Rock Band 2 IGN interview -- Timed exclusive for Xbox 360

XShagrath said:
How is buying DLC now a dead investment? It'll still work, and even RB2 DLC will work with RB1. Keep buying songs you want. It's not like they're magically going to stop working, and they'll still be "supporting" RB1 after RB2 is out.

Did you even read my post? My cousin is the one who owns RB1 and I have been buying DLC on that machine to use with RB2 since I decided to wait for it instead of buying RB1 because I already had GH3. If GHIV is coming before RB2 it seems pointless for me to care about RB2 since they are throwing us PS3 owners the shaft by releasing on 360 as an exclusive for a period of time. Therefore I will just save the money they would have got from DLC and buy GHIV and just say fuck Harmonix and RB2.

I really don't see the point in saying "Screw having to wait an extra couple weeks for a game with 300 songs and weekly DLC, I'm going to spend all my money on a game with less than a hundred songs and monthly DLC, that'll show em!"

:lol

I'm pretty irked about being shafted but the writing was on the wall. I'll have enough games to play in the meantime, though, RB2 will just have to be dessert instead of the main course this Fall

:lol

If those people really aren't going to wait to really compare the games evenly, it really doesn't make much sense. I get why people would prefer GH over RB, absolutely. But making an investment in RB and even enjoying it more, but then abandoning it because of a few weeks, especially considering the investment involved, yeah, that seems a little extreme. Especially when a plausible technical reason has been given.

Again, all excitement about Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour is completely on hold until I find out about the compatibility between the hardware in the two games.

If GHWT hardware is compatible with RB/RB2, I will trade in my Rock Band hardware (drums, mic, guitar) and wait for GHWT.

If GHWT hardware is not compatible with RB/RB2, I will keep my GH3 guitars (and my GH2 Xplorer) and the RB hardware and pass on GHWT. (I have the 360 version so GH guitars work with RB.)

That is the current outlook on things from my camp. Anyone agree?

What if their timed exclusive puts the 360 version out in September and the PS3 version out in Mid-October, before GH:WT? I'm sure they're going to try their best to get both versions out before October 27th. But if they can't, why should they sit on the version that's done, as others have said.

If that's the truth, sure, whatever. But the fact they allowed time exclusive in Europe on a platform tells you that they are willing to do it. I haven't read anything suggest what you said is the fact. Their wording in IGN article can be read multiple ways.

Edit: and for the record, I don't really care about the wait personally.

I'd bet there are tons of people awaiting that info and that's probably why I'd guess they're not going to make your decision any easier by providing any compatibility between RB and GH that doesn't already exist.

(Speaking of, will the GHII Xplorers still work in GHWT?)

Will we be able to carry over our band? I don't want to have to build our logo all over again.

All I really want is my character should be able to play whatever instrement they want. None of this locked on guitar forever shit.

Yes please.

I'm very excited for this game already, luckily I still have tons to do in Rock Band so I can wait. :)

Edit: Oh man, I got to the end of the interview and noticed the guy was Australia. They should have asked him why his fellow countrymen cannot play the game.

Yeah, and he asks IGN 'Don't you like Australians?'. It is like Harmonix/EA should be the ones having that question asked of them! As Rock Band 2 is just announced and Australia still has no idea on what is going on with the first and now the second version of the game.

Personally I think they should just give Australia the Rock Band 2 bundle and release just the disc of Rock Band 1 alongside but available separately, or just release the songs on that as DLC (along with current DLC such as "More Than A Feeling', etc)

I hope they just release a guitar/game bundle cause I like the new look of the new guitar, but really dont want to buy a set of instruments again

This guitar is very pretty. I'm glad I didn't pick up the Wireless RB1 guitar now.

I'll probably pick up Rock Band 2 and the guitar by itself. I don't play the drums. My friend that plays the drums will probably pick those up. If it's cheaper to split a bundle, he'll pay for the drum portion and I'll pay for the rest.

The crazy thing is, for those few weeks, Harmonix will of course still provide them with new DLC, and that DLC will work with Rock Band 1. And then when Rock Band 2 does finally arrive a few weeks later, they'll have all that DLC compatible with both. How terrible!

Even if I didn't have RB1 I'd still be hesitant to pick up GH4. I do like the looks of the GH drum set (drums being my favorite RB instrument) but I don't have much faith in activision. They've already said they want to release 4-5 GHs a year and their DLC track record isn't to hot.

On the other hand Harmonix has been very consistent with their DLC and haven't tried shitting out multiple versions of Rock Band. For these reasons I feel RB2 is a much smarter investment.

Very true.

It isn't out here in the Netherlands as well.. I just imported it and I'm playing with my GH2 guitar :D

Again, Harmonix has chosen to fuck over everyone who does not own a 360! I noticed some people saying "wait" a few weeks. Well if youre a Wii owner you better sit tight because it took them a full 7 months to release it for that platform and then gimped the hell out of it. No online, no created characters, no DLC. Even GH3 and GH: Aerosmith have online. What the hell gives there? Guitar Hero World Tour will be available for everyone day one on ALL platforms. Without gimping any version of the game.

Harmonix just screwed the pooch on this one IMO...

To the people who continue to blame Harmonix: how many 360-PS3 multiplatform games have inferior PS3 versions, how many have PS3 versions that are delayed?

Instead of the same angry "lazy developers" and "MS moneyhats" responses every time, perhaps you need to apply both "Economics 101" and "Occam's Razor" to the situation...

Yep. And it's not like this is an "all things being equal" situation here. Depending on preference there are plenty of reasons to pick RB or GH and to shut one down just because of a release date regardless of what you're personal preference might be (and, let's be honest, in order for someone to be able to say "Fuck this! GH it is!" they must have been preferential towards RB or that stance makes no sense) seems off to me.

I love how we assume this is Harmonix's fault.
Doesnt need to be, it can be full blown money hates, its still timed.

And how did I assume it was Harmonix fault? I bought RB on day 1, and looked forward to RB2, but not when a multiplatform genre like this gets timed.

Ill enjoy playing RB1 DLC that still will be released, and them will import the game from US later for PS3. Only prob is i dont have a creditcard, but do have paypal, so ill need to hunt down a site that lets me import with paypal -_-

Wow, why is this thread so negative? I mean you people dish out 2 dollars per DLC song, and if this is anything it will be at the absolute very least (though it will definitely be a whole lot more) be a collection of songs cheaper than 2 dollars per.

So what reason could all the negativity possibly be? PS3 fanboys?

I guess it is a matter of taste. I don't mind guitar hero, but I will be staying with the RB franchise. I don't like the way Activision handles the franchise (ex. GH Aerosmith, Metallica, etc.). I also prefer the note tracking and the graphics in RB.

it's all from PS3 only owners. which is warranted IMO but at this point are PS3 only owners really this surprised? REALLY? this has been happening for a very long time especially from EA. (favoring the 360 over other platforms)

and to backup EA for a second they probably looked at Rock Band sales data in the US and saw that the 360 took up a large majority and said fuck it.

Hopefully the PS3 version comes out before GH4. They have a whole month.

Meh, I'll just hold out for RB2 on the PS3 because I've already made a sizable investment in DLC. Besides, there will be plenty of awesome games to play while I wait!

Yeah, just to kind of echo what some other people have said: Harmonix is better than Activision period. They don't whore out the franchise, the DLC is going to keep working with the new release, and they've actually worked very hard on keeping their promises with DLC.

The Guitar Heroes that Harmonix made are still far superior to this day than any of the ones Activision has been responsible for and I have no reason to believe that trend is about to change with the next installment of the two franchises.

I have a PS3 and a 360, I own Rock Band on the 360 because that's what my friends had it on. I feel the pain of the PS3 owners, but don't do anything crazy and swear off Rock Band 2 yet, because all you're going to do is sell yourself short.

Yeah, it's almost like a real drumset. That sucks.

...
The Guitar/bass in these rock video games is fun because it's not a real guitar and it's easily accessible for everyone.

Also, people crying in this thread are ridiculous. It makes the most sense to establish the product as early as possible than to sit on it to have every version done at the same time if they have to compete with Guitar Hero 4. They don't have the same resources and this makes the most sense with what they have.

I think they should be considering Rock Band came out at the same time as the 360 version.

ok this i think has turned my descision this week i was gonna buy rockband on ps3 now i think i might wait for the new guitar hero

I am a PS3 Rock Band player. I'd like to say I'm not disappointed that my version is coming late, but I am. Rock Band was my first music game purchase, and I'm excited for the game that's building upon it.

If MS payed for it, shame on them. They're not doing anything *good* for 360 owners, just hurting non-360 owners. That's just rude.

Is the 120 songs rumor confirmed yet?!

That's what really gets me. I own Rock Band on the PS3, but I'm not crying wolf over the delay. If there was a timed delay on the original, I could understand. But to have the original ship day-and-date on both systems only to have the sequel be timed exclusive a year later? Seems like a bad idea on EA/Harmonix part.

As long as it comes out before Guitar Hero World Tour, I think it'll be fine. Just hope that's the case.

They had no trouble getting RB1 out on 360/PS3 at the same time ....

Okay now, how to I play the 60 songs that came with RB1 on RB2? Will they be available as free DLCto RB1 owners?

RB's DLC is future compatible.. GH's is not. Just pick up RB1 now and play the songs right away and then buy the RB2 disc when that comes out. You're making it sound like GH4 came out before RB1 somehow.

I would hope that I can continue to use my character/band that I've been building up in RB1. My friend and I managed to finally find time to play the Endless Setlist a while ago and now that we just earned those nice shiny platinum icons it would be kind of annoying to have to build a new character from scratch.

Honestly I'm excited for Rock Band 2 but at the same time all this instrument crap is marring my enjoyment of the genre in general. I would just like one set of standard instruments, please. :( I'm not even sure if my drums work right anymore, seems they've lost sensitivity and the last I heard EA has started asking for receipts (and mines well out of the warranty period)

Makes me wonder if I should just wait for the GH:WT and try out those drums or wait for the new and improved RB2 drums....blah.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy, though.
