Action RPG, Not Dragon May Cry

:c

Why isn't zelda u on the list? I swear to god they must be using the same environment engine because I thought I was looking at comparison shots between the two.

Yup I agree, this game isn't even in the same league as Horizon. Seriously, comparing an American dude bro with beats headphones around his neck on a dragon to Horizon is embarrassing.

Can we get back on topic and stop comparing Scalebound to Horizon?

Scalebound still looks great!

I like how the definition of Dudebro has expanded to basically just include "Everything I don't like."

You really can't win some video game fans, eh?

"Please show me something!"

"You're showing it too early!"

Publishers: "Hey, let's show them a pre-rendered trailer for a new IP ~2 years before we plan to ship the game!"

Fans: "Cool, but we want in-game stuff!"

Publishers: "Hey devs, fans want in-game stuff!"

Devs: "But it's not ready yet. The gameplay is still getting fleshed out; the performance will overshadow the nice graphics..."

Publishers: "We're gonna show it anyway!"

Fans: "The gameplay doesn't look fleshed out; the performance overshadows the nice graphics"

Contrarian Fans: "Hey now, this is pre-alpha, you can't judge it! By the way it looks absolutely amazing. This is why publishers should never show stuff early (yet keep doing it anyway, bless their hearts)."

Knock it off with the Horizon dickwaving and let's just have one thread about a platform exclusive game without console wars. I know it's hard, but I believe in you guys.

Everything about the way attacks connect, animate and enemies react to them looks pretty unsatisfying. Hopefully it was just a poor demo for showing off that aspect of the game, but I hope the melee combat ends up being more exciting than it looked.

Not a fan of the short sword's aether force or whatever extending it so far to make damage.

I understand if you want to have a short sword while also being able to hit huge monsters but I personally would rather have a game that features a long ass staff because they are dope. :-D

This felt like an anti Platinum game in some ways to me.

Great looking environments (but rather uninspired)
Extremely boring looking gameplay/combat

I just don't get it.

Oh and the main character is awful..try hard much?

I noticed this too. It doesn't look like a PlatinumGame at all. The combat is slow and looks kind of boring, and the graphics/art were great. I guess the guy kind of plays like a fighter in Dragon's Dogma with his shield but his melee abilities weren't nearly as interesting.

The dragon looks utterly useless. It's basically there to instakill stuff with airstrikes. I doubt I would use it much unless the combat really sucks. I was expecting the demo to finish with the guy riding his dragon wreaking havoc but the coop is kind of cool too, I guess. I just hope the dragon stops being a waste of hardware processing power. At least the grappling mechanic was cool but I would have preferred scaling beasts.

The main character looks extremely boring. He's as generic as they come. I wouldn't be surprised if they copied him off of some stock photo site and painted his hair white. He's also very annoying. Now, PlatinumGames is no stranger to silly/cheesy characters but there is usually something redeeming about them. Sam Gideon is a bloody badass and Jack from Anarchy Reigns is even more of an exaggerated badass and actually pretty cool. In fact, all of Anarchy Reigns characters are really cool. This guy is not. The way he talks to his animal and enemies pisses me off. I want to kick him in the throat. I like the head phone thing though.

The animations still look Platinum. With graphics at this level, it looks kind of weird. Japanese people have certain ways of animating themselves that we don't have in the west (at least I think they do judging from anime and games). The MC looks like a white guy moving like a Japanese guy. I hope they have a Japanese voice option. I think the MC would come off better that way (and his voice probably wouldn't piss me off as much).

All in all, I am a little disappointed. I expected this to be huge and something to make me want to rush out and buy an xbone but from what I have seen, it looks pretty skippable. I am glad that Platinum is branching out to making RPG's with this and Nier 2. Hopefully, this leads to an Okami sequel or spiritual successor. I really hope this reviews well.

It'll probably be in the September-November release window next year.
You really think Kamiya will make a huge open world action RPG in just 3 years? He took 4 years for a saturday cartoon action game with far less work needed to be done. No way is this releasing in a little over a year from now.

Am I the only one who believes having the main character put on headphones during combat is a genius idea? It will make for a more immersive soundtrack in my opinion.

Expected a stylish action game like Bayonetta or W101 but it still looks pretty good.
Some rough stuff but I'm sure the final game will be awesome, in Kamiya I trust.

I think he was mistaken with the word.

Dudebro would apply to someone like Marcus Fenix. The word he is looking for is ''Douchebag'', which is someone like Delsin.

Believe me, I'm an expert. I know everything about the terminology of videogames' culture. Heh.

Fucks sake, are we really posting up pictures of the main character of Horizon to argue a point in a Scalebound thread?

People really just cant help themselves anymore.

Sweet. Use the PM feature.

You should read the whole thread that came to that point, instead of vilifying those posting them out of context.

Comparisons will be made. And people will make shitpost one liners bashing element of another game, basically inviting that debate with more substance from others. Then they never respond when the damage was done.

I will agree they are off topic, but it's not always those posting them as the starter of it.

I am ho-hum about his design for this game. Just feels very generic and stands out of place with the world around him. Especially with the headphone thing. I will have to see more.

Man so many questions coming out of this gameplay footage. Definitely could be a great game but the gameplay ceiling/polish (couldnt really see combos, how things chain or how you use your dragon) just doesnt have that Platinum polish on it just yet.

Really hard to unsee reboot Dante - as someone said above hes kinda like a doucebag like Delsin. Ultimately I dont really think thats a hurdle at all

Normally I wouldnt bother with IGN Firsts as I usually know what games I want and dont want to be spoiled but with this Ill need to...

Douchebro? Does that exist yet?

Maybe that'll fit for now.

With Microsoft checking in and helping with development, completely.

I didn't watch the conference. Is this confirmed to be open-world? It looked more like large areas being connected to each other like The Last of Us.

No, you aren't. I love it and I trust that Platinum will have a badass soundtrack like usual. Didn't really like this first song though since it didn't feel very hype.

"You're showing it too early!"

This will always be a thing. Be transparent, don't be so eager to make sure your game is portrayed in the best possible light all the time, but don't expect us to keep things in context when what you have to show doesn't immediately blow us away.

I'm glad to see Platinum/Kamiya branching into different genres. People who just want 5 different DMC/Bayonetta games baffle me

I'd love to see them branch of in a different direction if it looks interesting, but what we've seen doesn't. And besides that it's not even different enough, it still looks to be pretty heavily based in melee combat, but now the combat just doesn't look that interesting.

As someone who was more interested about this game than anything else the e3 it was announced I'm pretty disappointed.

It just did not look very fun, I felt bored just watching it.

Also 4 player coop with 4 massive dragons stomping around just seems like an unfun crowded mess.

And that MC redefines obnoxious.

Lmao, Marcus Fenix is a dudebro now? XD

Meh might look slow cause of the framerate heh. It still more than a year away, and I have faith in Kamiya and Plat. Through I probably will never be able to play this as long as it XB One exclusive.

Delsin was actually clever and funny. He wasn't a douchebag at all either. He may come off that way from his face but if you played the game, you would see that he's actually a good guy. He's basically a more immature Drake. This Scalebound guy is stupid, cheesy and boring.

I think it's a cool idea too, it's like the silver guy in that kitchen scene in X-mans Days of Future Pass.

Holy fucking shit, Scalebound is now a "Dudebro" game?

Is "Dudebro" a new "Everything I don't like because reasons" buzz word or something?

Game looks like it has a lot of potential. The world is the most interesting aspect to me, though the gameplay has potential to be amazing. It's looking a bit rough there, but there's more than enough time. In terms of IPs, this is looking like one of the few X1 exclusives that is the most interesting of the bunch.

How is marcus a dude bro? Just because he's big/muscled? Foh

PlatinumGames is a very gameplay focused developer. I am positive that one of the first things they do when making a game is figure out the combat and how the player interacts with enemies. This game has been in development for more than 2 years. I think what we saw in that demo is pretty representative of what we'll be getting at release (performance issues aside).

Isn't it possible your first impression of the Scalebound guy will also change when you actually play the game?

this one didn't come off as a Platinum game at all for me in comparison to something like Bayonetta. the marking of buildings or enemies seems very basic and possibly exploitable.

I need to see more

When I watched the footage all I thought about was how awesome a spiritual successor to Okami could look on new hardware.
