Never heard The Prodigy be classified as rock music before...

I love the looks of the game and the dragon interaction, but HATE HATE HATE that rock music during big fights. The music afterwards when just walking through the world was good, though.

Game of the show.

Looks like Xbox One will have its own "Horizon". Looking forward to this more than any other Xbox One game.

Both games have ugly main characters so you may be right.

Although Horizon's protagonist is much more tolerable.

I'm sure any performance issues will get sorted by the time of release. It's Platinum, they know their shit and stay under budget.

On the other hand, watching this and the extended gameplay the combat looks slow and not very fun. It's almost like looking at a prettier Drakenguard 3. Even the commands given to the dragon seem kinda plain. In the cutscenes it's very much shown they have a connection, they can talk and joke with each other. That doesn't translate in the gameplay they've shown so far.

Still very interested, but a tad cautious.

Gameplay looks extremely off to me, which is strange considering how good Platinum is.

Looks slow and tedious. Music is shit in my opinion, but it does look nice graphically.

Graphically it looks great, gameplay feels really slow though and didn't feel visceral, movement and attacks lack that snappiness, surprising for a Kamiya game.

Wat. She is one of the best female character designs I've ever seen in this industry. It is actually quite sad that you're saying she is ugly... that is why we have sexualized female designs with perfect bodies and big boobs in this industry. The character from Horizon is beautiful in her own simplicity and naturality.

From the Xbox website of Scalebound.

Oh ok thanks.

This is also pretty interesting: "Master accessible but deep “stylish action” gameplay. Fluidly chain attacks with your dragon to create devastating combos to unleash upon your foes."

I guess the whole chain attacks with your dragon thing didn't translate well to the demo at all

This and KI was definitely my highlights of the show. Day one for me. I want to see other dragons and what powers they give you. Gameplay looks very fun though

The dragon will probably have more moves in the final game than "fireball, smash, tail whip."

Wouldn't be surprised if the skill tree or move unlocks include unlocking moves for him.

When I was watching Scalebound, it kept feeling sort of like Horizon in certain ways, but just plain worse. Horizon is more stylish, a better universe, a better main character, and light years better visuals. In an odd way, seeing Scalebound got me excited -- For Horizon.

That said, I like Scalebound, and if I can handle the main character's obnoxiousness I may get it (I have the good fortune of owning both PS4 and XB1).

Caucasian girl with dreadlocks? Red haired? I mean so natural...

Don't get me wrong I know what you mean and I agree to some extend, but then they should have make an african woman, that would've been ballsy indeed.

This way it seems they were going for it and at some point they were.... you know what paint it white, because focus group.

Loved the art direction, the dragons and enemies looked great, the level was gorgeous but the combat looked not so great and the main character hit a nerve that made me cringe quite a bit. I was hoping this would sell me on an X1 and from this first showing, I'm pretty disappointed. Too early to wrote it off because I can see potential here, the boss at the end there looked badass and the co op could be fantastic. Pretty underwhelmed by that showing but I look forward to seeing more. Hopefully they tone down the chatty Cathy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure unlocking new moves for the dragon will be a feature. I'm more interested in seeing how the player can integrate the character's and dragon's moves into a single combo though because they both seem to be doing their own thing in the demo. Probably stuff for a future gameplay trailer.

Nah. She's ugly, but I digress.

------------

I wonder if you'll be able to mount the dragon during exploration or combat and not just in cutscenes. Would be nice to explore that way.

I hope you can grapple to the dragon and then kick off him for a super stinger. GIVE IT TO ME KAMIYA

Gameplay wasn't what I expected. I'll echo the slow and duller than I'd expect from platinum.

Also why are we stuck with Dante again? It's one thing for a flashy action game but an action RPG? Ehhhh

Kamiya is now officially my man. The only problem is ethical, should I buy an Xbox One when I already have a PS4 and a WiiU?

You guys complaining about Dante rehash, of course you bought Wonderful 101, right?

Gameplay looked great to me. Bet it's faster once it's an actual finished product. But the dragon looked amazing and it seems you can grapple to monsters backs to deal damage. And four player coop, excellent. What Dragons Dogma should have been day one (I still greatly enjoyed DD).

This. Any technical problems you guys have with the game our way too premature. The game played fluid and had so really interesting combo mechanics. Plus you can climb on bosses to find weak spots, yes please.

I accept the general idea that it's not quite "fair" to criticize a lot of things if it's pre-alpha, but realistically I'm looking at how poor the framerate is, the fact that it's an open world and trying for fidelity -- I would just be genuinely shocked if this was a stable 30 at retail. I'm expecting 20-25 fps.

The good

- Graphically, it's pretty impressive. The effects are there, like absorbing and the afterimages from slashes.
- A weapons system! Thank god. I hate being tied to one weapon and that was one of my biggest fears when watching the first part of the video.
- Coop. It's not splitscreen, but man, if they can get it to work, it'll be something.
- A level up system. I know people were expecting a DMC styled thing where you buy moves, but it might be okay to have a simplified leveling system that morphs you and your dragon as you progress without breaking the game.
- Speaking of morphing, that Devil Trigger was sick. Seems like you can stay it in fairly long. It'd be kind of cool if the game is focused around staying in DT while commanding your dragon.
- Maybe it was just the AI for the demo, but it's good to see the Dragon choosing to do smart shit instead of randomly batting out attacks.
- Character didn't grate on me all that much, actually.
- Favorite staples like Stingers are in.

The bad

- The framerate was ass most of the time
- Are these attacks cancelable? Lord I hope so
- The climbing system was pretty generic.
- I really hope that dragon doesn't spend most of the time obscuring the camera with his ass in my face.
- Commands seemed to be contextual, which saves the player from having to combat the AI, but loses depth.
- UI is looking rough.
- Artstyle...eh. I love how the game looks on a technical level, just not from an artstyle perspective.
- Please please please don't be like an open world game consisting of collecting shit and doing things like scaling posts. I would forgive this system if the game isn't painful about doing those things.
- Can I ride that dragon or not? Can I control it?
- Another dragon on screen with my dragon fighting a big ass enemy. That poor camera.

In summation, if they can answer some of the bigger questions bugging me and fix the framerate, it'll be a fun outing. It's not making me drool for an Xbox One, but it is making my stomach growl.

I don't man, I think she's one of the ugliest characters I've seen in a long time.

Weird, wasn't what I was expecting at all. Combat looks... like Too Human?

I don't like the intentional slowdown on the hits, nothing flows from one swipe to the next. I'll keep my eye on it since the dragon interaction and world seem interesting, but kinda feeling 'eh' right now.

I'm really glad Platinum is going to break away from their now very by the numbers verse/mission structure of levels. It makes all of their games feel a little too familiar after a while.

I also think it will be good for them business wise to get good at action RPGs which have much greater potential to sell than pure action games, as they well know. This and Nier should give them good experience of how to make solid RPG mechanics while retaining great action gameplay.

As for the actual game, I love everything aesthetically except the MC design and voice/grunts which are bad (and his lip-syncing). I also really didn't like the music going from standard RPG overworld stuff into this kind of bad techno thing for combat.

Combat mechanics looked rough but this is early. Lots of potentially exciting stuff to do in the game.

I think the structure could end up open world (has this been confirmed?) but this did kind of feel like a "level". I could see it being closer to something like Drakengard 3 in structure, albeit with much wider corridors.

I agree with this. Horizon main char ("Aloy" if I recall) is anything but ugly. Definitely one of the best fantasy female designs in modern gaming.

Both games have ugly main characters so you may be right.

Although Horizon's protagonist is much more tolerable.

Horizon has one of the best character designs in recent history and Scalebound has maybe one of the worst and most annoying I've ever seen.

First if all they are braids.

Second of all if it is the UK Isle/Ireland region where her tribe is, she is naturally looking the part.

Third you don't need it "painted black" to be edgy.

I don't man, I think she's one of the ugliest characters I've seen in a long time.

Yet you provide zero reasons to support your opinion. Why is she the "ugliest in a long time" to you?

If someone had told me this was a Kamiya game I probably wouldn't have believed them.

Outstanding visuals but the combat looked really iffy. Also that framerate but I guess the game is still early.

It does look unKamiya-like janky.

"Pre-Alpha" is the most bullshit term in the industry today. Everyone uses it incorrectly and constantly.

If this was actual pre-alpha then there'd be no particle effects, no animations, basic textures... bleh.
