Rocksmith 2014 announced

So do we know if there will be digital release for Xbox360?
I'm gonna buy xbox just for his game and I have the cable from the previous game.

You can buy the game without the cable for Xbox 360. I doubt there will be a fully digital download for your console though.

The Guitar Hero/Rock Band games really made me interested in learning to play a guitar, but the steep cost of entry kind of makes me leery of it. Are these games good introductions to get you started on it, more for intermediate, or not good at all for teaching?

They're a good complement to learning how to play. You will need to combine it with something else though, like Justin Guitar. A real-life tutor is of course even better.

Wow that's cool.

So these games give you a cable to hook up a guitar to so you can play them, which is great, but it leads to the next beginner question, in a good instrument to pick up to start.

RL tutors are of course better, but if you're like me and live in a real rural area, it's up to you to "self-teach" as much possible. Running into that with Japanese as well.

For the original game, there was a bundle with a guitar. I don't know how good it was. For playing Rocksmith you don't need anything special or fancy. As long as neck is straight it should work fine. Do you have any family or friends that own a guitar? Borrowing one might be a good start. Otherwise I'd just visit a music store and buy an entry level guitar.

This plus OK computer..... Okay I think it is time to bust out that old guitar....

So... I've just got back from Eurogamer... Interesting Rocksmith related news... I've seen the rest of the setlist. It's pretty good... But I'm not leaking it. I will, however, confirm some leaks.

The songs "Machinehead" By Bush and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police are on disc.

Rush and Deftness ARE on disc too. "My Own Summer (Shove it)" and "Spirit Of The Radio" to be exact. That's all.you're getting. You guys can be patient! :P

My current PC setup: 40 inch 120 hz led TV as a monitor via HDMI, second 23 inch LCD via dvi. Audio is a standard PC speaker setup through a normal cable. Should I expect lag?

I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar. Several years back, I bought an acoustic Alvarez and tried to fool around with it (funny story about that guitar and the girl I promise to one day sing to. Abridged version: she moved away and I have the guitar to her as a going away gift). Recently, I've been talking to my wife about picking it up again. I just started looking into Rocksmith tonight and plan on preordering the guitar bundle tomorrow after work. It looks awesome. Now that I am older and have more patience , I'm ready to give the guitar a genuine try.

Pretty cool stuff.

Good luck! Just be patient, if you play a little bit every day you will improve a lot, persistence is the most important part, but the good thing is that with Rocksmith the process to learn is fun.

There is always going to be some lag, but if you don't use the hdmi for sound it should be ok... i mean, it depends of your sensibility, to me playing in the TV (video and audio with hdmi) has a bit too much of lag, but not in the pc.

But a guitarist friend checking the game in my house though that that the latency was too big even with the pc setup.

If 2014 allows the same config tweaks as the first one you'll be able to eliminate perceptible lag on that set up.

Been watching a lot of the footage and it's much easier to read now. The new presentation for slides and tremolos gives you a much better idea of exactly what you should be doing. Really looking forward to picking this up.

Thanks! My wife and I actually went to Guitar Center today to check out guitars. I can't wait to show the guitar I'm picking up later this week :)

I'm going to downgrade my preorder to just the reg. edition with the connection cord.

For those who don't have the first Rocksmith, Best Buy had it one sale today for $9.99(just need to be a rewards member). I jumped on it so I could just buy the Rocksmith 2014 disc only version. Also, I wanted gain access to all of the tracks from the first Rocksmith game and play it in the 2014 version.

Players already owning the previous version of Rocksmith (released in 2011) will be able to further enjoy their rock experience in Rocksmith 2014 Edition by importing the songs that were included in the first version (an extra cost will apply). Each song from the first version has been revamped to support all of the new features including Automatic Tone Switching, Articulation, Timing and Instant Riff Repeater. Additionally, the DLC bought for Rocksmith will be compatible with Rocksmith 2014 Edition at no extra cost.

I was under the impression that the update from Rocksmith 2011 was going to be free, silly me.

Anyway... can't wait.

Expected this to be out by now, hopefully it drops in Australia soon. Looking forward to importing the RS1 tracks if this interface is better.

Anyone have a rough idea how much this 'small fee' is for importing the original songs?

^I wasn't able to. When I purchased last Thursday, I was given the Install button but it did nothing when I pressed it and now it no longer shows up

So just to confirm, if I bought the 360 version with the cable, the cable will also work on PC? Considering picking up both the original and 2014 when they inevitably hit Steam sale price territory.

I'm really interested in this, as I started playing my guitars again a little this year. I'll have to get the PC version (still waiting on a Steam sale of the original PC version) as unfortunately I found the lag in the PS3 version of the original game to be atrocious, and the game as a whole was buggy as hell, it crashed way too often, loading times were awful. Real shame as on paper it showed so much promise.

The Jam mode does look really interesting. I guess I'll really have to get an a/b/y box so I can play through the amp, which should alleviate most of the lag the original gave me.

Yep the cable works.

I bought the 360 version for super cheap a while back so I could use the cable with my PC.

can someone recommend a cheap guitar on amazon that is compatible with the pc version(s) of Rocksmith? I'd really like to get into this game and "learn" guitar with it

edit: preferably one that works on both ps3 and pc

I liked the original game but found it annoying for a while because I had issues reading the tab like thingies because my guitar teacher back in the day was a big sheet music affecionado -- which means I'm used to sight reading that instead of tabs. Although I honestly rarely read music beyond a lead sheet at this point which might be another reason why I had issues. I tended to figure out the songs by ear fairly quickly, especially the riff based stuff so it wasn't too big of a deal, besides half of the notes being missing for the first 4 or 5 run throughs. I do hope they offer some sort of support for asio recording interfaces though since I'd love to use that instead of the real tone cable, the latency would be so much better. I also found a lot of the amp tones to be lackluster - but again I'm spoiled by experience most likely and considering I learned how to play on a 99$ 15 watt roland amp that had 3 settings (shit, shittier and shittiest) I'd say they are fine for beginners.

The one thing that saddens me about rocksmith is that it teaches you no music theory at all(besides running up and down the scales in position 1) and has so little space for improvisation. I honestly think the biggest improvement in my guitar playing - after basic playing skills - came from developing an understanding for the theory involved. So I hope Rocksmith 2014 atleast makes some sort of half hearted effort.

All guitars are compatible as long as they're electric.

That really depends on the style of music you like and want to learn how to play, but you can pick up cheap squire Strats and Teles, likewise relatively cheap epiphone gibson style guitars, or go for a metal type Washburn or Ibanez, both do cheaper versions of their instruments. Really your best bet is to go to a guitar shop and have a look around, as a lot of the decision making in choosing a guitar is finding one that you feel comfortable playing.

A cheap squire tele could be good as a starter (rock, blues and country, the tele is a jack of all trades), I've still got a beat up old squire tele along with an Ibanez RG450 that I started learning out on years ago, but both have been completely re-wired with DiMarzio pickups, and the Ibanez got a new floyd rose bridge fitted as well as a kill switch. Basically even a hunk of junk can be set up and modified to be a solid instrument.
