Please, can we get a DC-Marvel Movie/TV Universe OT?
I can't figure out what is going on, timelines, what is connected.
Not just the movies, but arrow, flash, agent carter, aqua man, ant man, and now everyone talks about daredevil. Then there is superman vs batman and all them others. And what about the x-men/fantastic four? There is so much I cant keep up.
I would love someone to explain how to watch it in the right order, what to avoid, what can be skipped.
Elektra was on TV some days ago and it was not good. I had no idea how it fit with everything.
The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe) have their own OT in the Community side, if you want to check them out.
Basically, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is all the movie that Marvel Studios/Disney have released starting with Iron Man. They all take place in the same universe
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Avengers: Age of Ultron
(more yet to be released)
Plus the TV shows: Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter and Daredevil
Anything NOT on that list is not in the MCU. Movies and TV shows are all in the same canon. Now, Fox also owns the rights to some Marvel franchises, namely The Fantastic Four and X-Men. Even though these are Marvel properties, they are NOT in the same universe as Iron Man and the Avengers. Also any Marvel movie that came out before Iron Man (Daredevil, Elektra) does not count.
Previously, Sony held the rights to Spider-Man, Marvel's flagship series. Technically, they still do. Spider-Man 1-3 are all separate from the reboots Amazing Spider-Man 1-2. However, Sony recently reached a deal with Marvel to produce ANOTHER reboot of the Spider-Man series, this time produced by Marvel Studios, taking place within the MCU. So the previous Spider-Man movies, like the old Daredevil and Elektra and Ghost Rider movies don't matter to the current Marvel movie canon.
On the DC side, the only movie currently released in the DCCU is Man of Steel. This will be joined by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and others. Anything made before Man of Steel (like 2008's Green Lantern) is not canon to this new DCCU. Their TV properties are not connected to anything their movies are doing. Nothing. And most of the time, their TV properties aren't even connected to each other. Arrow and Flash take place in the same universe because they're on the same network, but those are not connected to Constantine or Gotham. I don't know if Supergirl on CBS is going to join up with them, I think the jury is still out on that. Basically the Green Arrow and the Flash in the TV shows will not be the same ones showing up in the movies because they are entirely separate. However, DC doesn't have the same rights issues as Marvel does, so all their future movies are connected to the DCCU. Except the animated ones.
I know it's confusing. On the Marvel side it's confusing because of rights issues, on the DC side it's confusing because the TV and Movies divisions are totally separate
