Rumor: Is Retro Studio teasing their presence at E3?

I still don't get why. Retro made three Prime games and once Rare left Nintendo, Donkey Kong stopped having really good games. You can say Jungle Beat was fun (it was) but it was planned to phase out the entire Kong family. To me, that's Other M levels of bad.

My guess is the kids that grew up with Prime are adults now, and they also grew up when DK was out of his prime.

The hype for that conference was huge. Rumors of a Star Tropics reboot were getting people hyped. It wasn't just metroid that everyone wanted, they wanted to see the Wii U get pushed by its more technically inclined dev.

Can't be improved???

They left a lot of ideas on the table, including utilizing various animal buddies, etc...

Mario can't be improved too so there should not be any more.
Sure new animal buddies can be added but exactly how much more can they do on the Wii U to make it a step up from DKC: TF? TF was one of the greatest 2D platformers I've ever played but releasing a sequel so soon would drag attention away from it. Plus how much more can it be than TF with some new animal buddies? If anything they should just expand on TF with DLC like NSMBU.

Again when I say improved I mean on the same console and this soon after the release of the prior game. And I do believe there should not be any more NSMB games for awhile but that does not mean I don't think they can be improved. All I can really see them doing in any of those games for the time being is add new playable characters/helpers.

It's been 5 years since the last Metroid game (and 8 since the last good one.) Metroid fans are hungry.

It's not that we hate DKC games. They're great. But the wait for Metroid has been much longer, and we're already getting at least 2 2D platforms this Fall (Mario Maker and Yoshi.)

I'm curious. How would people react if a new Metroid game was in development, but not by Retro? And instead they're making a new IP or rebooting another one?

I really hope it's Metroid, but honestly I'll probably be happy with whatever it is, even if it's another Donkey Kong.

And they've even dabbled in the horror genre a bit with the Prime games... I almost shat myself when I walked into that Metroid holding area on Elysia... And then the power goes out, cue the creepy music... So good.
Oh yeah, that was great. Whenever they get around to doing a new I.P. (unless htye actually do get Eternal Darkness 2), I'd really like it to be a horror game. We just need more horror games.

Could they reboot Duck Hunt?

Duck Hunt Prime?

Gritty reboot that will get PETA on the phone faster than Sonic with the emeralds.

Is it odd that I legitimately like Lanky Kong?

Not at all. He's been one of my favorite Donkey Kong characters for a long time. I'm personally not a fan of the meme he's become.

He's the only other character that isn't already in Tropical Freeze that I like. Characters like Kiddy, Chunky and especially Tiny and Candy do nothing for me.

There is no bigger Metroid fan than me, but you don't see me getting upset at them working on DK. Metroid fans are naive if they think someone other than Retro can't make a great Metroid game. Perhaps not a Prime game, but there are a few teams within and without of Nintendo that could make a great Metroid game.

I mean, I'll buy it if it's metroid prime 4, perhaps if it's a new i.p. or other series, and I won't if it's DKCR 3 so I know what I want.

I've had way past my fill of 2d platformers on Wii U already.

And yet Nintendo chose to outsource the last one and we got that abomination. You can hardly blame anyone for wanting the development company that had 3 slam dunks in a row with metroid back.

I want Metroid, but I'll take just about anything from Retro. I just hope it's not DKCR3, I feel like they should wait for Nintendo's next console to make that.

Seriously, reading that original fucking donkey kong thread, Retro's game BETTER be DKCR3. I need it for the reactions alone.

Some of my favourites so far from last time;

If they worked less on trying t have sex with Dnkey Kong they could be working on Metroid

I loved DKCR, but Jesus Fucking Christ. Retro working on Wii fucking Fit would have been less deflating than this.

Not a single Metroid game... sad.
Nintendo is not ready for HD or making games that display prowess anymore.

It's so fucking boring

Microsoft has Killer Instinct and Nintendo has Donkey Kong Country, two shitty Rare games that should have stayed dead and buried

I called it. They put it on the F*CKING LANYARD. I didn't want to believe. I didn't want to believe they could spend 3 years on a SEQUEL.

But they could.

Break free, Retro. Nintendo no longer is worth it.

Break free.

I guess this poster had some foresight :P

Release Metroid Prime Trilogy on the eShop and i'll forgive you :)

The posts saying "anyone could have made Donkey Kong! Why is Nintendo wasting Retro's talent?" really make me laugh.

Haha yeah okay. Because Nintendo sure knew how to make one before Retro made DKCR. Keep Koizumi far, far away from Donkey Kong or you can kiss Diddy and the gang goodbye.

Yup.

The ones saying "staff will bve leaving in droves forced to wrok on this!" are also a good laugh.

I hope this time moderators would ban a thread named "Retro working on fucking donkey kong". That's the worst thread gaming side has ever seen.

Since I didn't really like DK:TF (yeah, blasphemy) I hope they are doing something else. I doesn't have to be metroid, anything new and non platformy is fine by me.

I'd be OK if it was another DKC game. But only if...

- K Rool returns and is shown to be the mastermind behind the last 2 games too.
- DK decides to call on all of the Kongs to help. Every Kong is playable. Even Lanky and Funky and Candy.

That's pretty much all I want. DKC: Family Reunion.
Also give us back Tiny before she hit some weird Kong puberty design...

Retro on Donkey Kong remains one of my biggest disappointments this generation. Maybe the thread was overboard, but that was a missed opportunity to diversify a line-up that was HEAVILY saturated with good 2D platformers and not much else.

I mean, it really wasn't. Donkey Kong was their only 2D platformer that E3.

As far as memory serves, the only two other notable ones on the system at all were NSMBU and Rayman.

The Metroid fans so want a Metroid game as good as Super Metroid or Metroid Prime again, but after Other M, I don't want another Metroid again.

I don't think they will create that awesome Metroid magic again. Just replay the old Metroid games and be happy with the perfection they gave us, it's only going downhill with his franchise Imho.

See Metroid Other M for example, that one was made by the Super Metroid director. So even if he doesn't know what Metroid made so wonderful back in the day and during the Gamecube days, nobody will (who is working in the gaming industry)
