Scalebound Gameplay Demo [extended IGN First demo in OP]

What game does Scalebound most remind you of?

With Microsoft checking in and helping with development, completely.
That means jack shit, really, if this is going to be a big game. Nintendo probably supported Platinum with the development of Wonderful 101 and that still took almost 4 years. This seems to be Kamiya's biggest game yet (and it's on a whole new technical level). 3 years seems too short.

Delsin was actually clever and funny. He wasn't a douchebag at all either. He may come off that way from his face but if you played the game, you would see that he's actually a good guy. He's basically a more immature Drake. This Scalebound guy is stupid, cheesy and boring.

So we would know about Delsin if we actually played the game and how different he is from first look. However, this character is stupid cheesy and boring based on......pre alpha footage? Shouldn't we play it first?

Like the other guy saying 4 player coop with dragons sounds like a stupid mess. What? I would love to play with friends AND dragons. Lol we have seen no footage of it yet to make any observations.

I kind of get the feeling that the combat is suffering from the fact that it's currently set to conference difficulty, which is only a step above "put on a blindfold and play with your feet" tier. Ramp up the difficulty to the point where you're not one shotting everybody (that isn't a giant monster), and I suspect it'll improve noticeably.

UE4 and transitioning to the agile development model can work wonders.

I'm glad to see Platinum/Kamiya branching into different genres. People who just want 5 different DMC/Bayonetta games baffle me

It's not like it looks like bayo is getting another sequel anytime soon, MGR2 (if it existed) was likely canned (or at best put on the backburner), and DMC5 is only rumors, teasing, and speculation. It's understandable people want a better outlook on the future of the genre.

And I'm serious about sticking Zelda on the poll.

How is marcus a dude bro? Just because he's big/muscled? Foh

I think, but then again every male main character is a dudebro
We all dudebro.

Good too see this game isn't vaporware or development hell.
Im interested to see how the skill tree will look like.
If im not mistaken i saw multiple weapon types on the coop characters.
Hope that modern casual clothing is only for in the beginning.

[Delsin] may come off that way from his face but if you played the game, you would see that he's actually a good guy.

but if you played the game

played the game

Easy games can still be dynamic and satisfying. The Scalebound demo's melee combat appears to be neither.

I liked everything I saw but the framerate, but that might be due to shitty youtube. Fuck this and Halo Wars 2, wow.

You really can't win some video game fans, eh?

"Please show me something!"

"You're showing it too early!"
Here is an idea (I know it's pretty crazy and very out there) announce your game it when it's ready. But hey, we gotta make the CG trailer at least one year ahead of showing anything else because we gotta get that pre-order train started.

"You shouldn't talk about inFamous 3's characters unless you played the game. I haven't played this game but I am confident all the things you said about inFamous 3's characters actually apply here."

I just made an account here but shit this site really is horrible. Every Xbox exclusive thread gets hammered with concern trolling. If this were a PS4 exclusive this place would be covered in semen after that demo. Pathetic. Fuck this place.

So this maroon has never been in an Order 1886 thread, Infamous SS thread, or Killzone thread. Shit, even TLOU gets shat on by people. Quickest gray name ever.

I thought the game looked fine except for the frame rate. I guess it's hard to please everyone when a lot of gamers like to nit pick every detail and complain about anything and everything. Omg the headphones, so what, at first glance I was like what? But then I just went with it. People need to learn to just go with it. Frame rate will probably improve when the game is closer to being released.

I found the demo a little disappointing but it still looks great and has serious potential. I wasn't expecting it to be open world or an action RPG. Scalebound is probably my most anticipated XB1 exclusive at the moment.

This games feels me with the salt. Dunno what guys are talking about besides early impressions of the cheesy dialog, frame rate issues is not a concern for me this far out. Looks like it could be a great game imo...

Looks great. Hadn't really followed Platinum before, but people seem to be excited by their games and track record... Regardless, I was actually not looking forward to this game until after viewing this trailer. It looks great, and despite the framerate, looks fun.

I never asked Microsoft to blow their load of game announcements at E3 2014 and neither would I have wanted to see footage this rough from Scalebound now. MS knew they had shit all coming to Xbox 1 soon at the time of E3 2014 and instead of owning up to that shortage of games, they announced games like Scalebound, Crackdown & Phantom Dust way too early. Now Phantom Dust is in some development limbo and who knows if it will ever get out there, Scalebound was shown in a super rough shape with probably at least 1,5-2 years of development time still left and Crackdown didn't really seem ready to be shown either (the level of destruction seemed impressive, but otherwise it was still lacking).

Like Poodlestrike mentioned, streamlined development tools with UE4 will work wonders as well. How much of W101's development was a) figuring out a legitimate use for the gamepad and b) optimizing for the Wii U?

The Mantis fight definitely reminds me of Dragon's Dogma. Are the headphones on the main character integrated into the gameplay?

The graphics and designs all look great. However the speed and combo flows don't really look like a typical Platinum game (especially no trademark QTE).

"You shouldn't talk about inFamous 3's characters unless you played the game. I haven't played this game but I am confident all the things you said about inFamous 3's characters actually apply here."

That isn't entirely accurate. You can tell that Delsin isn't a d-bag in the gameplay demos. However, you can tell that Scalebound guy is a d-bag in this gameplay demo, imo at least. There is also the fact that inFamous games are more story focused and have more story cutscenes than PlatinumGames usually has. PlatinumGames cutscenes are usually the character spouting one-liners and explosions. There typically isn't much of a story at all, at least a comprehensible one. It would definitely be a departure from the norm if the Scalebound MC developed as a character and stopped being annoying.

I don't necessarily like the look of the MC, and the fact he is left-handed bothers me a little, but what exactly is the issue; he's upbeat and cracks lame jokes? I have no idea where this dudebro shit is supposed to stick. He looks like a teenaged hipster Anderson Cooper.

For better or worse, he at least stands out, and I'm over the dark, serious protagonists. People were saying the same shit about the Sunset Overdrive protag and that game is loved.

I for one love these type of characters that seem aware of the fact they're badass heroes with badass powers and, in this case especially, badass companions.

The game looks rough, but it's still pre-alpha footage with at least 15 months of dev time left. I don't think Kamiya has ever made a bad game, and he of all people deserves a bit more credit than he is being given right now.

lol

You should read the whole thread that came to that point, instead of vilifying those posting them out of context.

Comparisons will be made. And people will make shitpost one liners bashing element of another game, basically inviting that debate with more substance from others. Then they never respond when the damage was done.

I will agree they are off topic, but it's not always those posting them as the starter of it.

I am ho-hum about his design for this game. Just feels very generic and stands out of place with the world around him. Especially with the headphone thing. I will have to see more.

I read the whole discussion up until that point....didn't require pictures of a character from a game that has fuck all to do with Scalebound. Thanks anyway for trying to educate me on the intricacies of Neogaf but the point stands. PM's save threads from getting shit up. That being said it's only going to get a lot worse from here on out, I'm sure the Tomb Raider review thread will be another stain on this great forum.

As for the main character I'm with you in not particularly liking his design. Hopefully we can customise him like you can the Dragon.

As far as I'm concerned, Kamiya has a 100% hit rate.

Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Bayonetta, Wonderful 101. A very sterling record in my eyes. I recognize not everyone feels that way, but these are certainly very beloved games across the board.

Yes, I agree. His is one of the few amazingly positive records outside of Ninty crew.

SB looks fucking great for a pre-alpha game with a year and some change to go. Glad they revealed co-op, as I'm hoping for some customization to hide the character who seems better than the announcement video, but still a bit unappealing to me, like yet another spin on Dante and not someone a bit more fun and distinct, like Bayonetta or the W101 crew. That IGN vid was far superior as a first real look at it, too.

I'd love to play with friends and dragons.

But not if it ends up being a bloody slideshow.

That demo met every single one of my expectations not disappointed.
For the record. I expected:
Open world
Lackluster combat due to them not handling open world much.
Bad framerate cause you know early and thats typically worked on near the end as I understand it.
Character design that made me go meh...

So it was spot on and im not disappointed in the least.
