Samurai Shodown! Anthology Finally Coming... Next Week?!

It sucks that it's not online like the Japanese version, but I guess we should have expected that. I do regret importing it though, simply because my PS3 broke and I can't even play it anymore. $50 down the drain... :( But hey, SS6 and only $15, I'll make this my 3rd SS collection.

Preordered the PS2 version. I've been buying all of the SNK/Playmore releases as of late.

I'm thinking of getting them on the Wii. Are they any good...and have progressive scan.

Anyone know if this supports progressive scan on the PS2 version? Also, if you play the import Japan-region PS2 version, and you are in North America, can you still play online? I have a Jpn PS2 and am considering this, but I'm spoiled with online in fighters now. No point in an offline fighter, I have no friends interested. :(

I have the JP version, but I was never able to navigate through the menus well enough to get it online. I'm not even sure if you could play it online on the PS3 (don't see why not, but who knows), or if you have to pay to play it online. Anyway if you are interested in getting it, it's on sale for $40 @ Play-Asia right now. I'm also willing to trade mine since I can't play it anymore anyway...

Was it ever confirmed whether or not this anthology includes Samurai Showdown V Special?

Still totally worth it either way but eh curious.

edit: NEVERMIND

So I guess this does NOT have Samurai Shodown 5 Special after all? That's a shame, I think it's went on to become my favorite in the series. :(
The complete collection of the SAMURAI SHODOWN series, containing 7 games; Samurai Shodown, I, II, III, IV, V, V Special and VI

No, no online. They use some proprietary match-making service that costs money (per the minute, iirc). Probably no progressive scan either, I don't think there was in the original Tenka release.

That's great if so. But I'll wait for confirmation. On Amazon's own description page it at one point says this has 6 games and then another point says it has 7 games (incl. 5 special).

It still doesn't have Samurai Shodown 5 Special Final, but then again.. Who does?

PS2 version for me, will be great with the PS3 sticks!

SF4 makes me want an online SamSho ... but for $15? This is a steal

Yeah just bought KoF '98:UM ...will be picking this up next though I don't know if I wanna buy the PSP version or not.
Playing Orochi Saga via Memory stick was fucking bliss!

I want to buy this day one, but I think I'll wait until I see if there are any problems with either of the home versions. Recent SNK compliations on the PS2 have had some issues and the Wii version usually turn out to be the best of the bunch, but it's usually 10 dollars more expensive... :/

according to the dudes who picked up the JP version, SS V: Special is not included, tis a shame, but its not a fatal loss now is it? And this seems to be the last game SNK is releasing on their own for the foreseeable future, which would be a bad thing, but SNK sucks at distribution and rocks at everything else, so maybe its not.

I'll be getting the PS2 version as well, I suppose. BC FTW.

I can't believe the price for the PSP version. You'd have to pay ME to play 2D fighters like this or SF on the PSP, and they are charging twice as much. Yes, I realize some people play fighters on the PSP fine but...yuck.

I don't understand the appeal of fighting game anthologies. Aren't you just going to end up playing the best game in the series anyways. I would much rather have a single game with all the characters and backgrounds updated to the latest (or the best) gameplay style.

Why use a PS3 stick when these beauties exist? :D

on a semi-unrelated note, I wish the NEO GEO AES and it's games were more affordable on the used game market. I'd be all over it.

The price is bullshit and could be argued that's what you pay for convience. The PSP2000-3000 are actually excellent for fighters that aren't 6 button based, IE: SNK fighters
The Dpad is actually better than the Dualshock2's ....yes, I'm serious

With that, if you can't rip this to your Memorystick, than don't bother as loads time are poo via UMD

Yeah the JPN release didn't have it but that doesn't necessarily mean the US release will not. I said this above but Amazon's page both says it has 6 games and in another portion says it has 7 games (and lists of 5 Special). Confusing as can be.

Indeed it's not a fatal loss of course, but it would be very nice to have in there. The real draw of this collection is 6/Tenka IMO. I already own 5 Special on the ol' AES. :P

The JP Wii version of this doesn't appear to support GCN controllers for those interested.
Means i can't use my HRAP via adapter :(

The Ignition SSA site seems pretty explicit that the english version still contains only regular SS5

Considering how this should be a direct port of the Japanese version (which was fine) unless they add SS5S, I don't think you have much to worry about.

Depends what you want to buy for the AES. Most of the common stuff are great games and can be had for $20 to $50 each. System will run you around $150 w/one controller.

So I've seen pics in the pick up thread. I guess it is out finally. Hopefully I'll find it today in Toronto. My EB keeps telling me April 1st.. :/

Isn't V special on the PSN? (HK + JPN) The loading is terrrrrrrible in that one though.

Received the PS2 version yesterday.

Probably get a few hours out of this from SS1+2 nostalgia. Loads on SS2 were fantastic; SS6 loads were relatively poor.

Glad to support SNK with the purchase.

Actually yeah it is fatal. V Special is the best Samsho in the series for gameplay.

Can anyone comment on the PSP version?

It has a pretty horrible review on IGN for it, and I'm just wondering if it is as bad as they say or if it is even playable (at least in 1p)

I'm right on the cusp of rebuying a PSP, and this would be one of the games I get (along with Street Fighter Alpha 3, Tekken DR, and Soul Calibur)
