Ryse: The Empire? (rumored sequel)

The ending of Ryse left me pretty excited where they could take a series. Shame MS and Crytek couldn't work it out. With more variety in enemies and combat it seems like there was potential for a really great sequel.

I think the IP is dead though, or at least we won't see it return anytime soon.

Do it for the culture Microsoft.

MS wanted to fund a sequel, but only on the condition they could own the IP. Crytek said no and MS walked away.

I would love a sequel, the first one was a lot of fun, and the setting was amazing. It's too bad this is likely fake and a sequel is unlikely to ever happen, as Ryse had a great chance of becoming a new franchise for MS. Who knows though, maybe Crytek let the licence go after getting into troubled times?

Yes, please. I love me some Ryse. It would save Crytek from all their financial troubles and they'd finally be able to pay employees on time with all that Ryse sequel money.

I'd be in for a sequel. I bought Ryse for like $15 and it was definitely worth it. It's a somewhat underrated title imo that caught more flak than it deserved from reviewers. It has flaws, and could definitely use more enemy variety, but it was a good time throughout.

As a bystander how thought the gameplay in the first game looked awful, this was my reaction after seeing the thread title as well.

Is ryse any good? saw a lot of initial flack for being a lackluster game filled with qte, but steam reviews it favorably

I recently played the hell out of it. Some of the best looking designs for Rome I have seen. Each level was varied. Things like the Brittania forests at night, seeing Rome during a sunset near villas, storming beaches during conquest against the briton barbarians, the forests etc.

Game was short, some frustrating sections, and janky gameplay at times, but a sequel would be great.

The game wasn't too bad, just a little overhyped and a bit too average on release. It was definitely gorgeous though and I wouldn't mind a sequel. Would just need to temper expectations.

Yep, it's a fake rumor.

I never played it but from what I hear it was a fun game. I think it got pretty unfairly maligned due to it being announced as an exclusive to a VERY unpopular platform at the time.

What happened to Ryse: Knights of England that was trademarked around release of the first game? I'm assuming that died with the breakup of MS and Crytek? Shame as I enjoyed the first game.

Ryse is an okay game that could have a great sequel without being hamstrung by a strict launch deadline and a platform change (arguably two platform changes given it used to be a Kinect game).

I hope it gets the chance to become a franchise even if this rumour seems dubious.

Ryse was criminally underrated. It's pretty much a beat em up game with swords and it gets a little repetitive but I thought the acting and story was fine and the graphics are still amazing especially on PC. I welcome a sequel.

I would love a sequel if done right. The first game had a lot of potential, which was squandered with some really terrible and samey gameplay/combat. The game needed to be much stronger in that dept, and it wasn't. I hope this turns out to be true.

I doubt it. There was a guy on r/Xboxone trying to push this yesterday. Did a second post exclaiming "he responded!" People started question it's validity and the guy deleted both posts.

None of that definitive proof of anything, but at the time it all felt like a con.

I watched a few gameplay videos and what I could describe from those was literally "press A to awesome".

Maybe the final game was better, though.

It was much better than that at its highest difficulty. It actually became a challenge juggling and changing combo boosts on the fly.

Also some of the best transitions from cutscenes to actual gameplay I've ever seen. Also enjoyed the story.
