Eh, it can, it's just some lingo I suppose to refer to controller based games.

No reason but we haven't seen it yet. Like the mythical jackelope, the core Kinect game is something of an urban legend.Vinterbird said:I really don't get this. Why can't a Kinect game be 'core'?
What if it was headtracking or something else awesome?Galvanise_ said:Indeed.
There are some games I don't want to use motion controls in though. Gears of War, Crackdown, Alan Wake (recent job posting makes me sad) are all franchises that spring to mind. They are all fine the way they are. Stick an option in if you must, but I won't use them.
I like having my hands on the controller at all times. I liked Eyepet Move edition much more than the standard Eyepet because I was always holding a controller, for example. Playing the regular edition got on my nerves.

Fair enough :lolGalvanise_ said:I'm cool with that. I won't have to keep taking a hand off of the controller and putting it back. If its done seemlessly (and by that I mean I won't have to go from buttons/sticks to hand waving etc) I'm more than fine with it.
Actually, I don't want to be singing at the TV, talking to it etc. Those kinds of things fuck me off too. I don't want to feel more of a sad bastard than I already am! :lol

Vinterbird said:We're not even in 2011 yet. E3 has yet to happen, and VGA has yet to happen. There's really no reason to call 2011 a bad year for games (it's looking like the opposite) before any announcements has been made.
(also the Kinect games could be hybrid games, which is even more exciting)
Hey You said:*Erases VGA's off calender*
Why would THQ lie? I thought I remember them saying we'd get a look this year.
Problem is, it was announced over the summer.Vinterbird said:Keighley wouldn't give away an unannounced reveal on gaf.
Speaking at an E3 analyst meeting last night, THQ core games VP, Danny Bilson revealed that the company's set to show Saints Row 3 for the firs time at the Spike TV awards in December.
He never said they both weren't there, he only implied at least one of them wasn't.Neuromancer said:Problem is, it was announced over the summer.
So either plans have changed or Keighley's trying to pull a fast one on us.
Vinterbird said:Microsoft/Major Nelson said so, and I think Keighley also confirmed it.
Rumor is several AAA hardcore Kinect games.
IGN said:According to our tip, Microsoft is using the Spike TV Video Games Awards (VGAs) to introduce some big action games, including new titles for the Kinect.
Ah I see, well sounds like we will get our SR3 reveal then. Happy day!Nirolak said:He never said they both weren't there, he only implied at least one of them wasn't.

Yeah. You'd think a game like you're talking about would be a no brainer. (No pun intended!)Gorgon said:Actually what I want is a TRUE survival zombie game inspired by stuff like World War Z, the Zombie Survival Guide, Night of the Living Dead, etc. People complain that there are too many zombie games out there but no one has yet provided a game that really goes to the roots of what makes the whole zombie theme so cool either in literature or film. So as far as I am concerned, the gaming industry (except for some indie and browser stuff) hasn't yet provided a single game that reflects what most zombie fans actually want. And since Dead Island is probably never going to happen it seems that we are condemned to play the same retarded zombie shit forever.

Hopefully this 'trend' will not be widespread adopted by other companies.Nirolak said:They did this so they can shut down a studio when a game bombs without worrying about having a half finished project.
Budcat and Bizarre are the most recent victims of this strategy.

I don't want to put words in his mouth but I think he means a game about long term survival in a post zombie world (not just dashing from A to B, but scrounging for survival items and holing up in places, also exploring.) I really think there's a game like that in the works but damn my poor human memory I can't remember the name of it, or even who's making it. There was this "GTA" style game called Fort Zombie that came out last year for PC.Neuromancer said:I don't want to put words in his mouth but I think he means a game about long term survival in a post zombie world (not just dashing from A to B, but scrounging for survival items and holing up in places, also exploring.) One of the Rare teams should have something for next year, Unless MS found some other studios to build games.AwesomeSyrup said:MS needs at least two more unrevealed exclusives(that aren't for Kinect) next year. Gears 3, Codename Kingdoms, and Forza 4 aren't enough.

Zombie games have been bull shit this generation. I want one that actually involved struggling to survive, scavenging for supplies and not being able to walk away unharmed after been swarmed by them.

electroshockwave said:I know exactly what you're talking about. A lot of zombie games are just about fighting hordes or waves of zombies that could be replaced by any random monster. I've put way too much thought into how I would design a zombie sandbox survival horror FPS set in a quarantined city for something that I don't have the slightest chance of making. In it you would have to scavenge for food, encounter other survivors (good and bad) and it would be based around the principles of the Zombie Survival Guide. Building interiors and enemies would be procedurally generated. You could scavenge for weapons and ammo and modify them with pieces of scrap (like a Chigurh style silenced shotgun). I even thought that fast zombies could be included by making recently dead zombies more mobile. You would also have to build up the defenses of your shelter, possibly even soundproofing it to block out the wails of the undead. There wouldn't really be a weapon limit but carrying more would drain your stamina faster. And it would be based around two modes; "Immune" like most games or "Survival" where death is permanent and being bitten kills you and you get to play on as a zombie. Although, for the latter I don't think the story could continue.
That's when you break out the sattle and hang on like your bullriding xDNeuromancer said:I can handle one. I just couldn't handle 2, in a small space, with tons of regular dudes. Talk about difficulty spikes.

"One of the things that is key in [the zombie] genre is really giving players a sense of purpose that is not just kill monsters and level up," he tells us. "MMO players like to have a home, and that is one of the reasons I'm not going to throw them out into a post apocolyptic world. The goal here is to make them feel like there is a purpose. You're trying to restart society. You're trying to reclaim the world. One of the very first goals is going to be to get together with other players and establish a place that you can call your own that you must actively maintain and defend, and that over time will allow you to have a home base that will allow you to restart the economy, start trading with other 'blue zones' and feel like you have a home again."
Strain says that you will have to be defending your town, especially at night when the hordes come, but that as you build your town you should also build a sense of safety. However, you will also be able to run out into the land of the dead in order to get special items, supplies, or other things that are needed for survival.
