SCEA: PS3 Supply May Be "Tight" In Coming Months

Valkyr Junkie said:
Don't worry, they've probably been shifting a lot of units to the PAL markets in recent months because they know console demand is going to be high in both Europe and North America, but one of those regions pays a whole lot more than the other. Take a guess which?

Who gives a shit? :lol

Johnny in NA wants a new PS3, but settles for a 360 because it's in stock and plays Battlefield or whatever the fuck.

There's no way to spin that as a good thing. What I said stands.

My question is, why doesn't Johnny already have a 360.

He did, but he wanted a new one after his fifth RRoD. People actually think one console can sub for another? The exclusives and features separate them too much IMO. If you want to play Halo with friend, you do not buy a PS3, conversely you do not buy a 360 to play GoW3, Heavy Rain or watch BD movies.

...

Two of my neighbors have done exactly that. One balked at the PS3 price and got a 360, the other couldn't find a PS3 in stock. Both were for kids who are from 10-14 years old. Their parents made the decision. Both kids wanted a PS3. Both got MW2 and a 360.

I think some of you are out of touch with who's buying these gaming systems. Too much GAF I think.

With the general public, the differences seem to matter very little. Do they both play games? Do they both get most of the same games? Are they both in HD?

EDIT: I'm talking to DeadGruz :lol

Poor kid is gonna cry when he cant download the map pack to play with his friends since they obviously got an arcade.

of course. thats the way it works. even if you liked ps3 features more, you look at few stores, you get 360 because its there. there is no way around that.

We agree, and for some reason I'm not sure that's a good thing. :lol

Actually, you are 100% right. One of them is saving his money up for a HDD now. He's kinda pissed.

That just tells me they care about MW2 more than they do PS3.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. I guess it's all about the games.

BTW, gregor said the parents "made the decision".

Tutomos said:

Well, yeah. That's the point.

Kids don't want gaming systems to support some corporation like GAF nutjobs do. They see the MW2 commercial and want to play the game. Both owned PS2's, both would have gone with a PS3 because they owned a Sony product before and they liked it. In the end, both system play the games they want to play and one is cheaper/available.

EDIT: cheaper in the short term that is. That's probably a whole different conversation though.

I understand the argument, there are definitely people doing that. But I think when most people see that GOW3 commercial and wanting to get a PS3, they would have waited for the system to be available.

You mean Retail musing thread vs NPD :lol

I really think the biggest separation between Gaf and reality is how valued exclusives are. They seem to be the plateau of system war arguments, yet the effects of the majority of them seem to be min once sales come out(This being invalid to Nintendo of course:lol). They'll sell solid for a month, sway a few people, others will tell stories about the dozens they know who changed how they looked at games, etc. Maybe they'll chart a 2nd time. Then they'll get buried under the big Multiplatform HD titles and Nintendo. Which the 360 and PS3 seem to be extremely interchangeable for(Outside of their 1 or 2 major releases a year).

I think there are way more of these systems being bought by parents (for their kids) than there are people buying these for themselves.

The people buying them for themselves may very well be the people you describe. I just don't think there are that many of them.

Has anyone seen new PS3 slims out there yet? I'm talking about the new lighter models. one of my friends wants to buy one and I told him to wait a bit.

I think the truth lie somewhere in between. I agree one exclusive game doesn't have as much sway as some of the GAF members make it out to be, I also agree most people that care about GOW3 probably already have a PS3, but the reality you speak of, you are giving the average consumer and the parents too little credit. They do know the difference between Xbox360 and PS3.

Is system availability more of a system seller than exclusive games? Maybe. For me it's irreverent because we might just be talking about a few hundred units difference here.

seems like gamestops in socal got restock... not huge but decent supply, at least online check shows that. Still a lot less stores have PS3 than Wii...

You told your friend to wait over less than half a pound in weight difference? Does he sprain his wrist masturbating?

Where have all the PS3s gone......?

The Slim I bought from the special Dell sale on March 9th had an estimated delivery date of the 26th, this Friday.

Now updated to April 12th.

Your neighbours bought a ten year old kid MW2? That's kind of messed up.

that's the reality unfortunately. all these rating systems for movies and games and whatnot and most of the time no one really cares.

I am mostly irritated because I wanted to take advantage of Gamestop's promotion where you could trade in a system towards the purchase of a new system and get 30 extra dollars. I wanted to get rid of my 60 gig towards a slim, but nobody had any in stock. Grrrrrrrr.

Poor Sony. I feel bad for them given that they seem to have their heads in the right place when it comes to game development. But fuck me, they have no clue when it comes to the hardware. They're running in circles.

WTF!!

Yeah they are back in stock at BB website but online only..bet if I go to my local BB they should have some. Still haven't decided if I should get my Phat fixed or buy a slim...money is limited :( in the meantime I am missing out on GOWIII :( :(

realy stupid from Sony, i mean couldent they have guessed that people would want a PS3 with all these games coming out for it

You think it was intentional? oO Read up the thread, there was a problem with the manufacturing of some components. Many companies were affected by this.

Thanks going to check out Best Buy now.

If you have a local SonyStyle or Sony outlet store, they keep getting stock once or twice a week. I'm in Miami and both stores at the moment has them in stock. I'm still debating if i should re-buy a PS3, but I want to play God of War III and Uncharted 2 so bad !
