Rumor: Square to sell two franchises

:lol :lol @ Trigger StopWatch. That's classic.

But uhh...SE selling Hearts would be the dumbest ****ing move of all time.

Not if Disney pays heaps of $$$ for it. KH franchise would cost about half of the Pixar studio.

"Trigger Stopwatch" for the DS would be another great DS project for Mistwalker to get started with...

...Right after they FINALLY finish ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat, of course... >_<

Kingdom Hearts is like the third best selling Square Enix franchise nowadays. Just behind Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

Selling the franchise would be retarded.
Yeah, but think of how much of the profits go to Disney. It's not that good for Square really.

It could very well be KH for this reason...its such a shoe-in for lots of sales yet Square hasn't announced anything about a possible next-gen KH game. We know Disney/Buena Vista wants it, but Square has their KH team on FFVsXIII right now...so it wouldn't come for a couple years for sure unless Square made a new team which would be odd.

a disney 360 exclusive maybe????

Anyway, has this 'rumour' been proven to be true? If so Im think maybe parasite eve, to capcom, and something like chrono trigger to mistwalker, since they have the old scool vibe going

peace

CHRONO GOING TO MISTWALKER PAPANGUS?

http://www.mistwalker-fr.info/news.php?id=229

Two European sites reported that Square Enix would be selling two of its licences to other éditeurs/développeurs. Always according to these two sites, the first licence would be that of Kingdom Hearts which would go in Buena Vista Games, and the second that of Trigger Stopwatch, in Mistwalker. All this is yet only with the state rumour but the fact that Hironobu Sakaguchi lately expressed the desire for making a new Trigger Stopwatch comes to support the statements of these two sites...

I especially like how they fail to mention those two European sites >_<

I doubt very seriously they'll sell Kingdom Hearts. Its the only new IP they've created in recent memory that can even begin to be mentioned in the same breath as FF and DQ in terms of popularity. Not to mention I doubt they would let Buena Vista continue to use Square characters in the game, which would..um..not make it Kingdom Hearts anymore, rather just another Disney game.

Series I could see Square Selling: Front Mission, Star Ocean, Musashi, Parasite Eve, or Bushido Blade.

Parasite Eve is one I would put a good deal of money on as its a very marketable and recognizable series, which doesn't seem to be apart of the company's current direction(same goes for Bushido Blade). I could also see Musashi return as a major portable franchise(especially in Japan) if someone took the time. I throw Star Ocean in there as a wildcard simply because the series has increased in popularity considerably, yet Squeenix seemingly doesn't see it as a killer franchise, where as someone else just may. Its also been 4 years since SO3 originally came out japan, and there hasn't been so much of a whisper of a 4th installment.

God I hope Chrono goes to Mistwalker, in fact i think it belongs there.... and with SE declining ability I wouldnt want them to make a sequel for it themselves.

I hope it doesn't and stays with Square.

Why? Square is pretty much never going to make another sequel.

Blue Dragon shows that Sakaguchi and co. could easily make another CT sequel that would probably be better than CC.

Are you just scared that a Mistwalker Chrono game might not come out on a Sony system?

Hmm...

Akira Toriyama...

Nobuo Uematsu/Mitsuda on music...

Sakaguchi...

I could dig a Mistwalker Chrono game :) Just as long as they make the story a litlte more intelligible this time.

If the Chrono franchise goes to Mistwalker, I'll abort all my intentions of getting a Wii and wait until a Chrono game gets announced. I'll get the console it's on.

It wouldn't be without Yuji Horii doing the scenario again.

I don't think it belongs there.

Neither is MistWalker, considering every single action they've taken since inception has shown that they're fully intent on creating and maintaining unique MistWalker IPs to establish their own brands to rival other notable RPG series... you think they're going to take Square Enix's reject sloppy seconds all of a sudden?

It'd be awesome if Horii did the scenario again, true, but he isn't the only one who can write a story that doesn't require 18 playthroughs and a sheet of LSD to understand.

Well, just saying... three of the four people you listed are freelancers. The only key member of the original team exclusive to Mistwalker is Sakaguchi, while Horii (and a number of other key individuals) are still at Square Enix.

The first three (Toriyama/Uematsu/Mitsuda) could collaborate on a new Chrono game if D3 was making it as part of the new lynchpin of their Simple series.

While I don't think Mistwalker would be interested in reviving an established franchise, a Chrono game doesn't necessarily need the 'Dream Team' to be made (Chrono Cross, anyone?)

Whether that will satisfy the numerous CT-only fanbois is another question.

yeah well Disney will get a harsh reality check if they think KH is popular because of the Disney themes

Er, no, I think Square fans would be the ones getting the reality check.

While Square and its franchise characters certainly factored in with a certain portion of the fanbase, the overwhelming popularity of the games WAS derived from the inclusion of Disney characters and the heavy role they play.

Kingdom Hearts didn't steamroll past Final Fantasy in the US for nothing, you know. You take the name "Square" off a Kingdom Hearts box and I doubt most people would notice.

I think once you account for everything that has to come out of Kingdom Hearts for it to become a Disney-only property you'd find people would definitely notice.

Disney is definitely the more important half of the IP equation, but the reason KH really took off is that it made the Disney properties "cool," and the context provided by the Square stuff (both the FF characters and the newly invented Nomura stuff, plus the j-pop and anime stylings) is what's needed for that.

The success of KH is pretty much entirely in the unique, theoretically unsound chimeric amalgamation that it is, and I've gotta think that both IP holders invested in it understand that it's basically got nothing to offer if you remove either side from the equation.
