not sure what you are disagreeing with but since you bolded the rogue warrior part I checked:

eh. it wasn't Rebellion Oxford though. It was Rebellion Derby who used to be Core Games. they got shut down not long after Rogue Warrior came out.

basically, Core games made Rogue Warrior as released in a very short space of time. the same people that made the first few good tomb raider games, and then the middle shitty ones (last one they made was Angel of Darkness... it was a shitty bug filled mess like I understand Rogue Warrior turned out).

so, no, it's not really the same team that made Rogue Warrior.

OH THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!! :D

i had kind of low expectations for this but if its a different studio then hopefully it will deliver

So AvP is the Oxford studio? Just out of interest, what have they developed?

I'm not sure, wikipedia lists all games made by Rebellion itself, and doesn't say which studios made them.

i know Oxford made everything that came out while Core still existed as a seperate entity. so that includes the good (Alien vs Predator on Jag, Aliens vs Predator on PC, Rogue Trooper) games, the bad games (Judge Dredd) and the inbetweens (Sniper Elite).

anything after that... the only ones i know as a fact are Rogue Warrior being Rebellion Derby, and AvP being Oxford again.

I too was very worried by Rogue Warrior until I found out who it was made by. I think Rebellion have brought their A game this time. AvP was the franchise that made them. That has to get them to try their hardest. It gives them a lot to live up to. As does having to live up to the licensed properties.

If they drop the ball on a new AvP... i think they're basically done as a studio. If they can't motivate themselves to make a great new game given these circumstances, when will they ever?

So far, everything I've seen basically lends me to believe that they've recaptured the magic again. I hope I'm not mistaken. I upgraded my PC to be ready for this game.

edit: yes I know the elephant in the room is the AvP game they made on PSP... but I don't know which studio made it, and any movie tie in like that, that's bound to a shit movie and a hard release date and to be on a portable like that... I don't think it'd be fair to expect such a thing to stand up to the proper games in the series.

Couple of things i dislike after seeing the gameplay videos.

Predator
- interface is cluttered at times, giant lock on graphics, the jump position, even the default visor interface is a bit too much.
- claw hits a bit weak? They don't make me fell like a badass if i have to box with a marine.
- only thermal vision, no special mode for aliens? /sadface

Alien
- "press X to transition or whatever". This could slow down the gameplay and make it less enjoyable. In old AvP you just hold the crouch button to move where and how ever you liked.

Other that this, the game looks really good. Can't wait to play!

The Predator definitely has a special Alien visor. I've seen it back at the E3 vids. It just hasn't been featured much lately.

There's 4 vision modes. Alien/Predator/Marine/normal.

Edit - Already beaten.

I've only seen 3 modes: normal, one that picks up aliens, and one that picks up humans and preds. I think streamlining it is probably a good thing.

I agree with eveything you said, except about Sniper Elite which was a great game.

You are correct, there are only 3. Thermal picks up humans and predators, then there is a greenish view that makes aliens show up neon green, and then normal vision.

Rebellion has made the last two Battlefront psp games as well. But I blame Lucasarts for their shitty quality.

They also made the shitty AVP game for the PSP.... Lucasarts was not involved in that.

Oh shit, they did?

Ehh...to be fair, that was a movie cash-in....for the PSP.

I would give a similar pass to the Star Wars games then too no? Especially with the concept of trying to stuff the Battlefront series onto the PSP... it was an awkward decision.

Damn, that looks fast and tense! Cant wait for this demo, it's gonna decide if I purchase or pass. Really hope it's good though, I've had my eye on this game for a while.

Hmm well I'd hold out for reviews.. MP demo might suck but the SP might be good :p.

Demo is up on Steam, downloading now:

The multiplayer demo will allow gamers the chance to play as all three species - the Colonial Marine, the Predator and the Alien - and pitch their skills against each other in Deathmatch mode on Refinery, one of the game's multiplayer maps.

From what I've seen this is a rather limited demo they've been showing around for a while: just direct x 9, one map, only free for all deathmatch, buggy matchmaking...

Might have been better to just put the first half hour of the marine campaign or something.

1up had a '1up game night' (like giant bomb's quicklooks, except not funny) for this that just went up, that shows a bit of all three single-player campaigns.

Yeah those guys were pretty annoying. Why would they think we want to spend half of the video watching them sit on their couch making inane observations.
