Rumor: Is Retro Studio teasing their presence at E3?

There is no rule that Hunters 2 should be a 3DS game, it could be for Wii U.

Now, I find the Hunters DS commercial name "Dig" and the actual commercial to be a match for the twitter msg. Strange clue by Retro.

3DS, Wii U, NX, whatever. If it's Metroid I will LOSE MY SHIT.

Lines up perfectly with that new nub for the new 3DS XL too. It's happening you guys.

Indeed. Of course it would suck if Metroid Prime Hunters 2 was just a game about the grave digger where you had to dig graves before the bodies fell in. X^p ...I'm such a Metroid freak I'd still play it though haha.

The problem with metroid though that so many prople overlook and why Nintendo made them make DKCR before is that the guys that made Prime are now at Armature. These people now probably dont know where to start or incapable of developing a Metroid Prime.

My hope is they're working on something completely new or Metroid. I'd be fine with DK but since it's only been a little over a year since Tropical Freeze came out I'm hoping for something different. Looking at it realistically it'll probably be Donkey Kong so we all need to prepare for that.

Just got word from my Uncle at Nintendo HQ that Retro is co-developing a new Metroid with Platinum games.

Retro is handling the art, story, puzzles, and world-building while Platinum is handling the combat.

Should be pretty cool.

I can't begin to fathom how anyone could consider Jungle Beat anything less than excellent. You are in the grip of madness.
DK JB is the best platforming DK game to date. I prefer it to RETRO or RARE's DK games.

This is a worry I have. They hired some pretty great talent, but they've had little to show for it. Their latest game took them over 3 years with a lot of the grunt work done by Monster Games and although good, it did little new and looked fairly safe. Hope they still have it in them

They're not all at Armature, and also, it's not like Armature has exactly been hitting it out of the park since they left.

Maybe, just maybe, Nintendo's guiding hand helped get the best out of them. And maybe the new talent is capable.

strongly doubt it's going to be kong, given TF's sales figures. i suppose if they had the project fully rolling prior to TF's release, it could make sense to see it through, but I somehow doubt it was so far along that they couldn't conscientiously scrap it at that point.

i strongly sense retro is working on metroid. miyamoto made those comments about the franchise semi-recently that were phrased very carefully to hint that an entry was in the works without getting anyone's hopes up too far in advance. but more importantly, a FPS metroid game fits in splendidly with nintendo's Wii U strategy as it stands today: produce titles that will sell strongly to a relatively small userbase comprised mostly of the nintendo faithful. i believe that's why they saw fit to revive starfox as well.

in a way, i hope i'm wrong, as I haven't even completed the prime trilogy (though thusfar I've enjoyed it immensely). personally, i'd like to see retro work on something entirely new (for them). but maybe they'll shake up the formula enough to excite me regardless. on the other hand, for those who have been pining for an HD prime game, it'd be cool to see all of those people celebrate.

People were doubting Retro a lot before too. We had threads about how many people had left them since Metroid Prime trilogy. Then Tropical Freeze happened.

Had a vision.

Side-scrolling Metroid title.

Leverages the mature DKCR/TF tech for immersive, highly interactive environments. More platforming than usual, but Samus is also more agile. Scanning is back, this time using the Gamepad to "scan" the scene for useful info. Touch-enabled menus and puzzles included.

Mix of Zero-Suit and Varia Suit sections. Varia Suit is slower, but more powerful. Varia/Zero roughly equals Donkey/Diddy in terms of mechanics.

Morph ball sections somewhat similar to the mine cart levels, with bomb jumps.

What if Retro goes full IDGAF and decide they want to do a RPG and reboot StarTropics?

SHIT LIKE THIS SHOULD HAPPEN.

Star Tropics is dead. If Nintendo really wanted to revive that they missed the boat during the Wii/NSMB era. As of now only a couple of people in the US cares about it. sorry ;(

Any chance that Raven Blade gets revived? I'm fine with Metroid or Donkey Kong either way.

Noo that looks so bad

Do you realize that was game that got cancelled early in development during the early days of the GameCube?

Samus throwing barrels or riding Rambi? Do it!

Just because the old guys left, it doesn't mean that the new guys aren't capable. It's the same with every other company. There's talent all over the industry.

Tropical Freeze turned out incredible without those people and feels like a Retro Studios game through and through. They obviously have a very high quality staff that knows how to make great games still.

Not only that, but Arkham Origins Blackgate turned out to be a piece of shit. I have to wonder if the people that left to form Armature were really the ones that made the Prime Trilogy as great as it was, because there's little trace of the greatness Retro is known for in that game.

It could also be the case that Nintendo's funding and strong guidance are major factors in the quality of Retro's work. Maybe Armature could just didn't have the resources to work with on Blackgate to make it a good game.

Either way, I have absolutely no doubts about Retro's abilities.

Maybe true but it most in some companies when talent leaves the game quality changes. Retro is a different story though as they report to Nintendo which dont really have talent leaving.

Of course I do haha, the date is on those screenshots. My problem with it isn't that it's not HD.

"NINTENDO STOLE OUR FUCKEN GAME AGAIN!!!"

MP Hunters might make sense as a remake for Wii U as well. There was that big remake rumor a while back.

MP Hunters for WiiU while they develop the next big Metroid for next gen would be nice

Nintendo has been pushing females lead characters for the last few years, why not push the first true female video game hero Samus Aran

It would be nice if Retro rebooted something unexpected, but I feel like it will probably be Metroid or DK again. Although I would be happy to have them, I want to see a Retro reimagining of a forgotten IP (ala Sakurai-Kid Icarus) or a new IP.

god i fucking hope they're working on fucking donkey kong again just for the fucking reaction on fucking gaf

fuck

I don't think they'll be working on Donkey Kong.
But if Nintendo has them be their developer for Star Fox and there's not a lot of games announced this year? Yeah, we're gonna have that thread again.

Hunters 2? as in Metroid Prime Hunters?

id rather Another M than that shit!

Saw the GameXplain update about this and the Platinum dev tweeting Nintendo's E3 conference. What do you guys make of that bit? Has that Platinum dev tweeted the conferences for the other companies?

Not sure, but EatChildren said Platinum tweets a lot of things, including Splatoon

If it's another Donkey Kong I'll say what I said last time - I will NEVER buy another Nintendo game EVER again until I calm down and buy the awesome new DK.

But seriously, though, I'll be upset and I'll love it. I'm a bundle of contradictions when it comes to Retro. I genuinely didn't want DK:TF, genuinely believed it would be incredible from the moment it was revealed, and genuinely ended up thinking it's the greatest platformer ever. And yet I genuinely don't want another, just like last time.
