Really, Batman Begins and TDK are just two different films. BB is more of a comic book film, the best of its kind. TDK moves past that into the realm of fine drama.

I would definantly refer to it was a crime drama, even still its a comic book movie.

See that's where I disagree. I think TDK was more of the "comic book" movie. BB is very well grounded in reality as far as these types of films go, whereas TDK has a lot of cheese and unbelievability about it. I think that's why I'm so disappointed because it's NOTHING like Batman Begins.

You so crazy

Saw it last night at 3:30 in imax, had my mind blown.

I had high expectations going in, like most people, and TDK absolutely exceeded my expectations to the MAX!

Batman Begins had plenty of cheese. Like pretty much everything having to do with Ra's Al Ghul and the Scarecrow.

umm..when was the last time you watched BB?

It was full of ridiculous stunts and the ending was almost pure hollywood. Everything I've been reading says exactly opposite of your opinion. Still it's cool you have a different opinion, not everyone can agree.

i don't think the first half of the movie dealing with the league of shadows is cheesy at all.

No..but the "League of Shadows" must destroy Gotham for it's own good was.

and the film went from somewhat believeable to bad guy with a evil ray gun plot device. Like I said, still enjoyed the film immensly. Just thought the ending doens't really mesh with the rest of the film.

That entire origin story was very cool, but they had a bit of cheesy pretension going on with a lot of Al Ghul's dialogue in scenes with Bruce Wayne/Batman. It was Obi Wan-Kenobi giving guidance to Luke about the Force and the Dark Side, except that BB is too dark and serious and grounded in reality for it to come off as much other than flowery sayings without much substance.

agree with that.

i thought that all worked very well, even if it was perfunctory "wise man giving advice to his young apprentice" stuff.

I still don't get why people dislike BB. These people need to go back and watch the Burton Batmans, Batman Forever, and Batman and Robin, then come back and tell me that BB is a bad film.

It has flaws, but every piece of cinema does. If you want to be a wormy fault-finding individual who mourns the minor flaws of films rather than celebrating their achievements and the general satisfaction derived from quality entertainment, you're never going to enjoy anything.

was anyone saying they didn't like it? I think people were just saying this one was much better. The overall critical and fan response to BB was extremely positive.

Saw it at midnight.

It's a great movie, probably the best comic book movie ever. There were no 'WOW' moments in it like the training scene in BB. Overall it was the better movie. It's a pretty deep movie, so I'll have to watch it again to fully appreciate it.

Joker was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Every scene with him in it was fantastic. Actually, screw the training scene in BB, Joker alone was the 'WOW' aspect I was looking for. It was surprising to see how violent he was.

Heath really deserves a Oscar nom for this part.

Let me paint you a picture:

Are you a baseball fan?

Have you ever watched a ball game where your team is down by 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th...

There's two outs...

The next batter gets on base after swinging at strike three and a wild pitch...

then, an infield single...then a walk on a very close ball four...., loading the bases.

Then, the next batter is the guy on the team LEAST likely to hit a home run?

And then that guy SMASHES a home run into the seats, winning the game for his team, and creating a PLETHORA of excitement and energy around the entire stadium, getting swamped by his teammates, and everyone is jumping and screaming and lights are flashing everywhere?

Well, that's the kind of excitement watching this movie gave me.

It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

And I swear I'm not spouting hyperbolic fanboy gibberish.

This was really good.

Damn.. can't wait to see this!

How does it compare to Ironman in overall quality? Ironman blew my mind with awesome so it'll be interesting to see how this stacks up. :)

If Nolan isn't there for the third film, they defently need to make a DKR movie instead. Modern day Batman is perfect, so don't soil it. Get Michael Ironside to play Bruce/Batman in the future. That is the one perfect casting decision already.

I just got back from seeing it on IMAX.

It was probably the best movie I've seen in its genre and I'm a huge fan of the genre.

I left the theater really bummed though because of Heath Ledger. He has never been one of my favorite actors but my god his performance as The Joker was out-fucking-standing. He stole every scene he was in. He was psychotic, intelligent, charismatic, but best of all, he was unique and he put a stamp on the character that nobody else will ever touch. It was the best performance I've ever seen of a villain in a comic book movie and nobody comes close. My daughter asked me when we left the theater who they were going to get to play the Joker in future films. My answer to her is - no one. If I were an actor, there's no way in hell I would even try to follow a performance like that because no matter what you do, you will always be compared to Heath Ledger's performance and you will fail miserably.

I still can't get over how great this was. I don't pretend to speak for everyone here, but as someone who used to run around the house with batcapes that my mom made for me out of some cloth she bought, this took everything I remembered loving so much as a child, and wrapped it up in a mature and thematically rich setting, and sealed it with possibly the greatest villain I've ever seen. I can't think of any time I have ever been so thoroughly thrilled with something I was so breathlessly anticipating. Thanks Christopher for making last night likely the greatest movie experience of my life.

By the way...was anyone else drenched in sweat by the end of the movie? I sure was...though I didn't actually notice until the movie ended.

Iron Man beats the shit out of pretty much every other comic book movie, except Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight beats the shit out of both of them. A lot of people have said it, but it really does do TDK a disservice to call it a comic book movie. There's a considerable amount of complexity and depth.

Heretic. Please spoiler your post.
The magic trick should be left to be experienced completely without any spoiling. Had I known anything about it going into the theatre, it would have dulled the impact of it. As it stands, it might be the single most shocking moment in any movie I've ever seen.

Even though that scene wasn't technically the introduction to the character, it's still one of the best entrances I've ever seen.

You know what I'm sick of, by the way?

That bullshit obligatory scene of two kids between the ages of 6 and 10 in the backseat of a car pretending to be superheroes or something, and then the superhero has to fly past the car doing something badass, which leads to an obligatory "whoa" from the kids.
I know exactly what you mean, but I thought it was funnier in this case because Batman almost kills them. If they were just a few cars up, he would have. It's pretty dark (like the rest of the goddamn movie).

I just called my IMAX theater to ask how far in advance I should show up and the answer I heard was "people have showed up 12 hours in advance," so I went "2 hours?" and he repeated, "12 hours in advance."

Theres nothing spoiled there. If someone is that sensitive to information they shouldn't be in this thread in the first place.

This actually has me more excited.

The IMAX at the Mall of Georgia is sold out through Monday. I hope to see it again at some point there, but had to settle for a pretty bad screen at my local cinema. They had the edges of the projection on the fucking curtain for half of the movie.

12 hours is a bit excessive.

Just got back from watching it. So damn good. So many people were watching it at 1:30. Shouldn't they be working? Also all the night show were sold out where I went. Only night show left was at 1 a.m. :lol

I was a little shocked at the sheer number of dressed up freaks. I never see that sort of thing unless I go searching for it, like when I went to that special Tuesday showing of the Lord of the Rings movies back-to-back. It was like a fifteen hour marathon, so of course I expected freaks then.

People are dumb. I preordered tickets last week, strolled into the movie theater, printed my ticket, went and sat down in the theater to wait a mere half hour until the movie played. I actulaly just went early so I didn't have to sit next to anyone or at least if I did, got a good seat.

The good thing about an early morning IMAX movie that you have to preorder is that no one has there cell phone on, no one talks, and everyone there pretty much knows that if they did any of those things, then people will die.

I kind of wish there were more freaks of the dress up sort and not naturally. I wanted to see one person with face paint.

I just want my friends and I to get decent seats. I was figuring 30-45 minutes in advance for a 11 pm Saturday showing. Now I'm not so sure...

Wow. I loved this movie. Its way above any other super hero film I have ever seen. I hated Batman Begins, so I went without any expectations for this movie, so there is no fanboyism here. I really loved it. I'll watch it again.
