Rooster Teeth's Monty Oum has passed away

I'd been seeing this girl for a month now and just last night she was showing me some of RT's more unique videos, a lot of them featured Monty. Hilarious guy.. Really sad to hear this news.

WHAT!!!!!!!!! NO WAY!
Nonononono omg no.....dude what!
He was so talented. I have all his old videos. What?! This is so terrible. Condolences to his family. Terrible news.

Damn shame. Hearing about it I just assumed he'd pull through, but goes to show fragile a life really is. RIP and wish the people at Rooster Teeth the best.

RWBY was his baby, and so I'm glad he got the chance to see it made. Will always be bittersweet watching it now.
He liked Kingdom Hearts so much that he interrupted the E3 podcast to report KH3's reveal, just seconds after it was announced at Sony's conference. The fact that he never got to experience something he was really excited for freaking sucks.

May he live on in our hearts!

I never knew Monty personally, but reading all of the things people say about how he was as a person has just been really inspiring to me on so many levels. I get the sense that he's someone who truly had a love for what he did, and it shines all the brighter when I remember how much I used to love his Haloid and Dead Fantasy videos. As someone who really wants to create... it feels like something I could learn from, something a lot of people could learn from. The fact that such a talented voice died so young is tragic on so many levels, and in spite of that he continues to inspire.

It feels like such a wake up call on so many levels. In spite of dying at such a young age he managed to inspire so many people within that time, and these news come as a grim reminder that you might never get the chance if you don't act, and that time runs out before you realize.

It comes to show that if you were ever inspired to create, don't sit idly on it. Share your vision with the world. That's what Monty did, and the amount of positivity he emitted with it is nothing but admirable. I never knew him personally, but he sounds like he was a fantastic person, and the amount of support he's received makes this so much more of a heartbreaker. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I kinda hope there's no RT podcast this week. As much as I believe Monty would want the show to go on (he definitely seemed like that type of guy), I imagine it's all still far too raw for them to be producing any content. Hope everyone there takes the time for themselves that they need.

Wow, this is so sad. May he Rest in Peace. I was first introduced to his work on Gamtrailers with Haloid and was a fan ever since. Will truly miss his work.

WOW, this really hits hard for me as my family and I recently found out that my cousin had an allergic reaction to peanuts. He's okay, thank god, but it just shows you how deadly these kinda things are. In any case, i'll always remember Monty Oum for dead fantasy, I just remember seeing those videos on youtube one day and just love them ; just thought they were so awesome.

Wow, I remember a long time ago when I discoverd Dead Fantasy on GameTrailers, what great videos... and just recently I started to watch RWBY (without knowing who was behind) and immediately recognized his style.. RIP

Because Rooster Teeth is loading very slowly right now, here's a screencap:

Fuck, I haven't kept up with his more recent stuff, but I loved his CG animations of video game characters fighting eachother back when he made those.

Damn, you always have to sign off on stuff like this before medical surgeries but you never expect that it will actually happen to you. RIP.

i have no idea who he is but seeing the reaction he must've been good at whatever he did. Glad his family was supported incredibly well by the fans these last days.

Rest in Peace

From what I gathered from over the years was that Monty was the hardest working person any one at Roosterteeth ever worked with. Working 24/7. He was 100% dedicated to his work.. This is a real shame RIP Monty.

I really wonder what exactly caused the reaction..

I am heartbroken. It's wild how following someones work makes you feel connected with them as a person. Stacked on top of Rooster Teeth's transparency and community outreach, they and he always made you feel like friends and family. My condolences to loved ones and his widow.

I was very lucky to meet him in 2011 at RTX. Truly humble and good spirited. Watching some of the behind the scenes stuff really shows his dedication and passion in his work, to the level of near obsession. I believe he even had an augmented sleeping pattern.

(repost from Off-Topic thread)

I don't really know who he was but it sounds like he was a great guy. RIP dude.
My condolences to all his family and friends. :(

For those of you who are unfamiliar with his work...

He did all that BY HIMSELF, self taught, just cause he was bored. Monty was an independent legend and should be remembered as that

Also, i just have to say that some of the videos posted on youtube after the news was broken are absolutely fucking disgusting and should be mocked appropriately. Better yet, don't give these fucking pieces of shit any time of day, because they know they are just attention seeking losers who just want a reaction out of people. They don't deserve the hits.

What is this about?

I met Monte one time at Anime Los Angeles. I remember thinking that if my indie game studio ever expanded to be large enough, I would really, REALLY want to hire him. Talented, hardworking, bright, kind.

Now, I'll never get that chance, and it makes me really, really sad. Gonna watch some DF today.

Fucking hell, even though the initial update sounded really bad, I wasn't expecting to hear this news. I feel awful for his family, such a sudden way to go.

There's really no good way to go but even though it was painless that's just random chance. Stuff like that isn't fair, y'know. It's so disappointing he won't get to play KH3 or finish his dream project but I'm thankful he got to do what he did already and hopefully people carry on his work. It's something he would've wanted, being able to inspire people. The world lost a good, kind, creative and overall great person today but I'm damn sure he did more than his share in making the world better.

If you wanted to see more of his life work RWBY is now on Netflix. Coincidentally, it went up the same day he passed. I'm sure he would've loved to see it topping the chart like when he freaked out when it topped Crunchyroll.

Instead of moping around the rest of the day like I planned when I heard, I'm gonna decide to do something with it. I'm gonna go draw something. Maybe even color it too. I can't do anything for his family or friends affected but he wouldn't want anyone wasting the precious time in our life. And I'm sure some artwork of any kind in his memory, he'd like that a lot more.

Same. Bernie always says if you want to do something just start doing it. You have 100 bad ideas, and maybe 1 good one, but get that 100 out of the way now. Monty personified that work ethic. He was always just doing it.

In his post he says no need for flowers or cards, just start creating. Between my music and passion for content creating... I guess it's time I just did it.
