Fire Emblem characters are the Jar Jar Binks of Smash.
My opinion is kinda caught in the middle as to what Sakurai should do next. I do agree that he deserves a break either way. But as for what to do afterwards, there's two major things to consider.
I'm honestly not sure what would be the best course of action.
- I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai wanted to do another passion project along the lines of Kid Icarus: Uprising. However...
- The NX Platform needs a Smash game within a timely manner. And if Sakurai pursues a passion project first, we'll either have to wait until the 2nd wave of NX hardware for another Smash game or have Smash 5 be handed off to another developer. Either scenario has the potential to not end well, especially the former (because there's a decent chance that a new director could do a great job).

Fans of anything are the worst and the more there are, the worse it is.
But at least with Splatoon, they can likely churn out a sequel in a timely manner. Unless Smash 5 uses Smash 4 as its foundation, the same cannot be said for Smash. Plus people would be disappointed by the lack of a new Smash game for the entirety of the lifespan for the first wave of NX hardware.Nintendo releases a remaster of Smash 4 for NX. An all-in-one version with all of the content from both games. It's really the only thing that makes any sense, since you want the community aspect of the games to continue through the next release, but don't want to rush it, and likely won't have backwards compatibility.
This is yet more important for Splatoon, as well.
After watching all the behind the scenes stuff concerning Lucas, the prequels and the tarnishing of the originals, its hard to believe anyone would admire him.
I dont think its healthy for anybody to think that just because they created something successful means theyre always right and their ideas shouldnt be challenged.
I just want a definitive console version of Smash that has all the content from the 3DS version.
Get off my phone. The Fire Emblem characters are awesome.
I hope so as well, mainly for the sake of future-proofing the franchise should Sakurai need to bow out. Either that or if Nintendo requires Smash 5 on the NX Platform ASAP.I wonder who will be JJ to Sakurai's Lucas.
Someone has to pick up the baton at some point. Hopefully Sakurai's training a successor.
Donkey Kong characters are the Jar Jar Binks of Smash.
I'd argue that people like that aren't really worth listening to. To them it's more of an exercise in narcissism than actually caring for the created work. A chance to stroke their own ego, more than anything else.
As a creator, you have to learn to focus on constructive criticism, not the entitled bullshit spewed by people who are so deluded as to think that they are owed anything beyond what was created. These people fundamentally misunderstand the relationship between creator and audience and elevate it to a personal level, at which criticism becomes worthless because it lacks any semblance of objectivity.
The larger a fanbase, the larger the percentage of such individuals, and Star Wars in particular is such a cultural phenomenon, that by sheer probability, the number of obnoxious blowhards becomes much larger in volume.
Couple that with the way the internet allows anyone to own their own soapbox to declare to the world how sophisticated and superior their opinion is, and it's easy to see how such a positive thing like fandom can turn into such misguided toxic behaviour.
I hope that Sakurai is able to find a balance to offset this emotional drain, otherwise I'd advise him to stop making Smash Bros, as it's simply not worth it to endure the constant onslaught of bullshit spewed by a vocal minority, that in all honesty, hasn't much to do with the creation, but their own sense of entitlement.
But you can argue that smash isn't a real competitive game. Something something party gameSomething something all my friends played Brawl for 10 minutes and they hated it something something not competitive enough
Well Sakurai did describe Smash 4 as a "competitive action game" during the Final Smash Presentation, so there's that. But you can argue that smash isn't a real competitive game. Something something party game
HahahahahaFire Emblem characters are the Jar Jar Binks of Smash.
I bet a lot of creators feel the same way Sakurai does. You always hear from the fringe (fanboys and haters alike), never from the silent majority.
Lol sorry, sarcasm doesn't convey through text as well as person. I made a joke on the way some people interpret the gameWell Sakurai did describe Smash 4 as a "competitive action game" during the Final Smash Presentation, so there's that.
Especially on SmashBoards. I mean, holy shit.A pretty obvious indication of this is Bayonetta's inclusion. She was obviously very requested (she won the poll after all), but you mainly just hear complaining and bitterness about it.

You know, I heard Fox made the Final Destination run in 14 parsecs.
Have you seen Konami as of late?George Lucas would have kept snake in.
But Indy hates snakes!George Lucas would have kept snake in.
Its an apt comparison.
Sakurai made a good game by accident (melee) and then made a bunch of trash under the same banner because he failed to realize what people liked about it in the first place.
George would have put them back in shape.Have you seen Konami as of late?
The price must be paid. But Indy hates snakes!

I hear what Sakurai is saying. It was massively hard for Lucas though. The amount of vitriol spewed his direction is massive.
For me, I view him as an artist whose prequel trilogy did not resonate with the fans of the original trilogy. But Lucas continues to have my respect because as an artist, he created the art that HE wanted to make. When I look at The Force Awakens, I see how a corporation (Disney) makes story decisions simply to maximize return on investment. TFA is an exercise in cynical movie-making without an ounce of soul. The amount of fan-service instilled is incredible.... and it is all calculated.
I wish that GL would have shown more strength and give us the new trilogy as he saw it. But ultimately everyone has their limits. Even on this thread, we have this narrative that GL was not the reason for the SW's success. On other sites, we have the lauding of Martha Lucas, Gary Kurtz Etc... while GL is pissed on. Listening to constructive criticism is one thing. Pandering to them is altogether different. The artist has to balance the inner creative drive with the need to get better.
64 and Melee are the original series, Brawl and "for Wii U" and "for 3DS" is the prequel trilogy.
seems like he doesn't like all the criticism he gets from fans and less him making bad sequels
Ahh, this pointless crying is still music to my ears.
Can't wait for my sweet Bayonetta!!!
Its an apt comparison.

Well, the best as long as you're not playing Metaknight.
Even conspiracy theories to why she's even in. It's crazy.

It is truly sad.
The sense of entitlement and expectations from consumers today to deliver exactly what is expected of artists is disheartening.
We should appreciate art for what it is, not what we think or demand it should be imo.
Brawl. Other than that, the Smash games have generally been solid (Melee being the king, with Smash 4 in 2nd).
This is total bullshit. People don't play Smash because it's a highly technical and competitive game. People play Smash to see their favorite video game characters beat each other up. That has been the main appeal of the series since the beginning. Calling Brawl and the Wii U/3DS games trash is complete lies. Brawl has Melee beat in the content department by hundreds of miles while Wii U/3DS plays better than Melee and is much more accessible while still keeping it competitive. If anything Smash Bros. has improved since Melee it was never a one hit wonder. Hell do you think 15 years ago you would see Cloud Strife or even Mega Man in Smash? No, and that's whats awesome about the series. Seeing all those characters from all walks of life come together in the greatest crossover of anything ever.
Of course Melee also doesn't hold up well and a lot of people only like it because of nostalgia so there's that.
Its an apt comparison.

why isnt it bannable to say something outragous without backing it up?He made Melee and approved of Bayonetta. He doesn't have a clean track record.![]()
Where the fuck do you come up with nonsense like this?I can't quite tell, but Sakurai seems to be following the misunderstanding that George Lucas had much to do with the success or even the making of the original trilogy.
If we had gotten the Star Wars that George Lucas wanted to make, let's just say there would probably only have been one movie.
Making something, and completing it is a huge undertaking, and there are a lot of places where fans cant see. Its like building a house, but people focus on a single painting thats hung up on a wall in one room, and fixate on it, and keep listing off their complaints of that painting. These situations are very common.
Smash 64 = Star Wars
Empire = Melee
Jedi = brawl and smash 4?
