Rumor: Is Retro Studio teasing their presence at E3?

I want a new IP D:

Here is our new IP: Cranky Kong Dynasty, a game which takes place between Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong country and explains what happened to Donkey Kong Jr, why Cranky (Donkey) Kong hates Mario and why he never get invited to Mario Kart, or Golf or whatever, even Bowser gets invited!

Its a point and click game with heavy gamepad usage :P

Would love for them to complete the DKCR trilogy. Tropical Freeze was an incredible game.

Man, it still baffles me that it was either ignored or largely dismissed through most of the gaming masses. I think only one publication had ever mentioned Tropical Freeze during their "Best of 2014" list, with it being the best platformer & having the best soundtrack.

Gamespot: 6/10 - never forget.

I really want it to be something besides Metroid or DK. Not only is Retro capable of more, but I especially think a return to Prime isn't the right direction for Metroid. Let another team give the franchise a, preferably 2D, spin.

As for what I want them to do, I would love to see a new IP. Probably the thing that'd get me most excited would be a Retro F-Zero. Imagine how cool that could be.

Open world F-Zero with Captain Falcon as a GTA-like character :P

It will be DKCR3 and everyone will love the game...and NX will get a retro-launch titl on a big scale ;)

People should prepare themselves for DKCR3, it just makes too much sense. Easy and cheap to develop (it is a platformer after all), and they can probably release it by christmas.

I loved both of their Donkey Kong games, but please, no third one Retro. Don't toy with my heart like this. The Wii U has enough platformers, it needs something else.

And I don't really understand this need so many people perceive for new IPs. I don't think there's an idea under the sun that would hype me up more than a new Metroid Prime game. The Wii U needs something from Nintendo that's at least a bit more mature, not so bright and kiddy (not that there's anything wrong with that!), and in my mind, a new Metroid pretty much fills the giant gap in the Wii U's library

It's kind of funny because when people say they want a new IP from Retro, I always have the impression they expect something like Destiny/Uncharted/AAA/Mature/High budget game/whatever from them but ironically, they would be the first ones to look the other way if it were something like Splatoon and such.

Nintendo definitely needs to expand their portfolio to more audiences but I feel people have their expectations way too high.

As much as I want a third DKC game (Tropical Freeze is my GOTY 2014) I don't think it would make that much sense. Wii U is so full of 2D platform games that another DK could only do worse than TF, and that didn't do well. I think that after the shameful reaction of fans, they're working on Metroid or a 3D DK game.
Maybe even Luigi's Mansion 3, with NLG working on Punch Out.

I would actually love to see them tackle a 3rd person shooter based on an Indiana Jones-esque adventure theme.
I really think they can pull it off, even if it may feel like an Uncharted clone, at least it would most probably be a good Uncharted clone.

I'll be disappointed if it's anything but a 3d Metroid game tbh, another DK game will be a massive shame IMO. The studio are capable of more than just churning out solid platforming sequels.

I'm hoping they do something original.

A 3D DK Platformer may be interesting, but I don't know if I'd want that from Retro right now. It'd have to be pretty new and fresh if they ever did a new 3D DK.

A semi open world full of exploration and platforming on a large scale could be cool. Gate certain areas similar to Metroid even. Make it feel a bit like Disney's Tarzan, swinging through trees, find secret lagoons, add in old ruins etc.

Make a true Metroid prime 4 with new online play, give me the gameplay from hunters and MP2 in hd with lots of fun features and guns

I'm not super into the Metroid Prime games. Finished the first but couldn't make myself continue playing after about half way through the second game so a new 3D Metroid wouldn't do much for me.

Love the DKC games though so it would be awesome if they were making a new one. With David Wise of course.

Keep DK for NX, give me something to play on my Wii U :(

Wasn't Retro mentioning recently that they were planning to completely revamp their website soon?? E3 would be a good opportunity.

Have people forgotten that a large number of staff since Prime 3 have left? You're talking about large team of developers, many of whom only have ever created DKCR games for Wii and Wii U.

Does it make sense to try and get these developers to make a Metroid game? Would they even want to? It's not the same studio it was in 2007...

...I'd be kind of ok with this. Its different.

While there has been a bit of staff turnover, there is still a significant chunk of the Prime team there, or at least the Prime 2 and Prime 3 team. Most of who left was the senior staff, but there is still enough there to where they should know how to put together a proper Metroid game, but enough new blood for it to not follow the same blueprints as the Prime Trilogy.

Everyone wins. We get a new Metroid FPA that will feel fresh, with the same amount of meticulous detail and polish that went into the previous 3 Primes.

Now of course, this is all conjecture, I'll love whatever Retro gives me, and they are the only studio I trust with that.

We got fucking Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and 3 fucking Donkey Konga games in the GCN era, and only two Metroid Primes. Meanwhile we've already had two fucking Donkey Kongs since the Wii generation! To compare, we've only had two Metroid games since, both on Wii. Enough DK, back to Metroid.

:p

People will laugh at me but Jungle Beat upset me like Other M upset Metroid fans :p

I just can't stomach that Koizumi was planning to get rid of every character that wasn't DK.

In 2002 they'd made nothing. They'd worked on NFL Retro Football, Thunder Rally and Raven Blade - none of which were ready to see the light of day - nobody had worked on a Metroid game, yet they were deemed worthy of doing Metroid, and made one of the best games ever made. They had a cluster of staff that had worked with ID and other developers, but MP was their master work. Today, they have artists and developers who have worked at Naughty Dog, Vigil and others - and they produced (arguably) one of the best platformers on a Nintendo console ever - and they still have some staff over from the MP days no doubt too. I think they deserve our every faith.

Donkey Kong Dread.

Guys it's going to be Diddy Kong Racing 2. Accept it. The best thing we can hope for is Metroid Prime 4 being in pre-production by a small team for the NX. Somebody at Nintendo (I think it was Miyamoto) did say that Retro has enough people for two teams.

Maybe we'll even get a 2D Metroid for the 3DS by somebody else.

I think what it is, is that people want Retro to be Nintendo's equivalent to Naughty Dog, basically a western studio that makes high budget, cinematic, games with high graphical quality that pushes the hardware. And so people get angry at Nintendo and feel like Nintendo is holding them back when they don't do games like that, even though Retro was never intended to be that kind of game studio.

Tropical Freeze was a wonderful game. The only reason I'd feel bad about Retro releasing another one is it just seems so monotonous to do the same genre over and over.
