It's all part of Sony's worldwide Geocaching game.

I don't like driving around much since I'm new to this place. I don't know if there's a Fry's here around Atlanta but I can say that in my search for the mythical ps3 this weekend I've driven more than I have in the past month

dunno why they do this since many of these are actual Stores and not just "persons" like ebay , the cheaper "new " one from these sellers is $380+ , and the $775 douchebag put the PS3 as new but in "Comments" he said it has 500GB HDD ( so the sellers broke the seal already)
pretty much, nothing to get excited about.gcubed said:99% of things at a premium like that dont sell

Wow, Sony wasn't kidding......
Are you saying Sony will take my dead PS3 and offer me a discounted Slim?OldJadedGamer said:Why are you looking in the store? Call Sony at 800-345-SONY and they will offer you a slim unit for near the cost of the repair of your fat and like 1/2 the price of a new unit.
NinjaFusion said:Seems like the PS3 is really gaining speed... in the UK at least...
I don't really think so. The main reason we probably saw tons of slim consoles last year was because Sony was producing many of them for a while (way before it came out). But since they probably didn't predict as big of a demand a while ago, that's probably why they can't get enough out. And who knows, there might have been a factory problem or issues shipping the consoles here we don't know about.hxa155 said:Well, I guess it's safe to say that Sony has screwed up pretty bad. FFXIII is coming in 2 days and they're still having problems.

Except hardly anyone manufactures 120gb laptop drives any more. Given you're dealing with a single platter either way, it makes more sense to go 250gb.jcm said:That rumor never made a ton of sense to me. Of all the parts to run low on, HDD seems about the least likely. There's quite a few potential sources, and lots of manufacturing capacity.

Yes, but you'll still be paying for 250gb drives at a non volume price if you're forced to go elsewhere temporarily. Don't forget that they're contracted for millions of 120gb drives with certain manufacturers, and get extremely competitive prices because of it.jcm said:HDD manufacturers will firmware limit your drive to any size you specify. Even if they are only making 250GB platters, they'll be happy to make them into 120s if you want.

Cruzader said:I want to know more about this. I want to open my 80GB BC PS3 to clean in up but if it dies later on I wont be able to do such a thing as trade it in and get slim at half price. More details please.
Still says backordered for me.BoilersFan23 said:It appears that GameStop.com got in the 120GB consoles, but not the 250GB ones (from what I heard and saw).

There is incredible pent up demand for PS3 right now and with incredible software momentum right for PS3 with Heavy Rain, MLB: The Show, BioShock 2 and God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, so we expect to see inventory to be tight for a bit longer, said Seybold, speaking ahead of GDC this week.
Were working hard with our retail partners to meet that demand.

NPD and Media Create are / will be indicators... but we wont really know for sure until their next financial results (Middle of May) when we'll see their updated shipment figures.RamzaIsCool said:The big question is why these shortages are occuring. Is it because of huge demand outpacing supply or production problems resulting in supply problems.

Still big fuck up from Sony's part, they shouldn't have been in this situation. Not now!

I'm BUZZED for FF13! I have an xbox but i lent it to my brother so I figured its the best time to get a ps3 anyway. Thanks for the tip Kagari and others.
The Wii was in this situation because it sold faster than any other system in history.obaidr said:You cant say for sure. I guess the next NPD thread will give some more information about this. The Wii was in the same situation because they sold every single console they made in a second.

The producers cut back heavily on production when the economy took a downturn and now they can't supply the big companies fast enough. Apple and Nokia both have similar issues, they can't assemble enough products because there are no components to buy. I don't think you can really blame Sony for this.
