• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Ryse locked at 30fps, no screen tearing.

This is the one game I'm most torn on whether or not to pre-order. I love the setting and visuals, and if the story is good I might be able to overlook the QTE combat. Or not, because I really hate QTEs.

Well for starters it's 900p. The main character has his poly count almost halved. That's two reasons I was expecting 60fps. But then I wasn't interested before anyway because it's Crytek who haven't made a good game since the first half of the original Crysis.

You mention what they took out, but what did they bring in?

Yet you post in a thread for a game you "had no interest in before anyway" go figure, also cut the bullshit there was never any indication of this game being 60 fps at any point.

Every Xbox One game thread is a sea of crap now with all the negativity. I hope the game is a blast to play. I'm definitely looking forward to a demo of it. It's not on my must buy list, but it's on the consideration list.

Yeah never have a seen such a shit storm over one simple Twitter post about a game being locked at a certain frame rate. You have to laugh at the guy arguing with Spencer on Twitter too, yeah i am sure he knows more about the game that the head of MS game studios...

Unlike the past, polycount isn't everything, in fact it's pretty low on the list of important things when it comes to creating a virtual world. They probably halved it because it didn't really justified it because you can half the count and have the result look almost the same. Also it doesn't make sense to expect it to be 60FPS just because it halved the main character's polycount. Beside what's the current poly count like? 70k ? That's quite a lot for an action game.

If it stays at 30fps and never drops then it'll be a very graphically pleasing game.

Crytek is adept at getting people's faces really close up to the camera so you can see the detail work on their textures and shading.

Combat animations will be its major hurdle. It reminds me of Heavenly Sword in a way.

In all fairness, when it comes to actual gameplay visuals, the game does look better than pretty much anything else we've seen and it's still a launch title.

Yep. As someone that has minimal interest in the XB1 at the moment, I still think it's the best looking launch title across both platforms (900p or otherwise).

I understand that 60 FPS is better, and I really love when games run at that, but as a console gamer, it really never bothers me unless a game dips below 20FPS. And even that is tolerable when it's only for a really hectic moment. I can tell that when I'm driving in GTAV the frame rate is shit, but after the first 10 minutes of playing it, I'm used to it, no problem. 30FPS is perfectly fine for like 99 percent of the people who will play this game.

I just can't wait for this gen to start and be out for a few months. This pre launch BS is a nightmare. This time itseems worst then last gen. It's like the every gaming site is N4G now.

Ryse looks amazing not worried about it's specs. I feel bad for those that truly pass on games for BS like native resolutions and fps.

The had a choice either to halve the polygon and get better shaders+no lod for Marius. If they kept Marius at 150k he would have lod and wouldn't look as good as he currently does.

Don't mind the armor difference, he's not wearing the same one. Also I'm kind of surprised nobody has mentioned the low-polygon catapult stone has been fixed, i remember some people complained about that.

They increased elbow poly count? Can barely see them! :D

Did they remove LOD only from Marius model or from all the models? Because just removing it from Marius won't make any difference.

Also If the gameplay is like this, then we have a game that seriously competes with Quantum Break and The Order: 1886 in graphics.

So locked at 30 means 30 all the time, and capped at 30 means it could be variable up to 30 but never above it? If so, locked 30 is a damn good thing and I hope Killzone can manage it as well.

Personally, I don't Killzone necessarily needs it, because what they're trying to do with that game is so much more ambitious compared to previous games that you have to expect that there will be times where you maybe notice some minor drops. Framerate dips after 24 AI doesn't have to mean major framerate drops that are sustained. They could simply just be blips in an otherwise very smooth experience.

I personally doubt that there won't be some moments in Ryse where fps dips also, but the fact that, for a big part of the experience, framerate shouldn't be an issue at all is very welcome news, and something that I hope remains true.

Also, new footage of this game is coming in the first week of November, focused on story and combat, with new gameplay.

Great info. Thanks Senju.

I'm not really sure tbh.

wow great news, can't wait for that.

This is how I'm feeling if I'm reading it right.

Although I was going to be a bit less kind and say it was a step up for them. Seriously though, failing to be either native resolution or a mostly stable 30 FPS bugged the hell out of me for Crysis 2 and it sounded like 3 was worse if anything, so it really is good that they are a stable 30 FPS as failing to meet that is a bigger issue to me than failing to be a full 1080p.

Game looks amazing. I think one of the (non-gameplay) trailers showed some light supernatural elements. Will there be any in the game?

So they're supposed to show some new gameplay of Ryse this week?

Edit: Didn't see Senju's post there, first week of Nov. Cool.

I am excited for this game. Even though it's a hack and slash it just seems like the freshest next gen game. I think it's b/c I love Rome as a setting and it just seems newish for a game.

Just to clarify, opening and closing cinematics in Halo 4 (as well as all the Spartan Ops cinematics) are GCI. The rest is in-game though, and there are some very pretty in-game cutscenes.

------------

Ryse looks gorgeous, locked 30 seems totally fine for this kind of game, and I love the setting. I'm just not sold on the combat, so I'll be waiting for reviews/impressions to decide if it's a purchase for me.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The game certainly looks very nice indeed. After Killzone and maybe BF4 I'd say this is the best looking launch title on either console. I hope Crytek have put some effort into the story this time around.

It is by far, the most impressive Xbox One exclusive for me. Racing games and zombies do nothing for me . At this moment, it is the only Xbox One disc game I plan on buying (will download Crimson Dragon) till Halo 5 comes out. I'm getting each and every multiplat as well as my online multiplayer service on the PS4 (I'll wait for the PS4 version of Titanfall) so pretty much my entire Xbox One first year experience depends on Ryse living up to the trailers and impressions. So far it has exceeded them and keeps getting better.
