So, some minor thoughts on Shun:
- The resolution is locked like the other games, which means windowed or fullscreen (and that option isn't saved when you exit the game anyway)
- The game looks fine otherwise, though the dated graphics - while charming - show their age
- Still gotta bind the controls like other games if you want to use a control stick
- It's not three versions as marketed, but rather just one game that seems to include content from all games by the looks of it (except shilling fishing gear)
- I sadly don't know what's specific to each version of the game, but this version has a level progression map (it has not, however, specific detailed maps per level like the DS version did with the bottom screen)
- The menu UI is more or less identical to that of Sayonara
- The game uses lives like the SNES version, though you can earn continues in-game if you beat enough levels
- There is a replay/record function judging by the high score lists available, but I'm not entirely sure how to use it (if it even exists)
- Less randomly spawned enemies and a higher focus on platforming, basically pretty much in the middle between SNES and Sayonara
- It's more Umihara Kawase, really
It's a fun little game. This is the first time I've played these games and I sadly doubt I'll be able to finish them due to parts being were hard and bordering on aggravating, but I'm glad to have played them. I'd rank Sayonara highest due to being more polished and less focused on enemies (plus no lives), then Shun and lastly the SNES game. Shun got the best presentation, though. The surreal crayon-esque graphics fit well.
