Based purely on merit, he should probably win. I'm a huge No Country For Old Men fan, but if Javier Bardem won for his (excellent) portrayal of Anton Chigurh last year, then Ledger should win this time around. I'm hardly saying that Bardem wasn't deserving, since he was my personal pick, but I do think Ledger was better.

Could there be supporting performances from now till the end of the year that could keep him from the win? Sure. But I just don't really see it. Ledger as the Joker was a devastatingly great performance, to the extent that even people who gave negative reviews to the film praised him (with like one exception).

I understand that the film is PG-13 for optimal ticket sales.

The whole bloodlessness thing was distracting, though. For a film that is so keen on showing exactly how brutal the Joker (and Batman) can be, cutting away from the most horrifying scenes is disingenuous.

I'm hoping for an R cut on the DVD/Bluray release.

Me too, I was expecting him to fuck things up the whole time. Definitely was NOT expecting that.
 
If the gangster's face getting up by the Joker was shown, it would be a bit scary.
Just alluding to it is enough.
I was thinking will they show it or not which was good fear.

Me too, exactly my thoughts. Seeing Batman pummeling Joker's face and smashing his head against the window, hits to his head getting harder and harder with nothing to show for it physically really distracted me.

I also want to see this again because in spite of my expectations because it has been extremely good weather here in the netherlands, the theater was fucking packed. I had to sit in the 5th row with my dad sitting 1 seat in front of me because there weren't 2 adjacent seats available!

Still I was sitting right next to the aisle or however u write it, and it kind of sucked having to see the movie from that perspective..but man it was such a great movie :).
 
Saw this for the first time yesterday on the IMAX (IMAX has been consistently sold out). The IMAX Watchmen trailer was definitely better than the one that I'd seen on youtube - really looking forward to it.

TDK was one hell of a comic book movie on one level and an absolutely fantastic movie as a whole. As far as the Batman series is concerned, Harvey Dent/Two-Face is still one of my favorite characters just because he always seemed to be the most human of Batman's Rogues, and Aaron Eckhart definitely delivered. Heath Ledger, of course, was such a joy to watch on-screen as he defined (to me at least) what the Joker represents in Batman's world. Gary Oldman was again, top-notch as Lt./Commissioner Gordon as he made me feel his weariness and frustruations as he continues to fight to clean up the streets of Gotham from behind the badge. Loved the interactions between Michael Caine & Christian Bale - I always loved the Bruce/Batman - Alfred dynamic between the two of them as well as the Bale/Freeman dynamic.

My only gripes would probably be that the film tended to drag in parts, but it did always help the set-up for later scenes as well as Bale's Batman voice. I understand that Batman needs a differentiating voice from Bruce Wayne, but still, I kinda sat there hating the voice he picked to be 'Batman'.

No I live in the real world. When somebody's head is smashed against a highly durable glass that CRACKS, followed by repeated sledgehammer punches to the face - they usually have something to show for it.

Well, I've been smacked head first into glass (that CRACKS! :p) without bleeding, but whatever. I just find people that complain that there isn't enough blood in movie scenes to be annoying.
 
I finally saw it last night, and as everyone has been saying, it was awesome film. Joker FTW.

Oh, and I could care less about blood. Yeah, I guess it would make things more brutal and realistic, but this is a Batman movie, and Dark Knight showed that you don't need an R-rating to make a creepy and powerful action film.

But whatever. I finally know the reasoning of its praise, and I can see why it's making a gazillion dollars at the box office.

In the real world, somebody who has their head cracked so hard would probably fall unconscious, or even die.

Speaking just for myself, I wasn't phased by that scene because I'd been there, done that with Pan's Labyrinth. Desensitization, I fear ):

In a perfect world you'd get that option in the cinema.

I don't get why this stuff makes it more awesome. A movie can be without this kind if stuff - how does it really improve the story?

Moreover, it would have a lesser audience.

Because as others have mentioned it took them out of the moment if only briefly.

The payoff to throwing the Joker around and fucking him up would have been seeing the mess made of his face, for me anyway.

Perhaps it's because I'm a fan of MMA/Boxing and am used to seeing the physical effects of someone that has taken a beating.

Ok Ok, it was a bit weird but you never know :lol

Two more weeks yet, I managed to not seen anything of this movie since the first trailer, no pics, no tv ads, no more videos :D

Maybe if they thought they could taste some of the fumes of THE DARK KNIGHT's success.
 
Well we all know the 2004 Catwoman movie was a disaster. But Jolie was basically the poster-girl for Wanted, and that exceeded expectations quite a bit for a lesser known comic, with an R rating at that. Using her would make a lot of sense if you wanted to give the franchise a "re-do." I'm thinking they might go the same route that Marvel did with The Incredible Hulk.

Seeing as I recall they tried asking for a cameo by Bale as Bateman in both American Psycho 2 and Rules of attraction which he flatly denied I think the man's well best a big pay-check now.
 
I went to go see it a 2nd time at IMAX. 30 minutes in, the image fucks up and starts getting extremely shaky (as if you were drunk). They shut it off, start it back up. Problem continues for ten minutes or so, I told my girlfriend lets go, she agreed. We go to the customer service desk, only about 5 people lined up complaining. We wait ten minutes and the line behind us grows to over 100 people :lol We each got 2 free tickets out of it :)
 
I don't think Nolan has ever heard an interview begin with "the real deal sex appeal":lol :lol he looks like he wants to laguh at how stupid it is



holy shit, Bale wants to rip this guy apart:lol
