are gonna know the significance of this.

Well, I'm 20 and trust me, plenty of my friends' that are around my age Facebook status and Twitter feeds indicate that they definitely realize the significance of this :(

Not representative of the general populace, but still, it's not like it's passing over all of our heads.

I did not even know about this news until this thread

many hours ago someone has been blasting MJ songs non-stop at the park near my window so I went near my window to listen to how good some of those songs still sound not knowing anything about this news. This sucks

R.I.P.

Anybody but me going on a Michael Jackson mp3 download spree? My Zune's filling up with his stuff. I'd almost forgotten how great he was. He'll be missed. :(

It's crazy how well his music still holds up. There's not many artists or bands out there you can say that about. MJ's music is definitely timeless though.

Man, even my dad was taken back with this news. Look here i am in my 20s and my dad in his 50s.... generations apart and still feel the same sense of loss.
