This movie...
I saw it in theaters a decade ago and wondering how it's aged. And frankly for the most part, it does a pretty good job. In some ways, it's still pretty amazing. The way it tears apart so many film cliches, Tom Cruise at his most ludicrous, etc. That stuff is still just so strong.
Some of the more outright offensive stuff is mostly played as a joke against Hollywood itself which saves alot of it. It atleast helps elevate it a bit, but there are still some mixed marks once in a while. Also I generally think Jack Black is completely ignorable in this movie. Like by far the worst part. But contrast that with Matthew Mcconaughey throwing a Tivo at a rocket, and the movie largely avoids disaster. I wish they had more to say about the blackface thing, especially considering the recent whitewashing conversations.
Overall, this is still a solidly funny movie. I'm glad I revisited it, despite its warts.
