Rumor: Universal Building Third Park Based On Games. (Including: Nintendo + Blizzard)

F-Zero has to be a rollercoaster. IT JUST HAS TO BE!

And a Donkey Kong mine cart wooden rollercoaster.

And a Star Fox space simulator.

And and and....

Unfortunately, I think the Nintendo franchises that aren't "top-tier" won't make it into big budget attractions. I could always be wrong, but I think this will be a lot of Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon stuff. Stuff like F-Zero might get some lip-service in the design of the park (like how there's a random giant picture of Namor in the Marvel area) but I'd be surprised to see them spend hundreds of thousands on building a blue falcon coaster, as cool as that would be.

This is accurate and what everyone should expect.

You will have Mario/Zelda/DK/Pokémon rides. That is literally it. Everything else will be decoration.

Universal has absolutely no space around Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios. I don't even know where they would find some nearby. They're surrounded on all sides by busy roads and hotels, the number of which is increasing next year with Sapphire Falls.

I agree with everyone else saying their only option is to add areas inside either Islands or Studios. I also think it would be the smartest move because as much as I'd like a theme park that revolves around Nintendo, they would be at their strongest as a supplement to all of the other offerings at those two parks. This would be just one more reason for people to visit.

I want a giant picture of Captain Falcon in the Nintendo area, then.

The signs were there.

Guys I got it worked out. Nuke Kidzone for Nintendo in USF, and nuke Toon Lagoon for Warcraft in IoA. There, that's a proposition that at least has some basis in reality.

I would book my trip instantly if this is true...the adult in me says stay calm, but the kid in my has cut his throat so I guess I'm good to go.

Alright but that's not what this is supposed to be right? They're building an entirely new park for Nintendo and Blizzard. Or at least they're rumored to be doing.

This is the confusion, I think.

The OP says a new PARK.

But I think they mean LAND. LANDS are the themed sections that comprise PARKS. The Wizarding World is a land, Marvel Superhero Island is a land, The Lost Empire is a land, etc. All these lands make up single park, called Islands of Adventure.

Universal has two parks right now and no space for a third one. A video game land, though, in Islands of Adventure is almost definitely what the article is actually talking about.

The OP should probably be updated.

do you know how disneyworld is split up into magic kingdom, animal kingdom, epcot..etc.. It will be like one of those, which builds up a greater park(Universal Studios). Like right now theres the main universal studios, with islands of adventure attached. Similar to Disneyland with California Adventure attached. Now there will be Universal Studios, islands of adventure, and vid games land. The funny thing is that now islands of adventure is more popular than the main universal studios part.

Just to be sure, we're all just talking hypotheticals and not taking this rumor at all seriously, right?

I mean, sure, it could be happening, but look at the way the guy's writing it.

Ahhh. Thanks for clearing that up. Just creating sections of a park for video games makes sense.

The OP is totally accurate as to what this article actually says. The question is whether or not the article is correct.

From the article:

Universal is ready to move ahead with plans to construct a third theme park in Orlando that would accompany both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Orlando and expand their footprint even further as a multi-day vacation destination to rival Walt Disney World. My understanding is that they already have enough land surrounding their currently developed areas and are in the process of accumulating more to realize their designs on something bigger.

Your example is incorrect. Disney works on an entirely different spectrum. Disney is HUGE where Universal is smaller. But the nesting terminology still applies. Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios are PARKS which contain LANDS. Magic Kingdom's lands (Adventureland, Fantasyland, etc) are where the terminology actually comes from.

All of Disney's parks comprise a RESORT.

Resort > Park > Land

From the article:

I was referring to the article and the OP as the same thing. I was implying the article itself was inaccurate, which the OP otherwise accurately reported.

If they put nearly as much love and care into it as they did for Simpsons' Springfield or Wizardly World of Harry Potter, I'm all for it. (i.e. I want to see Shy Guys at the Urinals and Boos in the mirrors)

Oh, then i guess i am misinterpreting it too. So they are just making a land inside universal studios? That is lame as shit then

They really have been doing an amazing job with their newer areas. I was there this weekend and the gulf in quality of execution between something like Toon Lagoon from when Islands of Adventure first opened, and the new Diagon Alley area is remarkable.

Donkey Kong HAS to be a giant wooden roller coaster like the Mine Buster at Canada's Wonderland.

Speaking of, that entire theme park had a number of coasters named after movies when it was still owned by Paramount.

Top Gun, Tomb Raider, The Italian Job...hell they might have named Behemoth after Transformers if it was still Paramount Canada's Wonderland.

But yeah, I certainly imagine Mario Kart kart races being a thing, but it'd be great if they could incorporate some sort of AI controlled racetrack, like with those solar freakin' roadways, to simulate holographic item blocks and if your car hits a sensor you spin 360 degrees on the spot. (or a blue shell spins you 1080 degrees so you get nice and dizzy).

F-Zero would need to be among the fastest coasters. Strap you in tight, seal the pod and launch you to top speed from the get go.

Starfox with Peppy yelling out 'DO A BARREL ROLL' just before the spins, among the most complex coasters out there.

Man, I better get it together before hype gets out of hand...

Any subject matter can make a good theme park land with the right engineering and design. Considering how good Diagon Alley is, especially for the time it took to build, I have all faith that they'll create some amazing areas with these IPs as well.

Avatarland at Animal Kingdom has been brought up a lot as a poor idea, but I think there's a lot of material there to build an extremely compelling theme park property even if you don't particularly care for the subject matter.

Harry Potter definitely put the asses in the seats at Universal, but a well designed land of any IP will stand on it's own in the right park. Not to mention that a large number of the best theme park attractions had movies made about them rather than being based on movies.

That was the original theory. The NEW rumor, posted here, is suggesting a brand new park that would enable a much larger Nintendo land, potentially made up of several lands (like how Harry Potter now has 2)

Almost certainly. Universal just doesn't have the space to build a whole new park. It's probably impossible.

Universal does huge and regular renovations, though. Expect a current Land within Islands of Adventure to be redone.

I made a thread about this in off topic about five minutes before this one. In hindsight I should have put it in the gaming section. lol

A pokemon snap ride would be hilarious.

The article clearly says third gate though.

Also, Universal often marketed The Wizarding World of Harry Potter as a park within a park.

It's going in Kidzone. That area is dead space and adjacent to a huge expansion plot.

Nothing hypes me up like the Nintendo theme park. I'm giddy. F-Zero feature ride. Real-life barrel rolls. Mario obstacle courses. Pokemon SNAP. And Warcraft too? A rumor but...take all my money.

Send help.

Diagon Alley isn't lame...

havent been actually, so i shouldnt say that. I have an annual pass to disneyland and that is all I need. Not really a fan of Universal Studios from the couple times I have been(before harry potter). I feel like they do the same gimmicky bullshit on all their rides, like they always try to find a way to spray water at you.

Mummy ride is alright

It does say third gate, I just still think it's mistaken. Where would it go? There just isn't anywhere to build it.

I would be excited to be wrong, though.

The California parks absolutely pale in comparison to The Orlando parks, FYI. Both Orlando parks are astounding experiences. There is nowhere and nothing else like it.

Especially Disney World. Simply amazing. Disney Land is like a carnival in contrast.

Yeah I'm curious to know where it would go myself. Universal's been trying to snag as much land as they can in that area but it's next to impossible. There's a high school behind Islands of Adventure lol.

It really is bizarre seeing those old areas, like the one with the Marvel super heroes. It's just a bunch of cardboard cutouts and a mini parade every few hours. Captain America's diner - come order a hamburger... vs go order a Duff beer, a Flaming Mo, or Butterbeer in the new areas.

So damn true. Disney in California is sadness in comparison.

What most likely happen is the area pictured below will be replaced by Nintendo themed-attractions:

The Simpsons ride is most likely a keeper, but Woody Wood pecker, E.T., etc. gone

Fun fact: a sound wall was installed on the border of the Dueling Dragons roller coaster because Dr. Phillips High School complained about the noise ;)

Please use tons of Nintendo IPs and not just Mario, Zelda and Splatoon.

Right. ET and Barney are gone, I would imagine.
