You say that like its a bad thing. I think its what sets him apart.

That's fine, but it also makes him NOT Hal Jordan. Well, he could be Parallax Hal Jordan, but certainly not origin Hal Jordan.

Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations to play the villain in "Green Lantern," Warner Bros.' big-budget, Martin Campbell-directed tentpole based on the DC Comics super hero.

Ryan Reynolds is starring as Hal Jordan, the test pilot who finds a downed spacecraft with a dying alien who passes him a powerful ring, introducing Jordan to a interstellar police force known as the Green Lanterns.

Sarsgaard will play Dr. Hector Hammond, the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father's eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor.

Hmm, sounds pretty good. Saarsgard is awesome.

I figured they'd use Sinestro though...

If anything else, it seems wiser to use a semi-villain in an origin and then build up to the big baddie in the second movie.

Worked for Batman (not a knock on Scarecrow or Ra's) and sherlock Holmes.

Im guessing Sinestro will still be a Green Lantern in this movie. Maybe he will turn evil at the end, you know setting up a sequel and all that jazz.

They need to cast Hugo Weaving. He would be perfect as Sinestro :D

True.

It'd be awesome if it went Movie 1 (Hector Hammond & Sinestro Intro) > Movie 2 (Sinestro Corps War) > Movie 3 (Rage of the Red Lanterns).

In my dreams.

Wow, Sarsgaard's gonna be a great Hector Hammond. That's great casting. Here's hoping they decide to axe the body-atrophy thing.

This isn't mean to be a offense to any Green Lantern fans but isn't this movie kind of scraping the bottom of the comic book barrel.

That's the way I feel about it. I remember being a kid, where getting American comics in your local newsagents (before dedicated stores existed in the UK) in sequential order was hit and miss, the utter dissapointment when you wanted the latest Spidey, Ghost Rider or Iron Man and my mum came home with a DC comic like Green Lantern was too soul crushing to describe. I've always fucking hated DC stuff bar Batman. This will either be a genre changing experience or an utter camp fuckupfest.

Green Lantern has (apparently) been ruling the DC Universe for years now. The whole thing literally revolves around GL right now. And will for at least another ~2 years.

So, this is a perfect time for a movie.

I could give a shit about green lantern but I like ryan reynolds so my interest level right now is ... wait no I still don't care at all.

The Green Lantern universe has really exploded in recent years under Geoff Johns. Hal Jordan is one of the biggest characters in the DC universe now.I didn't care about GL before either but through the last year or so I've really come to like it. Looking forward to the movie.

Alot of people have not been reading GL for the last 3-4 years. It has been rocking and you all are missing the boat. Do yourself a favor and go pick up GL Rebirth TPB like right now and start there.

And thats interesting using Hammond. Hope they stay away from the comically huge noggin. And they hopefully will do Sinestro right like Venom should have been introduced as a villain. Slowly over at least 2 movies. I know its too much to expect a trilogy but at least start planning on two movies so you can add substance and create emotional attachments to characters. Sinestro introduced as the big bad right off in the first movie would just be another villain. Build him up in the first movie though as "the greatest Green Lantern" and Hal's friend and mentor THEN have him turn in the second movie. Now that would be a gut punch for the audience.

Wait. You haven't been reading GL for the last few years? /fail as a comic fan.

No U! Also it was for Ryan Reynolds...not weaving.

Oh OK. I was with you at first but he's grown on me since.

I thought I was going to have to strip you naked and force you to be in gay porn. That was a close one!

Wait...what do I have to do for you to force me to do that again?

I'm still trying to understand why the hell wasn't Bradley Cooper chosen to be Green Lantern?

Ryan Reynolds would have been a good Flash, but I wouldn't pick him for Green Lantern.

Yeah that would work a lot better actually.

Blackest Night is the reason Green Lantern is currently popular, so they can bring back heroes and villians from the dead. The last Green Lantern story I read was the Sinestro War and I wear my badge of shame as my avatar. Long live Kyle Rayner...

Green Lantern is popular because it's very well written and all the Corps stuff tickles people's imaginations.

And Kyle is alive and well in the GLC book. They didn't do a hatchet job on his character to pave the way for a new guy.

I'm saying that in the battle of who's the better Green Lantern they made Parallax take over Kyle ( complete with grey-streak in hair ) to put them both on the same ground. It's well know that Johns has a great distaste for Kyle Rayner.

As for the "Emotional Spectrum" my favorite is Agent Orange- Larfleeze, only interesting lot of the bunch. I read Green Lantern through the Kyle run in Vol 3 and never really liked Hal Jordan... never hated him either and he did get a bad deal. But don't go shit all over Kyle for decisions of the past.

Oh and to be on topic, I'm gonna be first in line for this movie!

I think comic nerds get too wrapped up in what an actor looks like. I would be okay with this if he were a good actor and looked nothing like Green Lantern.
However, he neither looks like GL nor can he act sooo....

Too bad though, I would wager they are gonna play up his "ain't I a stinker!?" persona instead of staying true to GL's old school hard ass dickhead personality. That would have been fun

And before someone brings up heath ledger, I should point out that we already knew he could act beforehand. The harsh reaction to his casting was based on silly "Thats not what the joker looks like!" and "10 things I hate about you lol" bullshit.

Uh, other way around. It was originally supposed to just be a Green Lantern story, but GL along with Bendis' Avengers has been the hottest consistent book in comics over the last few years so DC saw the potential to turn it into something bigger. It still basically reads like a GL story.

It's well know that Johns has a great distaste for Kyle Rayner.

How do you figure? He established that Rayner is the greatest GL, while Hal is still seen as the black sheep screwup. That's why Rayner got to become Ion over Jordan.

woah, woah! Rayner is the savior of the corps, but not the best ring slinger. otherwise that daxamite (whatshisname) wouldn't be Ion. and anyways, this whole green lantern series has been set-up as Hal Jordan's redemption. he will be the greatest again.

Are we living in 2005 or something? Johns first started writting GL with Rebirth... what has he done with Kyle? Oh just made Parallax posses him... then he died in Blackest Night... sounds a little familiar?

You missed the part about becoming Ion.

And him not dying, he was back the next issue. :lol

If I'm not mistaken during Johns run isn't Sodam Yat Ion? Also Johns retconed Ion...
I know Kyle came back to life... but all Johns has to do now is make Kyle the Spectre and it's Hal Jordan 2.0.

That is an awesome rendition of Oa.

Casting Ryan Renolds makes this a no-watch for me, because I hate the guy. Blade 3, yuck. It's a shame though as Green Lantern is interesting.

Nah, Kyle was Ion after/during Infinite Crisis (written by Johns).
