Rocket League on Switch Cross Platform with Xbox and PC. No PS4 Support

Wow there really is a defense force for everything...

If you are a Sony stockholder, yes, you can be happy with the decisions this major corporation is making.

If, you are not financially invested in Sony, then how is this better for gamers?
If I was a Sony investor I wouldn't too thrilled with a policy that ensures PS4 gets the worst version of Minecraft going forward.

Come on now Sony :/ I really hope Nintendo being cool about this pushes them to open up, I don't particularly care about cross play in Rocket League or Minecraft but this would dramatically improve the chance of stuff like cross play Destiny 2 happening and that would be fucking amazing.

Didn't Sony buy timed exclusivity for Destiny 2 DLC? Seems like a major stumbling block for cross play.

Is this what SFV implements for pc/PS4 play?

I think so. Although with Rocket League, it's so popular on every platform that it doesn't really make sense to implement at this point and I still don't think it would be as easy as pulling up your existing PSN or XBOX live friendlist to invite.

Sony's not stupid enough to talk about that publicly. They really don't want crossplay for some reason, but they don't want to say developers can't do it so they just make it a convoluted process that no one will want to deal with.

The funnier story is Sony offering Psyonix a way to get around the PSN account linking by paying them 7 figures to make up for the PS+ fees they would lose with crossplay support.

What the hell. Is this true?

If this is true then I think it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Wait. Will the total pool of players for the PS4 version (previously cross-play with the PC version) drop once the Switch version comes out (being cross-play with everything else)?

You got a source?

Or is this a Shogmaster situation again?

playing on PC has been amazing as it literally has all platforms. With switch getting rocket league, I could see a huge bump in users across the board.....Xbox users should be pretty happy they now have 3 platforms to pool with.

But why the fuck is Sony at this point not allowing cross platform use.

I wonder if the conditions changed with FFXIV now for xbox one, because it could EASILY be ported to the S and X xbox's. Sony has to now be the sole reason at this point but square keeps saying its Microsoft, which most likely means Sony wants Microsoft to do something they don't want to do.

Sony has more players on PS4 than Xbox one and switch combined times by 2.

Tell me again how they gain from this?
Forget about what Sony has to gain from this. What do you, the fan, the consumer, have to gain from crossplay? A bigger community. You only stand to gain. Why do you care what Sony has to gain? Who cares? They serve you, not the other way around.

Can we stop being fucking idiots. Stop putting soulless corporations before yourself. When did GAF become so defensive of anti-consumerism?

god damn lol

needs "doesn't play with others" caption and a basketball next to the PS4

I think eventually Sony will allow crossplay with consoles but that might not be until PS5 when they need to make you feel like they're on the gamers side again lol

I just want my account and inventory to carry between platforms, this will be the third time starting from scratch again. Although it is fun to play with the new players for a while.

Sony apparently only wants to allow crossplay if they can confirm all accounts connected (Xbox, Steam, Switch, etc) have a PSN account with a paid plus subscription.

You can play against PC players on PS4 today.

That is 100% bullshit.

Yeah, I'm calling fake news until you can back up this claim.

Simple, they don't have "more players on PS4 than Xbox One and Switch combined times by 2".

Unless you're going by the really short-sighted assumption that every PS4 player in the world is playing Rocket League, you'll have to note that last year they did confirm while PS4's playerbase did amass to 42% of all players, in the same interview they stated that Rocket League is selling the fastest on PC and Xbox One's 22% is impressive given they got the game half a year later.

Do they gain anything from it? Debatable, but if your heart desires so, no, I bet Rocket League's playerbase will be fine for a while on PS4 alone even if for some bizarre reason Sony retroactively went and told Psionix to remove PC crossplay.

Do they lose anything from this? Yes, because with one more platform they aren't allowed to be matched under the buckle their cross-interactivity with the Steam version is diminishing as they won't get to play with those if another console player from another platform is in the match, and given while right now we don't have any Switch statistics, it's definitely fair to say they won't be playing with the bigger part of the playerbase thanks to the PC playerbase seeing fast growth and Sony blocking the way.

What? Cross-platform play means that if I want to play Minecraft or Rocket League (or potentially any other game, if this becomes the expected standard) with Sony friends, I don't have to buy a PS4. Meaning a lost sale for Sony.
Like I said it doesn't matter because without a party system made specifically for the game you wouldn't be able play with friends because cross-play means bigger player pool as of right now. So it was already a lost sale if you want to play with friends.

Even if it becomes a "standard" which is not likely because of increased development cost(i.e where they want have a party system which needs to be maintained) among other things.

Manufactures are not likely to ever actively push/advertise cross-play as a feature(Outside being open to it and helping on a project by project basis) because they want you in their ecosystem so standardisation will only come about if some company decides to make a service that does all the heavy lifting.

The amount of silly conspiracy theories that make little sense these days is too damn high!

You really need to show proof of these claims.

Someone can't feel like it's a good thing if allowed and a complete non factor if not without being a fucking idiot?

It is what... up to 8 players a match. If they have never had a issue with finding a match now, then how does it negatively affect them.

This makes no sense because they could just do it with Xbox and PC if that were the case.

Eh mouse vs controller is bad

Xbox and ps4 wouldn't have that issue...they could just do raid working togethere

Of course Bungie would want this...it would only strengthen the game's community
