Rocket League on Switch Cross Platform with Xbox and PC. No PS4 Support

This felt appropriate for the thread, can someone put in Phil, Reggie, and kaz face?

Eh mouse vs controller is bad

Xbox and ps4 wouldn't have that issue...they could just do raid working togethere

Of course Bungie would want this...it would only strengthen the game's community

Is their proof that bungie was going this? Why hasn't Activision done it with COD?

Sony's player base is a significant advantage. If your friends all have PS4s (statistically likely to be true based on sales), then they want you to have to buy a PS4 in order to play with them. If they opened up cross platform play, then I can buy a Xbox and still get the same enjoyment out of playing with my friends. It doesn't make business sense IMO.

Sony doesn't have anything to gain

Yep, this is E3 drama alright.

With me, I personally don't give a shit about this lack of cross-play on this title for a variety of reasons. I do understand the concern of Sony being anti-gamer in this sense because eventually this going to happen with another game that I care about cross-platform play much more.

With that said, I think that this another case of GAF exaggerating how much the public will give a shit, especially if they are multiple console owners.

I didn't even pay for Rocket League on PSN. It was free... the damn game goes on sale all the time on Steam and I'm likely to buy less graphically intensive games all on the Switch anyways.

Someone can't feel like it's a good thing if allowed and a complete non factor if not without being a fucking idiot?

It is what... up to 8 players a match. If they have never had a issue with finding a match now, then how does it negatively affect them.

Friends on other platforms.

Ummm technically, wouldn't there need to be dedicated servers to do this?

rocket league shouldn't have dedicated servers any different than destiny. It just sends a request to a call server, matches ping and matchmaking and joins them together. Same with CoD or any multiplayer P2P game.

Bungie definitely can do it, if they want to.

But once connected P2P connection is what is used.

edit: apparently rocket league uses full dedi's however stance still stands. Bungie could use crossplay no problem even with P2P

Been doing it all gen just no one has been calling them out since everyone has been fucking up. Paid online literally snuck into the e3 ps4 reveal and then psn is still awful and ps+ is worse than ever. BC murdered and then fans laughed at for wanting it. MS and Nintendo are both just scrambling back after their trouncing while Sony has stayed the same and the mall if starting to slip. That said, they still have a shit ton of defacto Japanese exclusives and strong first party.
One of the reasons you won't hear much kickback. I think the majority feel their getting the games they want so crossplay is kinda whatever. Can't really be mad at it, tbh.

This is why I think this is unlikely to change. It's not right and it doesn't help any of us as consumers but power (quite literally) is in their hands unfortunately.

You can't if you're thinking traditional party --> online MP.

lol "a *new*" is there an old remaster somewhere? its still an old game... anyway..

glad that microsoft and nintendo are working together! thats how it should be done. better for the gamer, the bigger the lobby the more value for the player

Yup. Sony will have to say something about this at some point soon.

Not if yall keep the outrage contained on GAF and no one is the media questions it.

I already tweeted Jason about it. We'll see if he sees it or responds. I would hope people who are upset about this would do the same.

But being able to play an updated version of it, including the fact that for a first time play never being able to play it on the previous system isn't bad either. No one has ever complained about getting a remaster of a game especially when it's improved and it seems like a moot point now. Money has never been an issue either so I'm not sure why you are being that up. If you didn't own the 360 version of gears, you aren't likely to just buy it anyways.

The point is that dismissing old games as "why would anyone play that" cones across as pretty insincere when you're constantly remastering your old titles to tug at nostalgia strings. Nobody's saying remasters are bad... but they're not bad because old games aren't bad. So BC isn't as worthless as Jim Ryan was trying to portray it as.

Also if you'd like I can start listing games I didn't play in the past and have paid money for recently. It's not a short list though.

It's a marketing deal. They can't dictate what the dev does.

If Bungie wanted cross play with PC and Xbox they can do it.

When it comes to shooters, crossplay between console and PC isnt going to work because PC players would have an enormous advantage.

Relax guys, we don't know the details. Maybe they asked Sony for unreasonable terms, like licking a turd or bringing TLoU to the Switch. Let's not jump to conclusions.

I will explain again.

This is because PSN is superior to all other networks and has better security rules. Sony is doing this for the players. MS, Nintendo, apple and google better step up their game.

It really doesn't affect me personally because i don't play these games but Sony what are doing? You got family, friends who play on different platforms that wanna play together, Let'em. I see no harm.

This is too bad, feels like they are unwilling to share online spaces with Microsoft. They've said they don't see Switch or PC as direct competition.

They might make an exception for some of these older games like MineCraft and Rocket League if there is enough pushback.

Wouldn't be surprise if there also some work they would have to do to connect the other networks with PSN being PSN.

Didn't Sony buy timed exclusivity for Destiny 2 DLC? Seems like a major stumbling block for cross play.

Yeah, but one strike and one or two crucible maps shouldn't be a massive hurdle to work around, right? I think people would understand that having the option to go into cross-platform matchmaking would remove those from the table unless you're set to PS4 only.
