SCEA: PS3 Supply May Be "Tight" In Coming Months

Is there a thread on GAF that describes how best to wipe your PS3 Fat of its memory and your personal info in preparation for a Slim?

If you have a local SonyStyle or Sony outlet store, they keep getting stock once or twice a week. I'm in Miami and both stores at the moment has them in stock. I'm still debating if i should re-buy a PS3, but I want to play God of War III and Uncharted 2 so bad !

Yea, SonyStyle store in Kansas City also had some in stock as well. Only place I have seen them recently.

Dunno about a thread but the most important thing is to de-license it for both video and gaming from your account settings.

After that you can do whatever.

I have a question, maybe somebody can answer it for me. I had a previous PSN account where I purchased some games, etc. If I get a new PS3 slim, can I use the same account and download whatever I purchase on the new Slim ?

Yes you can its considered "game sharing" and I use it all the time to share between the PS3 in bedroom and living room.

Bear in mind if you stop using or sell off the old console you should Deactivate your account on the machine because you can only put your account on a limited (3 or 5 I forget) number of PS3's.

One note: You cannot share video because Sony lets you activate only ONE ps3 for video not 3-5 machines like gaming.

Don't forget to de-activate unused, dying, retired PS3's because resetting your account is a pain and Sony won't reset your account for you more than once.

I sold my PS3 almost a year ago but I don't remember seeing the option to de-activate the account. If remember correctly, I just re-format the hard drive and I restored back to factory settings. Will I have a problem getting everything back ?

I did the same a week before slim ps3 announcement (hence, got a good price) Anyway, if I ever want to get a ps3 or more likely ps4, I don't mind starting over. It's not like I have achievement scores that I care about on it. No, I don't care about the trophy thingy.

Actually, you are 100% right. One of them is saving his money up for a HDD now. He's kinda pissed.

You should have been there to tell them then. Obviously you're not a good friend, letting them spend more money for less.

Under Account Management there is a place to deactivate check for it.

Just activate the New PS3 with your account and you will get all your software back no problem.

What this means though is this. You are allowed to have 5 active PS3 consoles with this account. One of them has been "lost" because its tied to a machine you sold and reformatted.

Now you only have 4 "licenses" left. You could have recovered that last one if you de-activated before you sold it.

As a LAST LAST resort you can ask sony to "reset" your PSN account and you will get all 5 back but WARNING they only do it once for a customer by policy. They will NEVER (by policy) reset it for you twice so don't do it until you absolutely have to. Begging and yelling won't change this policy.

Great, thanks for the response. I believe I shared my previous account with my newphew and somebody from Neogaf, so I should be fine. If any problems, I will contact Sony.

I read somewhere on GAF they were reducing the accounts from 5 to maybe 3 or 4.
I don't know if that is true since I don't have 5 PS3's and I didn't share my account.

Just be aware of the limit. Also you can only have 1 active machine for Video.
You might try to enable this new PS3 for video just to see if it works.

If not then your single "License" for video from the PSN store is stuck somewhere on another machine.

If people are looking for a PS3, they might want to check Best Buy. One location I went to yesterday had one left. Another location I checked today had a few. This is in the state of MD.

So Cal LA GAF: Best Buy City of Industry got in about 20 PS3s today. Just picked mine up. Its the only store in the district that got em in. Can't wait to play The Show!

I think there are way more of these systems being bought by parents (for their kids) than there are people buying these for themselves.

The people buying them for themselves may very well be the people you describe. I just don't think there are that many of them.

I don't think a lot of you gaffers realize how true this is. Or maybe you forgot how things worked when you were a kid. When I worked at Target, guess who I sold more copies of halo, gta, madden, etc too? Parents! I've had parents come in looking for Xbox's, and end up getting a PS2 because it was in stock and cheaper.

Stores in northern Indianapolis area have them now too, if anyone's looking. Best Buy and Frys had them, anyway.

Just picked up my new PS3 slim for the Sonystyle store ... 45 mins away from my house :(
Can't wait to play GOW III ... just finished GOW II yesterday on my PS2, one less game from the backlog.

Cancelled my order, figured that since many places are getting big shipments in, Dell, who I bought from originally at a discount but was long delayed should get them soon.

EDIT: LOL, Dell just sent me shipping notice! I briefly "had" two Slims.

Bought one as well... how can you tell how many they have in stock?
Add to your cart, and edit quantity to 999.
It'll allow you to do so if they have more than that amount, it'll reduce it to current stock (like 283, or 941) if there's less.

Best Buy.com has the 120 in stock and shipping. Checked the in-store stock from some random zipcode in Ohio and every single store had the 250 in stock. Seems like Sony finally shipped them out.

awesome, im going to go to gamestop tomorrow and hope they got some in. I have off for spring break next week so this would be extra sweet.

I walked into the Sunnyvale, CA Fry's tonight to get a PS3 Slim. No problems. They only had like 6 out on the floor but Fry's likes to keep a backstock and will bring more out when the ones out front get sold.

So they were doing something with a hardware revision? What shitty timing, didn't one of their manufacturers close down some factories or something?

I'm still having trouble finding one around my area. I guess I could Amazon it, but I'm never home so I'd hate to do that. What do think Sony's next bundle will be? Maybe I should just wait for that.

Awesome. Which store did you see it at?

Are they easily spotable on the box?

Best Buy. Seems all the new shipments are these... easiest way to check is on the serial number bar code area.

Yup during the last fiscal results conference the CFO said that they were planning to have a revision in spring which would allow them to break even on the hardware. Then they plan a further revision during fall which will allow them to make a profit on each unit sold. So there should be two hardware revisions this year.
Sony should announce their FY2009 results among with the FY2010 forecast in a few weeks.
It will be interesting to see their numbers. Looking at their forecast we can understand if they are planning an other PS3 price cut this year, what they're gonna do with the PSP and if PS2 is about to be discontinued.

My store doesn't have any and we haven't seen a shipment of them in over a week. We have 1 box on the way (that's 3 PS3's mind you) but that's it. I'm in the south east though so who knows if it's a regional thing or if Sony is still trying to get caught up in some markets.

So... With the current slim 250GB, the trade in is @ $200 I think. Since I got it for a gift, shelling out ~$120 for a new SKU wouldn't be a bad idea. My issue is that I can't sell the OG slim until I get the new since I need to migrate the data...which will take forever.
