Rumor: Is Retro Studio teasing their presence at E3?

I wouldn't mind a Sonic game with the same engine that TF uses. =D That said, I just want another Metroid adventure. I (mostly) don't care who it comes from.

Gonna have this on standby when the Nintendo direct starts.

Oh my lord.

I think what it is, is that people want Retro to be Nintendo's equivalent to Naughty Dog, basically a western studio that makes high budget, cinematic, games with high graphical quality that pushes the hardware. And so people get angry at Nintendo and feel like Nintendo is holding them back when they don't do games like that, even though Retro was never intended to be that kind of game studio.

Ewww plz no.

So people want them to make story heavy games with average gameplay? I absolutely adore the Uncharted series, but people should just let Retro be who they are. Donkey Kong Country has always been a Western series anyway. People seem to forget that. If anything, more Western developers should aspire to be more like Retro, not the other way around.

Purely from a business standpoint it does make some sense. Nintendo doesn't have a lot of western development studios, so leveraging the ones they do have to make games that appeal to western audiences is sound theory, and Naughty Dog games do very strongly appeal to western audiences.

Personally, I don't feel particularly strongly about what Retro works on. I'm just worried that they might become a purely Metroid or Donkey Kong factory.

Yeah Retro is totally working on a game titled "DIDDY KONG" instead of Nintendo generally securing a less known character for merchandising purposes.

It's still DKCR3 though. It doesn't matter Tropical Freeze didn't sell. They started development before they knew that.

After the shortcomings of Prime 3, a Metroid game with the Blast Nintendoland gameplay would be a nice compromise. Or maybe an actual 3D plaforming DK game. Or maybe something entirely new. Or maybe I should just be fucking happy the studio can still make games and wasn't shuttered after the sales of Tropical Freeze, despite being one the best platformers made. Retro: gimme whatever you gimme, just make sure it keeps your usual quality.

Nintendo wouldn't shutter the studio. The game's low sales could probably be directed at poor release timing and a terrible Wii U install base. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D released a year prior and sold millions.

Thinking about it, I wonder if a Diddy Kong game might be 3DS exclusive?

It'll be hilarious if it's Diddy Kong Racing.

I bet some that don't want YET ANOTHER 2D platformer will welcome YET ANOTHER Kart racer.

Thing is, Wii U is a platformers paradise while it has 2-3 decent kart racers at best.
Not even a fair comparison and yes, I'll take racer over a platformer anyday :P

Or maybe Retro is just trolling us... Why would they so blatantly make a reference to DK if not to troll us.

It'll be kind of funny if the new Retro game doesn't even show up at E3. Between a new Donkey Kong and no game at all I don't know what would get a worse reaction.

What was this?

One of Retro's many pre-Prime cancelled projects, an action RPG for Gamecube. It was their last cancelled title.

Other canned Retro titles included -

Retro NFL Football (Some team members wanted to turn this into Mario Kick-Off Football)

Action Adventure - a scifi action adventure game with three female leads.

Combat Car / Thunder Rally - a Twisted Metal style game

Here's a good history of Retro pre-Prime:

Were they downsized at one point? It seems like they're able to make only one game at time. I mean, they have developed nine games since 2002. They're a good studio, but they are not N64 era Rare.
