How big was MJ to a young child in the 80s?

Well, I was born in 1980, during the Reagan administration.

In 1983, I knew who Michael Jackson was. But if you were to ask me who Ronald Reagan was I would have probably thought we were going to McDonalds.

I was also born in the 80's, Micheal was huge, Easily the biggest music sensation since Elvis.

:lol I love when people say things like this. There are people out there that cry their faces off in the presence of some celebs. Not because they are celebrities, but because they were affected by them in some way. This is nothing new. Heres a gif with a crowd reaction to Michael Jackson:

You think that chubby guy in the front is thinking "whatever I didnt even know him" right now? Give me a break. I feel more embarrassed for you because you cant grasp such a simple concept.
I was witness to the Princess Diana fiasco in the UK.

That shit was fucked up. People were in floods of tears just because other people were.

You can bet the people who will end up curing cancer won't get half the media attention when they die. But hey that's Humanity. If a famous, weird singer with a dubious private life dies, that's Earth shattering.

So many moments in lots of people lives can be associated with music, lots of them with songs from Micheal Jackson. Not that hard concept to grasp. We don't only mourn the person, we mourn the music and the feelings we remember it by.

Is it weird 3(4????) famous people dying so close to each other? It's like even Steve Irwin and Peter Brock died close to each other.

The recently added VidZone Michael Jackson playlist is now running on my PS3 in an attempt to pretend this is not happening.

Sad day :(

Yeah, but the music ain't dead.

Man everytime the guy walked out of his house there were dozens of paparazzi hounding... :/ people treated him like a freak show. Thriller remains the best pop album ever.

R.I.P

oh and I still can not do to moon walk :)

The Victory Tour was the first concert I ever saw.

I've always been a fan.

I hope they do something nice with his last recordings.

I saw that tour at the Houston Astrodome. I think I still have the T-shirt from the show.

Damn I'm fucking tearing up here man as my childhood memories rushes by me watching MTV right now. RIP Michael, hope you're in a better place right now.

It's supposed to happen in threes, McMahon, Fawcett, Jackson... Jeff Goldblum was not supposed to die! :-(

Whatever man. This is not a time to argue about whatever you're on about. Let those who actually think this an important event worth noticing and thinking about do so and let them be.

Cool. I saw it in Dallas.

I don't have the shirt anymore, but I still have the socks. Well, my sister stole them from me.
