MakingStarWars.net has posted a reported leak of Star Wars Battlefront info that they received recently. Obviously this is rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, but make it a very small grain because Making Star Wars is pretty reliable.

MakingStarWars said:
Here is a huge Star Wars: Battlefront list of rumors I received last week. This contains a lot of information on the game and how it will interface with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, not to mention the game itself:

The story of Star Wars: Battlefront’s campaign will span pretty much the entire Star Wars saga.

Star Wars Battlefront will feature segments in which you play as both the good guys (Old Republic, Rebellion and Republic) and bad guys (Separatists and the Empire). It was specifically stated that there will be a small portion of prequel trilogy content. You will participate in a couple of battles from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the space battle above Corsucant from the beginning of Revenge of the Sith.

The majority of the campaign will take place during the original trilogy era. All of the battles and settings that you would expect to be there will be playable. It was said that the campaign itself is pretty long when compared to other first person shooters.
There will be some segments of the campaign which take place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. There won’t be a lot because in their words “Lucasfilm has a lot of plans for that era.”

The last section of the campaign takes place before and during the opening segments of The Force Awakens. Don’t expect anything too revealing, because the game is expected to ship about a month before the movie releases.

For both the Republic (that’s what the good guys are being called in the production here) and Empire sections you will be playing characters that actually appear in The Force Awakens.

EA/DICE was allowed into Pinewood Studios for a few days to scan and capture props, sets, etc for recreation in the game.

At one point either during either the portion between episodes 6 and 7 or the portion from the beginning of The Force Awakens a character with the last name Tarkin appears.

The scale of the multiplayer is going to be absolutely massive with up 64 players participating on each side (note: actually meant 64 total, see update at bottom).

Space to land battles are absolutely happening, but will only be available in certain game modes.

There will be a “hero” system in place, where as you play you accumulate points that you can eventually cash in to play as a “hero” character. These characters are extremely powerful and have abilities that are not available to the normal characters that you play for most of the matches. The system is constantly in flux, but as it is now, pretty much everyone have a chance to play as a hero at least once per match.

The Downloadable Content plan for the game is “extremely aggressive”. Expect up to five DLC packs for the game, with the first coming out before the end of 2015. Each pack will be themed, with the first two or three being exclusively based around content from The Force Awakens.

The game will ship with several The Force Awakens characters already, but some won’t be added until DLC. Specifically all of the characters in the trailers will be available at launch, as will new versions of the X-wing an TIE fighter.

Tons of new ships and vehicles.

The contents of each DLC will contain at least three new maps, new hero characters, and new vehicles/ships.

I saw a character model for the new Stormtroopers, the model for the new X-wings, and some random models of guns, grenades, and other things like that. However, the most interesting thing was a picture of a screen from one of the employee databases.

It was as a checklist that the department heads can go through to see whats been complete, whats been bug tested, etc. It was basically just a black screen with lines and lines of text posts, with comments and suggestions under each post. What was most interesting about this is what was listed. This particular screen I saw was for a listing of maps for the multiplayer mode. There was a lot of stuff that you’d expect to see in a game like this like:

Hoth: EP5
Endor: EP6
Alderaan
Corscucant
Yavin: EP4

Like I said, nothing major. EXCEPT for this listing that I saw

Tatooine: EP1
Tatooine; EP4
Tatooine: EP7

Now, I know that’s not concrete evidence that the desert planet from The Force Awakens is Tatooine, but I thought it was interesting because I know there was been some debate about that subject.

That is a lot to take in and if the information is accurate, it sounds like a really great experience for Star Wars fans and the links to the new movie sounds pretty good considering how paltry it could be.

Clarification Update: The source contacted me to let me know they simply meant the prequel era Republic when they said “Old Republic.” They did not mean the story from 3000 years before A New Hope. They also said online matches are 64 players, 32 on each side

As has been said in the other thread, either the 64 players on each side was a misunderstanding or is the one thing that debunks this.

Also seems weird that ancillary things like the number of DLC and such are specific, but names of modes and a lot of the core stuff is just super generalized or beating around the bush over it.

Great to hear that the focus of the vanilla content will be the original trilogy. I was afraid they would cash in entirely on the new movies, or the most recent trilogy.

Sounds like Battlefield with a Star Wars skin, but I'm fine with that, because that's what the original Battlefront games felt like anyways.

Their contact sent them an email to clarify that they meant 64 total, not on each side. It probably just got lost in translation.

It is kind of weird, but I Making Star Wars has proven themselves with leaks related to the movies, so I trust them with this.

Seems like a marketing manual/outline might have leaked. They are just full on following the Battlefield method for new content it seems. I wonder if they'll have a VIP service or whatever it is BF4 has.

If it's true that is. Not long til May and then ultimately June.

The only thing that didn't make sense was the MP and I figured a misunderstanding was the case.

It all sounds pretty plausible.

Noticed after I read the actual link that you highlighted the update in the OP :p

Possibly. Was that the yearly subscription thing? I'd rather not have that to be honest than a standard season pass or whatever.

What I'm most curious about is who, if anyone, is getting the marketing jackpot with this. Microsoft and EA are partnered with the EA Access Program to where there is some mutual gains there, but Sony has the advantage in player base and hardware.

Maybe it was just my opinion of the movies clouding my judgement but I just couldn't get the same enjoyment from the second game due to the heavy concentration on the prequels. The first gave me some epic moments I still talk about, fingers crossed we get that same magic on a bigger scale.

For what it's worth they accurately described the Star Wars ep 7 trailer before it was released
ya they are the best for star wars information. Not always on the mark but closer than anywhere else I have found. I am willfully admitting that I am a star wars nut.

Everything sounds pretty realistic.

The campaign will probably feel like you fight against Bots.

But im not sure if its worth the price when Dice will fuck it up again.

So this is going to be first person? :/
Some leaked Gameplay showed Third person.

This game better have Galactic Conquest and OFFLINE instant access with bots like Battlefront 2 did. Either thats in the game or I won't buy it.

I'm also hoping the game isn't just Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. Battlefront =/= Battlefield.

I was curious about this too. My best guess would be Microsoft. The EA Access partnership, I recall they released a Star Wars console a few years ago too. They honestly seem like the best fit. I forsee this game selling quite a few consoles for whoever gets it.

64 v 64 would be more fitting for a battlefront game imo, it would have been epic, also hopefully there is 1st to 3rd person transitions and not just for vehicles.

I'm not sure I believe the campaign length. The games only been in development for 2 years.

If it is true I have no faith that the game will work Day 1. Something has to give.

People will be disappointed regardless though. I mean, there are still people who think it won't loadouts/progression/leveling lol.

That will be a bloodbath. I don't even wanna think about trying to get that bundle, especially if it has a custom console design too. I also wonder if Disney has any say on a marketing deal?

What leaked footage?

Sounds good apart from the DLC plan... Now that is left is to see how they are doing third person mode.

Thats the only way I see this as legit. Campaign is just Galactic Conquest plus objectives, voice overs, and into/outro cutscenes.

I'm hoping that's the route they go. Add in an actual Galactic Conquest with 5 player coop and this is an easy Day 1. Dreams...

Skeptical about the campaign. Hopefully it's not just a bunch of missions from different eras poorly stapled together.

I also hope there's more Clone Wars era content in the multiplayer.
