Rock Band 2 IGN interview -- Timed exclusive for Xbox 360

What company do yall think will support the old instruments the longest? The answer to this question will determine my purchase. I only need one set of fisher price toys. I have a feeling RB is more reliable in this guard.

There is only one answer to this: Rock Band. They're only one that has full backwards compatibilty with DLC. No matter how badly they fucked Europe with Rock Band 1, this makes up for, like, A LOT!

While i will buy this (the disc not the box set) I think guitar hero is going to stop the shit out of rockband in terms of userbase when it's all said and done. They should have skipped rockband 1 on the wii and made the second ready to launch along side the 360/ps3 versions. No timed exclusive bullshit either.

The return of the king. Oh how sweet it'll be.

*flips off Activision*

Guitar Hero 4 still looks like it's going to be better than Rock Band 2 until Harmonix announces stuff like a music creator and bass career mode (and GH4 has the better drum set).

I don't own Rock Band but it seems that the franchise has been managed pretty poorly recently
-Botched Euro release
-Wii version
-RB2 not coming out at the same time for all consoles

xbox 360, the home of the timed exclusive, dont make it fully exclusive, make it timed, MS never has full exclusives, they only have timed, they save money and ppl get more games

I call this in to dispute.

On paper it sure seems it. Wireless. More realistic set up. But at the same time I dunno how many people really give a shit about a wireless object that's mostly static, and that drum set-up looks somewhat intimidating to have SIX things to hit, crossing arms etc. whereas the RB set is definitely much friendlier for casuals and people who just want to "hit shit".

Velocity sensing really matters very little in the grand scheme of following charts on a screen.

Yeah, it's almost like a real drumset. That sucks.

...

GH4 has the better drum set? Wow. IIRC the only persons I've heard using that statement was from the people at Neversoft, so I'll take that with a grain of salt. Especially since they claimed their GH3-guitar was the best thing EVAR.

Dude, really... do I have to explain any further?

Sorry, but what you said doesn't make much sense.

People aren't that dumb. It's not going to look OMFG SO COMPLICATED to them over Rock Band.

.. Uh, the GH3 guitar is the best guitar in the series, and much better than the crappy Rock Band guitar.

Rock band is awesome but I love drumming and the (on paper) better drumset, drum solos (hopefully they'll be in Rock band 2) and music creator has me more excited than what they've shown for Rock Band 2. Though the announced DLC from Rock Band will likely blow GHWT's DLC out of the water.

I said "more intimidating" and "less friendly".

It's like two posts up, guy.

I would take the Rock Band guitar over the GH3 one in a heartbeat if it had a click strum bar. It's the only thing going for it.

what have they shown for rock band 2?

The game coming out for the 360 first seems like that versions development being further along. They need to get out and on shelves whatever they can before Guitar Hero 4.

As a PS3 owner with a RB play list of 204 I am not happy with that. But the DLC will easily keep me rockin away

So that's why I had several different Guitar Hero 3 guitars brake on me, both in terms of the neck detaching from the body and the red fret not registering. It's because it's the best on in the series. Funny how the GH1&2 guitars did not do that. I prefer my instruments intact, don't know about you...

This game genre is such a cluster fuck, especially for PS3 owners. I'm sure RB2 will be out in time for Christmas, but GHWT looks better in many ways...there are too many variables!

Yup, it's headed for self destruction pretty soon if somebody doesn't fucking man up and figure shit out.

Harmonix is falling apart with this release. It seems to be a rush job to compete with Guitar Hero.

What could they possibly expand on if it's not going to include a music creation tool? More instruments? Seems too soon for a game that will be in development less than a year.

GHWT will sell better, but this will without a doubt play better. I'll get the bundle of this and get GHWT disc only.

Anyone up for a ban bet that this hits PS3 by Christmas?

So you're saying out in December?

There is no way its coming that late, It will be out in November at the latest. The situation can obviously change and they'd bump it up, since they were pretty vague. But definitely no later than Nov

Why does everyone think that this music creation tool is going to be the most amazing thing ever? If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't allow vocals. Therefore you're just playing a bunch of fan-make instrumentals and leaving your vocalist to have nothing to do.

I'd much rather have a Harmonix/Neversoft chart made to a master rather than have to sift through dozens and possibly hundreds of absolute shit tracks to find that one gem. Imagine if they make achievements related to the music creation tool.

I'd also rather they make it its own game. I'm sure they're working on an MTV Music Generator 2.0 compatible with Rock Band instruments.

No, nice try though.:lol

I'm saying it'll be out by December. I guess I'm not really going out on much of a limb.

why would you need a bundle for this if you have RB1?

I am doing the opposite bundle for gh and disc only rb2, as long as the gh guitar still works on it.

Is a good holiday to be a music game fan.

I know I've already said this, but if you listen to the latest 1up podcast, they talk all about it. Garnett's description of it and the discussion sounded pretty amazing.

Well, it is progress. You act like these games won't have complete song lists.

What I want to know is how RB2 will be more than just a song pack. A music creator won't be the thing to differentiate it, so what will? Backup vocals (please let it happen!), 2 guitars at the same time?

They've lost a bundle sell if there is more than a months difference in release time between the 360 and the PS3's. I bought GH3 and was happy with that until my cousin got Rock Band over Christmas. I've spent over $80 on songs for it, maybe more and had decided I was going to wait on buying the Rock Band bundle until 2 was out. But if Guitar Hero 4 is any count I won't wait for them if they want to be fucking gay and screw us over just because MS loves to toss money at people. Most likely won't buy a single piece of DLC from here on out either since it is like a dead investment until I find out more on the situation.

For starters, I'd love a scenario addressing albums. A "career mode" involving full albums, a recording studio setting, and record deals, billboard charts, etc, would be totally awesome and worth an upgrade.

How is buying DLC now a dead investment? It'll still work, and even RB2 DLC will work with RB1. Keep buying songs you want. It's not like they're magically going to stop working, and they'll still be "supporting" RB1 after RB2 is out.
