RT has no reviews yet, gaffer impressions can go here.

Also no spoilers? I guess.

IM THERE DAY ONE!

I hope I'm not the first post because I got nothing clever to say but the original Robocop is one of the best action movies ever.

I predict it's going to be shit and utterly devoid of the satirical nuance that made the original film great. Just a prediction.

Total Recall remake didn't utterly suck, but that had better actors involved which sort of helped my enjoyement of it. Still that remake was really unneeded as Verhoeven's films hold up really well over the years.

Robocop was a great movie, great moral dillema's, apocalyptic undertone, glimmer of hope in the horizon, just perfect. I just can't see this movie even remotely nearing the quality of the original and the trailers have all but confirmed this is much more "Brainless Action Movie" than the original, which is exactly what it doesn't need.

To close, Honest Trailer - Robocop

I just caught it.
It's a completely different film from the original. It's an alright film if you've never seen the original, but it just doesn't stack up.

Great OT! I was waiting for someone to made one like this. So impression can be posted here? I watched it last Saturday and only bothered to comment in the "Movies I've seen recently" thread. So here what was I thought and added some new ones:

I watched Robocop yesterday (why they launched this movie in South East Asia first?). I just wanted to say Robocop fans really need to keep their hype checked as the storytelling and action scenes are not as good as the original. Maybe the original Robocop was a huge legacy to be carried with but even when I went into the cinema pretending the OG Robocop never existed, the overall cinematic experience was underwhelming as I barely sympathized with Alex Murphy/Robocop, the villains were not as menacing as the classic Clarence Boddicker, and the ending was just anticlimatic. If somebody has suggested in previous Robocop threads that Robocop shouldn't be rebooted, you're absolutely right about it. The movie tried to be another Iron Man/Batman Begins clone while borrowing elements from OG Robocop but this approach has made the story really predictable and occasionally dragging the movie pacing.

More on the action scenes, every action scenes in OG Robocop was so memorable. The reboot featured nothing of what made the OG Robocop great and all of the action scenes sparked nothing of creativity or inspiration. I even found it lack of actions really because most of the movie time was spending on the building and psychoanalysis of Robocop, which really wasn't needed because OG Robocop did it in a very subtle way while the reboot has to tell every single details about new Robocop's psyche to the audience. The film immediately reminded me of that it tried to mimic the formula of Batman Begins but it just didn't work. Oh yeah, shaky cams abound.

Music: Yep, original theme was remixed and used twice I think but the main riff of the original theme only appeared about 5 seconds or so. I waited for the original theme to be played again at the end of the film but I didn't get any of it, though I only stayed for a minute but I just couldn't bear with the new theme (very technorock, not to my liking).

To give credits to this new Robocop, it's a better movie than Man of Steel but having said so, MOS isn't a great movie to begin with. The cast of new Robocop delivered good performances especially from those veterans like Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldmand, and Micheal Keaton. I also thought Joel Kinnaman gave a good different portrayal of Murphy/Robocop. All in all, it's a good 7/10 pop corn movie that will leave a Robocop fan reminiscing how good was the OG Robocop.

To enjoy the reboot, you'll need to do this:

1. Keep your hype checked!
2. To do number 1, you have to pretend original robocop never existed.

Thank you Shroddycat for your impression! I was hoping you'd post it in here next :)

In fact it's also why I wanted to post the OT

that and cause i'm like the BIGGEST Robo fan

how did the original robocop movie ever get to this

in the first place? TBH after the series (and robocop 3), I don't think we can ever have expected a reboot to be like the first movie.

In the UK, this is a 12A certificate, meaning I can take my 9 year old to watch it. smh

I had a robocop costume as a kid. Used to think the helmet was so boss. I never even saw any of the movies. I think I might have seen the cartoon on TV?

I'm going to see it this week.

I'm expecting it to be the worst thing ever, so I can only be pleasantly surprised.

No I don't remember the helmet looking like that and I think the armor looked more like the actual thing. But I was super little at the time so I could just be remembering wrong.

could've been a Halloween costume.

I remember having a cheap latex joker costume around 89

Eh. Looks like a fun romp. I'm in. Haters gonna hate.

Man I really hate that fucking phrase. just because some people can actually use their critical faculties regarding a film does'nt mean their a hater. The film looks bad. Everything we know about it leads us to believe it will be bad. Turn your brain on.

I have very low expectation when i heard that new Robocop is PG 13.
I think i'll watch it just for the hell of it.

I remember nothing from the TV show except Pudface Morgan, somehow thinking he was Emil after the events of the first movie when I was a kid.

Well, I've never seen Prime Directives, so with the new film coming out soon, I think now is as good of a time as any to see it.

Robocop is my number 1 film of all time. Dont know how I feel about the remake, im excited for it but also worried. Plus he looks crap in the black 'tactical' look.

Still day one though.

I saw the original just last night. it was brutal. We don't see movies like this anymore. All I saw from the reboot was souless plastic and cgi.
